Guide Training - Ep.28 - Llama Life

Welcome back to Llama Life! Today Kirstin is training two new guides for the up coming season.
Kirstin introduces them to the herd, and then shows the guides in training how to catch pack llamas and then saddle them for the trail. After training, it is time for a tour of the llama ranch. It has been a busy birthing season, and right on cue, another llama baby is born during the tour. Just another day on the llama ranch!

At what age can you start altering a Llama? Also will they fit into a herd of sheep or cows to watch over by themselves or do they need another Llama to be with them? Thanks

As an aspiring farmer and current apprentice, I loved accidentally stumbling on your channel....and now I’ve marathoned most of your videos... llamas have interested me for a little while, but now I’m down right inspired. I’m loving learning visually through all the different topics discussed and shown on this channel. I think y’all are doing a great job! I can’t wait to see more and follow the farm journey, and who knows I may need some llama consulting when the time comes for my farm :)

What is the highest average weight the Ccaras safely pack? How far per day can you run a pack Llama?

Generally, our pack llamas carry 70-80 pounds each. Our llamas usually go 4-9 miles a day with a layover day every 2-3 days, although the occasional 12-15 mile day is not unusual.
