So 6 days in the hospital, surgery on my thumb joint to clean the bacteria out as they would have eaten away at the bones. Pet pigs are more common than you'd think! (Especially miniature breeds.) For varying definitions of "pet," too. Some rural families keep a pig around just to act as a sort of living garbage disposal for food scraps, and this pig is usually much more human-habituated than a pig raised solely for meat, so they're treated as an outdoor pet. Sometimes families whose kids are in 4H or a similar group end up with a pig being raised as part of a project and end up getting attached. Others actually house-train pigs and walk them on leashes with a harness -- they can be trained a lot like dogs, and I know I've seen some talk about using them as service animals!

There are actually quite a few vets who would work with a nervous pet like the one did in the clip, I was a vet nurse for a veterinary group that at the time had 5bdifferent surgeries and I went to them all depending who needed me and apart from one vet who was a older vet and treated the animals like they were a nuisance rather than a pet all the other vets (between 9/10 at any time as one vet used to sometimes work out of the area if needed) would sit and try to make the animal less nervous. The pet can be the sweetest pet ever yet take them anywhere near a vets they can become possessed, have seen it happen so many times lol, have seen dogs that would be happy to snuggle with one of us nurses or even the vet outside the clinic yet as soon as they got near it they become aggressive or would try to run away (these were always the challenging ones as no matter what you did they would look for blood). I respect human nurses and drs alot but also envied them at times, they had to learn about one species and their normal ranges of OBS, vet nurses have to know at least several different ones (most common ones are cat, dog, rabbit, hamster and guinea pig in the UK), unless you specialise in one species which few do unless it's equine.

Thank you so much for including us in veterinary medicine. I’ve been a registered veterinary technician for 12 years and it is a very intense job that I’m proud of. Side note, that angry kitty needs a gabapentin premed. The kitty is having a BAD experience and it will only compound if this continues until the cat is untouchable. If the gabapentin does not help then injectable sedation should be considered. Cat gloves are worthless (unless you’re working with chihuahuas). Use towels instead with a fear free technique. I did 4 years in a cat’s only specialty clinic. They are wonderful creatures.

Used to work as a vet tech night shift for emergencies only. Seen it all: hit by cars, poisoning, shot, set on fire, penis stuck in fence, abscesses, paraphimosis, neurological issues, attacked by predator, teeth stuck in dog crate, etc. One I will never forget though: a man brought in a hit by car cat as a "good samaritan." We ran the microchip. It was his fucking cat. He tried to kill it by hitting it with his car and then tried to get a "free euthanasia" by claiming he was a good samaritan. The cat did end up getting euthanized as there was too much damage to try and save it. I never wanted to smack a smirk off a person so bad in my life. Another one that haunts me to this day: a pitbull puppy (couldn't have been more than 4 months old) was hit by a car as a stray. We had it in isolation due to unknown vaccination status. We fixed his leg, but was told by animal control to euthanize it because they didn't have the space for it and as it was a pit bull and they had an extreme overabundance of them already at the shelter, they wouldn't take him. I remember dreading it but I had to restrain it for the vet. As the vet was administering the euthanasia, it blew, so the pup only got a partial dose and immediately went stiff. The vet hurried to complete the euthanasia, but that always stuck with me and still will bring me to tears over 21 years later. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR DAMN PETS, PEOPLE! ESPECIALLY BREEDS THAT DOMINATE THE SHELTERS LIKE PIT BULLS AND CHIHUAHUAS! We really don't need more of them for quite a long time. Our local shelter had no choice but to euthanize 40 cats and 20 dogs EVERY SINGLE DAY on average due to overcrowding. ... and then people wonder why I give backyard breeders/puppy mills such shit. They should be required to work at a shelter for a year before even thinking about breeding, particularly assist with all of the euthanasia cases. Believe me, ALL the animals know when they are going into "that room."

Have seen too many times where it didn't work the first time and/or they didn't know or care about a dose, so they just kept giving more and more until the H2O2 was a toxicity itself. USE WITH CAUTION(!!!) Low doses cause GI ulceration. Higher doses can cause significant gastric/esophageal bleeding and perforation. ACTUAL STEP 1 if you think your dog (cat, ferret, chicken, pig, parrot...) got into something toxic (at least the USA): CALL Pet Poison Helpline or ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. They will let you know if you need to see a doctor. Will also let you know if/how much hydrogen peroxide is warranted.

My uncle actually had a French Bulldog (male). He was white and had some brown spots, and just one of his nipples was black. So he tried getting it off with tweezers and lord knows what else. He brought his dog to our place to see if my mother could help and she was literally yelling at him. "That's one of his nipples you imbecile!" my mother but a bandage on it because thank god it doesn't come off that easy. It was sad though. My uncle felt guilty and the dog always kept an elongated nipple

5:07- husband probably said the dog got into some neighbors' laundry while outside. Now whether or not any of their neighbors dry their laundry on a clothesline is another matter.

Connery was a three year old intact Tom when he moved in on us. Even after the op he still used to mark anything and everything. I was on the p.c. one day when he jumped on the desk. There was a flash, a bang and a puff of foul smelling smoke and Connery was sitting there looking as innocent as only a guilty cat can. The only compensation was the look on the repairman’s face when I told him what happened.😂

People overestimate their pet's patience when ar the vet. I informed my vet that my lab is sweet, but he can be anxious and nervous, so be ready for that. They appreciated the fact that I acknowledged my dog's actual behavior instead of playing off a potentially nervous 90 lbs of pure muscle and anxiety.

Worked in the back rooms of a vet’s office for a while. Best story was a female Rottweiler coming in for foreign obstruction. It was her human’s thong. One of the technicians came in with the surgical towels for us to wash with said thong resting on top. Small with a G-string, white with heart patterns on it. We washed it with everything else and returned it to her.

I think you've found Nate's Halloween costume -- with Benson, he'd be an amazing pirate! You approach every animal you encounter with such joy and enthusiasm. I adore your approach to everything you do. You've helped me see an endearing side to animals that I may have been apprehensive of previously. Thanks for that.

I've used the hydrogen peroxide method when my husky puppy fur-brother, who I was a nanny for, swallowed a large scrunchy. He was not happy about having to vomit, but it was at least traumatic enough to keep him from eating another scrunchy!

Not a butt plug, but when we were observing this beautiful chocolate lab (with his equally beautifully masculine owner waiting anxiously in the waiting room) it indicated that it wanted to go out. I took him out back to do his business (fenced in yard for the dogs to go out in) and he crapped out 3 condoms. Boss got to tell the owner that the dog should feel better and what the issue was, but I had to stand there and try NOT to blush as he was talking. (I was all of 17 at the time and still innocent to the ways of the world.)

You say people are stupid to try to get their pet's nipples out. You should have met my cat: he did that too. He completely destroyed one nipple and damage another one. Apparently he stopped there. Maybe he noticed that hurt a little? He was such a stupid cat but so sweet. Never bit or scratched. Just cuddles, I miss him...

We had a family with 3 dogs who got into the bathroom garbage can. We made all three vomit in separate areas. The vet on shift was the sweetest person ever and very intelligent however a little naive. Two of the 3 yeah misc paper products. The 3rd well his contents were a little different. Several condoms and well the vet asked what is all that? At 54 I had to explain to the vet about condoms.

Yes, blood tests are taken if a pet is showing signs of intoxication and marijuana will show up. Marijuana can kill dogs, I'm not sure about cats' sensitivity to it. If your pet has gotten into illegal substances tell your vet because time is essential.

Talking about distraction a good way to give grandma her meds, I work in dementia care and we have one lady who wont let you put her pain patch on so its a two person job, one in the front distracting her and the other hides behind her and quickly takes the old one off and puts the new one on, doesnt work if she knows there's two of you!

Vet tech here. Soooo many things, but first of all, if the cat is that scared (the last video) ABORT and schedule another visit with some gabapentin on board please. One of my favorite questions when going over post-op care with owners after tooth extraction is "so when will it grow back?" Another story that I will never forget, told by a former colleague when she had just startet out as a vet. She had a patient in for a wellness exam and some blood tests due to age. The owner was an older woman who mostly spoke about her own medical history, rather than the cat. In the middle of the exam, she asks the vet if it's okay she takes her medication, as they are due now. My colleague said of course. The poor woman proceeded to PULL DOWN HER PANTS to insert a depot tablet up her rectum. The poor vet had no idea what to do and just had to turn around. They finished the exam, the cat did great, but my colleague is forever traumatized 🤣
