I'm debt free and I drive a 2020 Tundra with leather seats. My house is paid for and I live on $17k per year and I have investments in the stock market. I haven't had a job working for anyone in over 30 years and I'm not working at all now. I haven't worked since I was 52 and I'm 57 now. Your boots analogy reminded me of Terry Pratchett’s Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness ❤ “The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness”

I know only a couple of truly frugal people like me. We believe that frugality and sustainable living go hand in hand and provide financial freedom over the long term. My family and I have really nice things, but most are either found on the curb, second hand, gifts from friends and family when they no longer need something. I find it increasingly difficult to listen to the complaints about lack money and how hard it is to get by, when the same person is not willing to make any major changes. We live in such an abundant world! If we could just see beyond the consumerism and value the gifts we have been given. Bottom line: frugality = freedom. You are showing one way and I practise frugality in my own big city way. Both are choices and others can make, too.

As my grandparents and parents used to say, "Different Strokes for Different Folks". We all are different in some way and have different values and beliefs but that is fine. We should value our differences and try to learn from each other. Yeah, we might decide we don't want to be vegan and that's okay and it's okay for some folks to be vegan or vegetarian. Some folks might have diet restrictions, so they have to eat a certain way due to health reasons. In my opinion, frugal doesn't mean "cheap". It means being intentional about spending and consuming so that we aren't struggling to pay our basic expenses and not getting deep in debt.

Oh wow. Lower income, and low net worth are two very different things. I think it is wonderful that your family has such a high quality of life on a low income. My hubby and I have a combined income in the 50k range. I guess that would be considered lower for a family of 3 by some people. However, our net worth puts us in a totally different income bracket from many of our co-workers. I recently purchased a used luxury vehicle( paid for in full) and personally witnessed my co-workers reactions to me and the vehicle. One lady even said I must be rich. Funny, I am the same person I was the week before with the same job. Sadly some folks place a lot of judgement on others based on the small glimpses of other's lives that they see. I'm a mom to 8 . 7 years ago , on one low income we purchased by loan a 25k ,15 passenger van with 16k miles. I worked only part time as a nurse but was able to double payments and pay large sums to pay it off quickly. We have always driven lousy vans that broke constantly and I wanted a reliable vehicle for my kids and didnt want to waste money and experience stress . We .afe a great decision in getting the van. Thank you for your videos they are very helpful . Some people are just always cranky and unkind .❤

I know you did a video a few weeks ago about ways to make money with your homestead. My brother pays a man $80.00 a month to park his new 5th wheel camper on his property because my brother's driveway is not long enough for his cars, truck and RV. So that might be another way you could make a little more money monthly.

You go girl! I just found your channel. I live frugally. I am retired (66yo) single woman (so on a fixed income), have a big garden so I can/freeze/dehydrate. My car is 14 yo Rav 4. It has gone over 300,000 km. It is now toast- I went and bought another Rav4, with cash. I put aside 500$/mo in a 'car fund'. BTW I live in Ontario. I do qualify for senior dental care which is great, but I know that I don't want dentures when I get older. Believe it or not, your teeth as you age will have to be re-done: all of the dental work you had when you were young redone when you are older. Teeth aren't forever. So now I'm putting aside 333$/mo in case I need dental implants ($5000/tooth). Dentures are covered by the province/implants are not. I shop at Costco. How do I afford membership? Costco gives you 2 cards: give your second card to a family member who also is feeding a family. The total sum between yourself and the other person will give you a rebate cheque at the end of the year that will pay for the membership and then some! I spend $200/person for food (this is good for Ontario), but if I pay everything I spend with my credit card, I earn points and then if I'm missing something, these extra items come from the points: aka free. I never eat out, but I can cook. Tonight I made rice paper wrapped asian vegan rolls with dipping sauce. I feel like it was better than what I'd get at a restaurant. I might be tight, but my quality of life is high.

It’s your money, glad you’re spending it how YOU want to. Lol anyone who is angry about how you use your money (tools) is unhinged. They’re mad that they spend $8 on Starbucks a day and don’t have the restraint to save up and buy bigger things they want. I appreciate your video and respect you willing to read out disparaging comments. I’ll keep watching you, you’re authentic, non reactionary and honest. Keep it up!

A whole lot of people absolutely do not understand that being frugal does not mean the person living below their means shouldn't be making quality purchases. Probably many people associate frugal living as living miserably. I had someone question my frugal living and I had to explain its not about denying myself anything - but a way to make sure my money was being spent on things I really wanted and not wasted on thoughtless purchases. When I do things like cutting my own hair, working on my ageing cars I'm not hardship living - instead the money I don't spend on those thing can go to something I really like: annual summer road trip vacations that include staying in nice hotels and other travel expenses without any worries if I can afford it.

If you are frugal, you save up for what you want or needs and then buy it. Plus if you are smart you have an emergency savings.

I love ❤your videos cus I live a similar life. I wanted to change my life and live a more simple and frugal life. I agree that once you change your mind set it is easier to be intentional about spending. You can have nice quality things if you budge. Some people will never understand this. Keep doing your videos I have learned new things and I bought the planner you recommended and it has helped us even more in our budgeting ❤❤ best wishes for you and your family

I have a nice beautiful car with amazing seats that are like burkin bag material with snake skin esque crocodile inlays & trayed raised lettering & etc. It was a custom order BMW. & I didn't order it. Or pay for it. The original owner who IS wealthy did. We just bought it for $17k once she was done with it. & after tax title license, $20k, all in. Car pmt is less than $350 monthly & we're about to pay it off in full later this year. So it'll be a paid off car & still lookin pretty for many years to come. -Oh & our beater car is Land Rover Range Rover 🤣 With 270,000 miles on it baby!! & let's not talk about the sports cars we have as back up 😂 They lookin rough, but they're paid for, as long as the day is long, so we don't give 1 damn. We are planning on selling the motorycle though, for easy $.
