I'm in Australia and I've been selling on eBay for the last 7 years. I sell second hand goods like clothing, books, shoes and other random items. I source mainly from Thrift Stores, but also from Facebook groups and from junk piles on the side of the road. During Covid I built this up to replace my full-time income (AU$70,000) which disappeared when my job dissolved due to lockdowns. I am back working again, but only casually, as my eBay sales bring in enough income that I have no need (or desire) to return to a full time job.

Hey! Iv got the same/similar story! During covid I raked it up in EBay profits and I’m still at it! I work seasonally for fun jobs now and I’m sewing, slow stitching upcycled clothing to open an Etsy and sell at farmers markets.
@gelflingfay2 күн бұрын
How do you figure out shipping? That's my one issue.
@ResellingQueenКүн бұрын
@@gelflingfay I'm not sure where you are located, but here is Australia we have one main postage provider, Australia Post, which has a Business Account option called MyPost Business which offers discounted shipping depending on the volume of parcels you send. I buy all my postage labels online through my account and use their flat-rate post bags which come in 3 different sizes and can hold up to 5kg for a flat-rate fee, same price to anywhere in Australia. (i don't post internationally, but they do have that option too). It's actually quite easy, and the more I sell the bigger the discount I receive. Everything I sell fits into one of these bags and I have my postage pre-set in all my listings to reflect the size bag required.

Although im not quite sure if it is still covered since i switched company’s couple years back. So far I’ve only had one incident where something was broken and i replaced it myself. It cost no more than 10 dollars. I guess i was lucky 🍀 of course once i expand even further ill have to take care of that so if anything happens wont break the bank!

I am currently not doing any since moving to Texas 2 years ago and I'm retired. But while in CA, I did many side hauls: babysitting, pet sitting, accounting & organizing home & office paperwork while living in CA for the last 20 years. I also had a Traveling Tea Party business that died during Covid-19.

Please remember that many of the gig jobs like Door Dash and Amazon Flex are 1099 jobs, so you are responsible for both the employer and employee share of SS and Medicare tax and also need to set aside money from for income taxes. basically set aside 50%. Then there is the cost of gas and wear and tear on your car. It is not just money in the pocket, especailly if subject to the single tax. My auto insurance company requires side hustle to be reported and part of your auto insurance package, leading to higher rates. If I were to be in an accident and not have this as part of my coverage, the accident while doing gig work would not be covered.

I have been doing eBay sales for a while now here in the US. And I can say that it is a very painfully slow process. I have talked with several others and the only one who seems to be actually making anything even close to usable income is a woman who is actually teaching others how to sell on eBay and how to set up their eBay sales accounts. It also requires you to keep all of those things that you would really like to get rid of so you’ll have to have space to store the stuff that you’re trying to downsize. The income that you make from eBay sales is also taxable and reported to the IRS so there is some bookkeeping involved as well. I don’t want to discourage anyone from trying it because if you have hot ticket items, it can be a money maker, however, people need to know that it’s not quite as easy as it looks.

This is good for people to know about. I thought I should add that there are many of us (like me), who sadly, for no reason whatsoever, have our accounts closed down with no notice or explanation whatsoever. I created a new account, listed a few music dvds to start out (was going to also sell some clothing), and within hours of creating my account, it was shut down. Multiple emails with them resulted in no answers, just that they couldn't give me a reason why. I found many others online with the same experience. So unfair, and incredibly frustrating.

I did Amazon Flex until I evidently delivered to an off duty cop's residence. He was pulling into the driveway as I was taking a picture of the package, about to walk back to my car. He proceeded to corner me and start accusing me of stealing the package. I reported the inappropriate behavior to Amazon.. Amazon didn't care that my safety was compromised.
