oh Jane, you work miracles for me. I love your work and you help to ground me. This month I had big tragedies...my mom passed away and a few weeks later my brother died. I was a mess and could not get it together as you can imagine. I cried so much I actually hurt. My doctor gave me sleeping pills....bla bla...but my days were full of sadness and gloom. I finally picked up my paint brush and clicked on one of your past lessons(meditative Koi fish) and instant calm came over me. Thanks...I know things will calm eventually but what a nice way to find some peace. You are much better than medication. LOL.

@@PaintingwithJane Thank you and the other kind replies. Life has a way of throwing curves at you and "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" right. It will hurt forever but having something soothing to get you thru is so very nice. Thank you, I have a feeling I will have many canvases around for the next while. I definitely recommend painting as a healthier therapy than some other techniques of coping.

You are so calming. When ever I have a panic attack, all I have to do is put on your videos, and it's like I forget what I was panicking about That being said, you mentioned something about a "warm blue". What makes a color warm, and what makes a color cool? I can't wrap my head around it.
@unashamedaccompanist5 жыл бұрын
Warm colors often remind us of heat (red yellow orange) and cool colors of ice (blue, green purple). That can be deceptively simple, most colors have a cool side and a warm side. Red is generally warm, but magenta is a 'cool red' Blue is generally cool, but ultramarine is a 'warm blue'. If you look at a color wheel (and there are many videos etc. on youtube) you can start to get an idea. Hope this helps :)

@PaintingwithJane5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Do you mean the medium you add to the water? As far as I know, that's just a way to break surface tension. It doesn't dilute the paint, add transparency, or change the drying time. Unless I'm thinking of a totally different medium!

Dear Jane! 👩🎨 Since I’ve gotten into painting and buying more paints/colors, I have a question that I would love for you to answer or make a short video about; Ok: Pthalo blue..... ahhhh yes, beautiful color, but now all of a sudden I’m coming across “Pthalo Blue” with variations of: blue, green, red, yellow shades.....????? Oh my gosh..... I feel like I did on the very first day of my painting adventure....... BAFFLED....... Please EXPLAIN the difference, or at least direct me to one of your videos on Pthalo mysteries....!!! (Which maybe I missed watching and getting educated 😬) 💚💙Thank you!💙💚
@PaintingwithJane5 жыл бұрын
Katherine, that's an excellent question! Yes, phthalo comes in more than 1 shade. I've seen red and green. Ultramarine also comes in red and green shades. Basically, this means the color bias is different. I always us phthalo blue in green shade and ultramarine in red shade. Those are the standard bias colors most people use. Simply speaking, think of it this way; the bias is like adding a tiny drop of that color. So a red bias blue has a tiny drop of red in it. A green bias blue has a tiny drop of yellow (or green, semantics, really) in it. Either bias will have an impact on color mixing. It can make your head spin at first, but you get the hang of it pretty quick if it's something you pay attention to :) I do have a video where I talk about bias as it relates to color theory. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIW7omyGeZhopck Also, this month in my Patreon group, we're digging deep into some color theory and color mixing. It's been a ton of fun! If you're interested in checking that out, we'd love to have you! www.patreon.com/paintingwithjane Thanks for the great question!!
@kasialeparska24805 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jane for replying so quickly! I was looking at the color wheel video that you have posted, along with the self made color chart also! I knew I should’ve looked at it and actually mix the colors and do it! (Duh). 😀 I definitely will.! I’m thinking now, that the Blue Pthalo with different shades, probably will make a difference when you mix it with other colors, and the shade is giving you an idea which direction the newly mixed color will go.... I get it! 💡🤓 Thank you, and I will get on with looking at the color mixing videos, and practice, and paint, and practice and paint......!!!! Your work is beautiful Jane, 💝 thank you!!!!
