Question. Why are Florida fossils so young? You said 25 to 30 million years old? I live in the Southwest United States and near the beginning of the Rocky mountains which I believe is the oldest mountain range in the country. However, our marine fossils are 400-350 mya. I know this area was under the great inland Sea from a zillion years ago. So why the discrepancy in age?

So Florida is extremely young geologically speaking. It only very recently became a land mass starting with some small islands and such around the Eocene. So all the older sediments are just too deep to be exposed near the surface. A drill core in north Florida that went around 3,000 feet deep uncovered a partial trilobite!

Sorry, fossil hunting is about far more than just fossils. Each day spent outdoors is a story, with the goofy shenanigans and all. We are simply being ourselves, and we don't worry whether anyone thinks it's funny or not. It's who we are, so we choose to show it because we're not trying to please everybody or sacrifice our authenticity. It's fine if you have to "fast forward" a lot. We understand having fun doesn't appeal to everybody!
