John Formstone Hi John thank you for subscribing. It sure is great fun. I’m onto my 3rd trap since making this. Two standard DSLR traps and one IR trap. A few mods have been made since with additional power packs for the flash guns. Just waiting on some dryer weather to get them back out. You on Instagram at all?

Great job. Very informative video. Can You write how You painted the box? Looks very good.

Adam C Thank you Adam. It was quite simple. I painted the case with Grey Primer to start with, I then done two coats of Tan as a base colour. Then using twigs I positioned them over the case at various angles and sprayed a light coat of Brown, when removing twigs it reveals the colour underneath. Then using a dark green I done the same thing as the Twigs but used fern tree leaves and sprayed lightly over the leaves which then gives this effect. I then sprayed a couple of coats of clear to protect it

Sadly they don’t last long enough. I can get about 3 days out of them if I use my battery pack system. If set to go to sleep they last even longer

Awesome info! Question: my nighttime photos came out OOF. My guess is that the camera couldn't focus well during the brief time when the flash went off. The camera was in battery saving mode when the motion sensor was triggered by wild animals. The camera woke up and then tried to focus, giving me OOF pictures. I wonder what the trick is to get in-focus photos. I guess adding a light source helps the camera focus; however, this is not doable when I set up camtrap in the field. Thank you if you can help!!!

It sounds to me like you are using Auto Focus. If this is the case then your images will be out of focus. If you set your lens to Manual Focus. An Aputure of F8 which is usually infinity focus on most lenses. Set your camera trap up where you want your subject to be. Get a stick set it in the frame where you want your animal and manually focus on this. Remove once happen with the focus point and leave as is in Manual. Never use a camera trap in Auto and Auto focus always adjust everything in manual. It is all trial and error. I have found the following works well for night time images. 1/250 shutter F8 Aputure 500/640 ISO 2x flashes, one set to around 1/64 and another around 1/32 with a distance from the subject around 3/4 metres

James Hopkinson Hi James Thank you for your message. Yes unfortunately it is only programmed to take one shot per trigger. It will take a shot every 7 seconds

liammedwards I thought it did one of my speed lights when in sleep mode needs the first shot to wake up I'll have to get another one that fires from sleep mode

James Hopkinson you need to go into the flash gun settings and turn of power save mode. Be prepared for the batteries to drain quickly I’ve not modified my Flash guns yet to accept more batteries but mine only last 12hrs on continuous. If you want to know how to do it I can run it through with you

liammedwards where I am planning to put my camera trap is in some woodland on a caravan site which is 75 miles from where I live at the moment due to commitments I can only go one weekend in two so I need a way for the flash guns to last a long time I don't know how long a flash will last that has been modified

Hi Liam, great first video really enjoyed it. A couple of questions: Firstly I bought the box you suggested from CPC and the camera with lens doesn’t fit, does your lens protrude out of the box into the drainage tube? How did you fit the filter into the tube? Finally how did you fit the hood to the tube and where did you get this from? Appreciate any feedback Thanks

Hi Brent the Single battery in my IR Trigger can last upto 2 years. It’s been in regular use for a year now and still going strong

Thank you Tom, Yes by mistake on export i reduced the volume and didnt realise until someone had pointed it out after watching it so i left it up in the end. I have Sennheiser Wireless Lav Mics my next one will have far better audio :) I am lucky i have access to all the kit as i work in the camera industry. Far to much kit purchased over the years.
