@bobrutan4735 Жыл бұрын
I am just starting with LR so the next couple questions might be dumb to most. When you sent the photo to topaz, you did it as a jpeg at 72dpi. When you went back to LR, was the noise also removed from the raw file? You now have 2 files in LR instead of 1? What if you wanted to print a high res photo at 300dpi with all your noise removal and healing - would you need to somehow combine the two photos or edit another version and save as a tiff? The file management of LR is still a bit confusing to me. thanks
@adam197919792 жыл бұрын
Your workflow is almost the same as mine (although your pics are much better!!). Only critisism I have with this one is you needed to brush the background layer inbetween the legs of the Kestrel. Other than that it's a stunning shot. One of my nemesis birds!! Would love to see more videos like this one going in to a bit more detail about removing unwanted things from the background. Keep up the great work.
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, thanks very much indeed for watching and taking the time to comment, totally agree with the legs, a bit rushed as I’d usually do a bit more fine touching but just to get the basic idea. Great to hear we’ve the similar workflow. I’ll look into doing one in the NY. All the best and have a great Christmas and NY. Cheers Rich 👍

Nice and easy to follow Richard, I don't get a lot of time to take the photographs let alone edit them. So, like yourself (& most photographers I guess) I try & get the images right in camera so as they need little or no editing afterwards. Interesting that you limit the file size for social media & not the pixel sizes (WxH) as I understand it's this that determines whether the social media platforms compress your image or not & compromise the image quality? Or maybe I'm wrong.... I'd certainly be I interested in a more in depth editing vlog from you, be it here or to us Patroen members exclusively. A lovely Kestrel image from the outset, improved with a few tweaks. Nice mate! Keep on keeping on. Best, Nick
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, thanks for checking in on the vlog. So important for me to at least get most of it right in camera, lol... I limit the file size around that as standard and crop for social media where necessary, I'm not overly bothered about making it great for social media as most platforms apart from Flickr destroy your pictures anyway so don't want to waste more precious time faffing around with them. Thanks, great you want to see more and I aim on doing that for Patreon, although I didn't get much feedback or watches through Patreon on the editing video so not sure if it works for all. Will do a poll and see what's best. Cheers Rich 👍

How far can you go with editing before the image ceases to be the original photo.Especially when entering competitions?
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thats a great question and one which I do feel quite strongly about. The way in which I edit my images is I follow the strict guidelines of the photographic competition rules. Minimal image manipulation, minor touch ups which don't include removing and adding elements to an image! ( Dust spot etc are acceptable) Example, removing branches, adding different backgrounds etc, for me that's totally against the point in doing what we do and is very unreal! I've have only ever removed minor marks and the occasional thing for social media only. I like to get in right in camera first and foremost, and only carry out minimal time in front of the computer. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. Richard 👍

Great video Richard, have one question about your work flow. Is there any reason why you don’t use topaz RAW deNoise? Is it not meant to perform better when working with a RAW image
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua, when I export the RAW CR2 file into Topaz I am given the option of JPEG/PSD or TIFF and don't get the option. I didn't realise there was another option, I shall investigate, thanks for the tip. Cheers Rich 👍
@joshualoney89002 жыл бұрын
@@RichardBirchett The trouble is with using RAW files in topaz, you can’t go through the topaz plugin for Lightroom. It has to be done manually as like you said, Lightroom won’t allow you to export a RAW file to topaz directly. I’m debating currently whether the ease of using topaz via the plugins outweighs the improved de noise quality when dealing with the extra complications when using RAW files
@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын

@RichardBirchett2 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, I usually save them as cropped JPEG's around 1.5/2 MB's in size for social media. I've tried stacking multiple pictures for a Barn Owl in flight and it worked quite well. Didn't take long to process. Cheers Rich 👍
