As always...the best youtube presentation about photography and videography. No more talk about gear, sit in the office or in front of a computer. We are there with you and I love this way. Your generous technical info are also so appreciated. You are simply the BEST ! Thanks to all the team and Doug....BRAVO !

Loved the warbler and owl sequences. Can I suggest that when sharing the song of these beautiful birds (and for that all the other awesome animals you film) could you silence the backing track? I found it competing with the footage. All best David - Blue Mountains, Australia

Doug, is that a _BARRED_ owl or a _BARN_ owl - I'm South African and can't quite make it out through your (very attractive!) accent.

@Sue Collins Just in case he doesn't reply, that is a Barred Owl.

@@vonnyrotten Hi Vonny - thanks a gazillion for taking the time and trouble! I saw on another channel the same bird and I also heard 'barn' owl but the guy told me 'barred'. Are you also a totally mad, crazy, insane, illogical, unreasonable, incoherent _boring_ bird maniac and photographer. Me too.

Interesting that you are using manual autofocus. How does that work on such a long lens? I tried it briefly but it’s not even close with autofocus
@suecollins32465 жыл бұрын
Yeah - I can't cut it with manual focus either. Too slow for a start.
@patricksmith25535 жыл бұрын
@@@suecollins3246 It's possible the autofocus motor on this lens went out and he either bought it very cheap used or can't afford the repair. It's also possible he is just using manual override for minor focus adjustments, which I do do at times with my 400mm 2.8 VR. I prefer to just keep my lens focus limiter set to 6m-infinity, or whatever the Canon is. Focus limiters allow for almost instant and precise autofocus and I can't imagine this guy is actually fully manual focusing. Also sometimes it's quicker to manual override a long lens for a small adjustment, than say trying to change the focus point from the left to right. However I use focus-wrap and the joystick 99% of the time, but if your good at manual focus and have good eyesight than it is sometimes quicker. One way to improve your manual focusing is to remember its distance and know your lens and which way is closer and which is farther and judge the distance quickly and have it in the back of your head.

Doug was shooting wildlife before autofocus. He mentions in a previous episode that he sometimes out of habit goes to manual focus or doesnt trust autofocus sometimes.....dont remember exactly what he said. For birds in flight he uses autofocus.

the little birds were not that "fortunate" i think those awls were after their chicks/eggs, based on the way they were attacking... great video...!!!

Those birds that you call Anhinga - in South Africa we call them African Darters - Anhinga rufa.

@@douggardner1 That's the exact boat I'm looking for. Would like to buy and old one and put a new yam 50 pt&t on it. Lifelong hunter and I'm just getting into photography pretty seriously as a hobby. Would like to use this boat to get in places my 24' bay boat can't. Thanks
