Excellent review. I love these technical books. All about the nuts and bolts of producing great art. Added it to my list over at Amazon. I've been a fan of Gurney's work for quite a while too. And I've been a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, and space art ever since I was a kid in grade school. Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, Daryl K. Sweet, and Ron Miller are among the artists who've inspired me through the years. Boris Vallejo's work is what inspired me to paint in transparent glazes in oils.

This is not really that imaginative of realism. This is the main problem with art, people simply revert to plain realism or abstract/cartoonized, and nothing unique to reality ever gets created. The trees, the building, the flatness, the lack of creative swapping, these pictures look more like reality than imagination.

Disagreed. But I get parts of your point, bobby chiu might be more you alley.

Look at the right page on 4:58 and tell me that’s just reality

At what point do you cross the line from imaginative realism to surrealism? (Response to a 3 year old comment)
