Stephen de Vera is one of those wonderful surprises which occasionally turn up on KZbin. Considering that he has made these professional quality videos without any assistance from a huge supporting camera, sound expert and a myriad of technical assistance which accompany countryside and wildlife videos seen on mainstream media, he must have had a lot of patience and put in a lot of. Hard work of his own, to make such fascinating and fascinating and detailed documentaries. I look forward to more of them.

It was a lot of work for sure and for little financial gain but the reward is in the satisfaction of doing something I feel needs reiterating: if mankind is ever going to end it's war on the environment the solution starts at home and not in watching glossy big budget documentaries filmed in faraway locations. Thank you for your feedback.

@@WildlifeInCloseUpI totally agree with what you've said, and with the compliments on your beautiful work. I'm from Pennsylvania, US, and love to photograph local flora and fauna, which rarely get their own documentaries. Magical, you're gifted to get these shots! I live off grid in Brittany and am constantly out and about and can count on one hand some exceptional encounters. I've been sitting in a hedge with a fox half a metre next to me grubbing his ears moved when I swallowed, it was late evening but not yet dusk. I returned the next evening with a friend to enable me to endorse this encounter, the fox returned along the hedgerow and slowly passed in front of us within a metre. Like the first night we were just sitting in the hedge no growth in front of us. I'm also lucky enough to have a kingfisher nest in the bank on the stream 30m from my dwelling and for three years now I've watched them coming and going. They have been here for a couple of weeks now so hopefully the fourth year for me to catch daily sightings of them. I also believe they have accepted my presence. Ideal for filming!!!

Stunning! Thank you! I have sometimes thought about the relative merits of wildlife here and in other countries. I spent the early 25 years of my life in the Peak District and was fortunate to have many acres of land to explore. The variety of incredible wildlife there - and further afield in the hidden valleys and dales that tourists don't find - was exceptional. The silent flight of the barn owl at dusk for me matches any gaudy parrot screeching in a jungle; the joy of spying on the fox about his prowl beats any lion on the savannah. And the sight of two hares boxing is for me equal to any kangaroos doing the same! I would venture to suggest that your film proves these points admirably! I wish I had been able to film some of the amazing things I saw in those days...

Thank you for this lovely reminder of the natural richness still available (just) in our British countryside. Over my 70+ years Ive been lucky enough to have seen all of the species you featured, other than the muntjac. But how much more scarce many of them have become! I was reminded of this hearing the yellowhammer in the soundtrack - I have never seen one in the six years I have lived and explored in Cornwall. Your sensitivity to the wild creatures and acute observations make this very special - as though one were almost having these intimate experiences oneself. So often such encounters are happenstance, but all the more precious for that.
@WildlifeInCloseUp Жыл бұрын
I don't see yellowhammers nearly as much now, compared to when I made this film but they do still pop up in a few places - the last one I saw in the Hebrides. There was a short BBC nature series years ago called "Being There" which was at the back of mind while making this. Thanks for commenting.

Or, infernal, SIN soaked ugliness, that expects wildlife to drink and eat ones sewer, litteraly speaking so, and expects them to live in a highest level of visually degraded country side, considering, what it ones was and what to a fox, a bird and to British wildlife it always going to be. If anyone doesn't see that, only goes to show people's intellectual and moral inferiority.
