"Trust the science" became the mantra during the pandemic - but now it seems we're living in an age where the likes of Terrence Howard and Candace Owens are trying to debunk it.
Actor Howard recently raised eyebrows when he appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast, claiming he can kill gravity and doesn't believe in the number zero among other outlandish theories.
Piers Morgan speaks to mathematician and physicist Eric Weinstein - who was invited by Rogan to challenge Terrence's theories - before the pair are joined by cosmologist Professor Brian Keating and KZbinr Tom Bilyeu.
00:00 - Introduction
04:11 - Eric Weinstein on Terrence Howard
08:09 - Neil DeGrasse Tyson's criticism
13:12- Was Eric right to engage with Howard?
22:12 - Do we trust science anymore?
25:40 - Professor Keating calls Eric out
34:50 - Tom Bilyeu - we live in the 'age of conspiracy'
37:47 - Candace Owens on the 'cult of science'
46:09 - Can Elon Musk save science?

Not suggesting Howard is onto anything (I don’t know) but to think that because someone hasn’t gone through the typical institutions to learn about a subject instantly means it is impossible to have anything significant to add to that subject shows just how fragile and insecure Professor Keating is. name three instances where such a person did just that. it's not an insecurity it's incredulity and justifiably so. To say to someone who has devoted their life to their profession which requires continual study, a requirement to publish your work and have it challenged by all your peers, that they shouldnt be dismissive of the opinion of someone 'self taught'. Next time you need surgery and a musician with a passion for anatomy and biology walks into the operating theatre and offers their ideas about the procedure you're about to have you will presumably be comfortable having your surgeon entertain those opinions?

The issue is wanting to engage in science on an academic level when you lack the knowledge or expertise in the field to lay basis for your scientific arguments/claims. Now let’s say you could, you don’t go into research for the sole purpose of arguing or stating opinions, you have scientific frameworks that you follow, you have questions that your research aims to answer, maybe past studies have failed to answer those questions or address some problem but you’re research is successful and you have to argue why that’s the case with evidence. Science isnt about being right or appeasing to peoples egos. Science is only as good as the people who contribute to it.

I lost all my respect for Neil when he got woke, he basically said gender is a spectrum, what a clown. At least Terrence is being bold to breakthrough the limits of science. Isaac Newton was bold, Einstein was bold. Neil is just a clown who repeats whatever some "Expert" says.

People need to stop calling every crazy, extreme wing thought "woke", just because they only have so many characters to say whatever and it's conveniently one syllable and 4 letters. If woke itself could speak, it would be cussing out everybody. Find another word already🙄😸

The 'peer review' disagreement between Eric and Brian amused me. They clearly just had different definitions of what a peer review was. Eric even said that before the 60s and/or 70s, there was no peer review in the 'modern sense'. Brian took the position that the purpose and benefit of what Eric calls peer review was satisfied by a marginally different process.
