@@madametrafficjam8347 I don't mind people who are living a frugal life are earning a lot more than they want to spend. The best economical buffer is to have so much money that can live for 6 months without any income. Note: Very frugal, not luxuriously. There may be a time where one really need money. It could e.g. be to become unemployed and then get a job some time later. Another *very* unpleasant one is you managed to get out out of your burning house alive, but what are you going to do next.

Some thoughts: first off, you have beautiful hair and your new haircut is adorable! I get what you are saying about higher taxes vs. how many services benefit us, but in the last few years, I’ve come to look at that differently. My taxes are paying for benefits that I don’t receive, but the idea that as a community, we can all have enough food, safe shelter, access to health care and the ability to get an education or training, benefits all of us, by hopefully, reducing crime, mental illness and all the problems that arise from chronic poverty. I realize that no country in the world is doing this perfectly, but many countries are trying harder to make it a goal to ensure their citizens have basic needs met. I never used to look at it this way, but I’ve come to see that I feel better, thinking that we, as developed societies, are trying to make life less desperate for those who have true needs. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos immensely. 🌿

I think one fact a lot of people forget is that anyone can end up unemployed, sick or homeless if enough bad things happen. I'd rather pay for others (which I can only do when I'm better off myself) than not being able to receive any help myself should I ever need it. It's funny how many people seem to forget that the government doesn't just magically have money to pay for roads, hospitals, schools etc., if you want great infrastructure you need to help pay for it.

You can plug all holes and fill it with argon (a noble gas), it's heavier than air to it will sink to lowest void it can't get out of. Insects will of course die if they don't get oxygen, so that could be a good way of killing every one of them without using insecticides (poison against insects). You would need to plug all holes. A pine tar, cement, and 7% water mix is good for doing that. It becomes a ceramic once it had solidified. You you can easily chip it off, if you later want to plug it using something else.

In the first place I (a single woman in Switzerland in a similar situation of life like you) also planned to buy and renovate an inexpensive Swedish house in the woods (and do lots of Nordic-Ice-Skating in the Winter :) but now I fell in love with the idea of building a cool tiny-house on a ponton-float in Sweden- with no experience - by myself. :) Courage is the first step, right? All following steps for a project will come by themself and you can process them one by the other. :)
@Lupupu2 жыл бұрын
Just do some research on how the pontoon floats will survive the Winter and the water freezing (and the weight of the snow on the house). The water by our Summer cottage freezes every Winter (in Finland) and we have to drag the dock on land before Winter every year. There are some pontoons that can withstand the ice, but most people have to take their docks out of the water before Winter. The ice is very powerful and it can break many things, and even move big rocks under the water.

I will search for good, frost save models of pontoons - and will enjoy all the frozen lakes, to hop on my ice skates after coffee on my little terrace in the morning. I opt for a spot at a (not too fancy and pricy) Marina outside Stockholm where my tiny house boat could stay during the whole year long. Or easily swim-drive somewhere else. ;)

Hi Rosie, excellent videos. It could be worth checking with your electricity provider if it's possible to downgrade your supply. I live in Jämtland and work as an electrician and I'm often doing it for people. The avgift that you pay for your supply here is very expensive and downgrading can save you thousands a year. It's a very simple thing to do aswell, it just means changing your main fuses for smaller ones. The way you live, I should think you could easily be on a small supply.
@wildrosie2 жыл бұрын
Hi - thanks for the tip! Electricity confuses me haha. Does that mean going down in voltage?? I only have 6 and 10A in my fuse box right now...
@deanozx62 жыл бұрын
No the voltage stays the same, it basically means the size of your main fuses. The main fuses will be located wherever your electricity meter is. From what you've said though, it does sound like you may already have a smaller supply. Probably easiest to phone your electricity supplier and see what size you are paying for and if it's possible to downgrade it.

Learning from KZbin, things that fits with my style and goals. The beauty of that is being able to make revenues from home as freelancer. I sell digitals on Etsy for junk journals (a bit like scrapbooking) and I count on that to get some revenues. When we have no depts, it is totally viable as lifestyle. The worst that can happen is to have to find a local job for few hours per week. I work tons of hours every day but it doesn’t feel like working like when I used to work in the IT industry. My brain doesn’t see it like a work ... my happiness and freedom feeling has never been that high! I don’t regret the move and I guess you feel the same for now. The first 2-3 years will definitively be the worst as we need to build or repair lots of things (buying equipment for the animals in my case) so, it is hard on the budget and energy but then, what a quality of life there will be! I am already happy with this lifestyle so ... it will just be better and better! :)

What people who did not make a move like you did often miss, is that once you change your way of living and your surroundings so drastically, spending less does actually not feel like a big deal, it does not feel like a major sacrifice. There are so many other things you can enjoy in a close-to-nature environment while some negative factors from your former urban and social environment disappear. A lot of luxury consumption in the western world is just compensation for fundamental flaws in how we treat our bodies and souls in our "modern" lifestyle. Of course you still spend money, but you spend it more on practical things such as building materials and functional clothing that will keep you warm and last. My spending patterns have turned upside down since I moved to northern Sweden 7 years ago, and it feels great :-)

These days however, having a deeper realization that my home is where my heart is, I started seriously considering a bus to make a conversion and instead of looking for a house in all the different countires, I can always take my home with me. Thank you very much for sharing all that info :) I especially enjoyed the financial parts of it, and comparing the costs here and there. I don't have anybody here that I can compare similar situations with. I started out with my house spending all and everything of my money (which was very small sum) on a mortgage. I had decided to spend almost everything in income from my employment every month in addition to my monthly mortgage, in order to buy my self free. The first thing I did was to remove any radiators in the whole house that were not absolutely necessary. That meant a cold kitchen, for one thing. Doing all my laundry by hand all year 'round, not spending anything in excess. I was absolutely dependent on having a car, though to take me to and from work, about 120 km per day. I also have 3.5 km of gravel road, out to the main road where there is a limited bus service. But going by bus with all the connections, was totally ruled out. I would have not had enough hrs in a day to do that. Adding the need of bringing in building materials, groceries, getting enough hrs for sleep while working overtime, etc... would have only brought miseries. I did all repairs and maintenance on the car, that I was able to by myself, and all the construction work on the house, as well. Since the house was not finished when I bought it. It was built as a summer house, just like yours. But I did have 2-glazed leaky windows with moving curtains on windy days. My real worry was hoping the job lasted long enough to do the final down payment on that mortgage. When that day came it was a huge relief. And the job situation was going gradually worse as we tried to hang onto the business we were doing. And it did go out of business shortly after. But all the pierces fell more or less exactly into place, and I was a free man. Relatively, anyway. I have also lived in other countries before this. Such as Canada, the US, and Norway in big cities. One of them was NYC

Some years ago (before Brexit), in Europe there was a big trend, started off by British expats but followed up by many people from other countries and nationalities. They set up a l.t.d. company in the U.K. and thus paid (maybe very little or no?) taxes in England.( Estonia had a very good deal for businesses.) Lots of people started providing their services for to set you up. It was a very simple and quick process. I guess that's your option. Don't get me wrong, I love the svenska system because it supports lots of roads, schools, healthservices, allowances, communityservices, etc. I also believe it is essential for all, you included. E.g. : If you brake your leg or worse , hospitals will give you good care, an ambulance will come fetch you. Trains ride on time, etc. Just wait for your taxreturn and see if in your case a simple ltd (online registration) would be better . So you can continue to spend your money in swedish shops & support the society of your new homeland that way.

@@joycekepic8947 Honestly, dunno if that still works. But above all as an éternel expat I do believe one needs some impro as well as some sound research. In order to keep your business and household afloat, one cannot just move abroad. But Rosie, used to travelling and being an expat, puzzles us with these incometaxes. But Sweden is quite a safe & clean country and that is worth a lot.

It’s nice to see quiet, sincere people succeeding on the platform like this. Also, that chair looks amazing, so glad you allowed yourself that little luxury… 🥰

A veces olvidamos lo simple de las cosas, creo que el hecho de estar inmerso en el día a día, en lo que dirán los demás nos hace olvidar que las cosas simples también funcionan y tienen más valor en tu vida

Loots of mosquitoes and deer flies during the summer time. But dont let that scare you.. You will need a bug jacket. A lot of Swedish people that live werry far out in the country side, often try to support themselves with hunting and fishing. Fruit trees and gooseberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant. Rubarbs and potatos. Sometimes they dig a pond, to have traut and crayfish too. Remember too keep at lot of long lasting foods like pasta and rice and canned food. Food prices in small town shops, are also much higher than if you go to a big city and shop. Prices in Denmark are higher than in Sweden. And remember that if you go out on your bike on what they call a high way or a bigger road, where there is no space for a bike. Be werry carefull because the truckdrivers dont give a f.... There are a lot of people that get killed on these roads on bikes or motorbikes. Thats also one of the reasons why you can drive a car at a werry early age in sweden. Sweden also have a lot of Second hand stores with a lot of cheap nice things.

Thanks for sharing! :) You see so many videos about "simple lifestyle", but none share the TRUE costs of living. It's nice to see a truly realistic approach and see your way of thinking/doing. Last summer we moved into a "cottage" in middle Finland we also bought with our savings. (Saw a lot of familiar items with your groceries! LOL) And we're fixing it up as we go, trying to spend as little as possible, while still wanting to live "comfortably". So, very similarly to your situation - even in costs and such - apart from the fact that we are two. I admire your bravery. And you are learning so much along the way and it's so nice to see your reasoning and doing. That's worth a lot! Keep going! 🥰

Hi Rosie, its great to see the progress you make on the cottage in every video and thank you for being so open and sharing the struggles too. There is not much of that on this platform but I think being open like this encourages people to communicate, share tips and learn. I am an expat too, trying to work freelance in a foreign country and its tough! But work and perseverance will pay off. I wish you all the best! I hope you keep making these videos, i am sure your channel will grow! 🌷

Thank you for your video and story. First, I want to compliment you on your haircut. It looks amazing. You have covered so many topics in this video and I find it very informative. The taxes are a killer for sure. You live so modestly but the utilities are also quite high. Do you have a fireplace or a wood burner? I am glad to see you have some adverts in your episode. Hopefully this will help financially. You are so inspiring and if you are like me I find that fixing things or decorating your cabin can be uplifting.

Lovely video ☺️. Your hair looks great 👍. Ten minutes haircut compared to 1 hour in the hairdresser and probably same result and free. One day you might talk about how you feel about living isolated and why you don't feel the need for social interaction. It's a subject that has always intrigued me because I feel the same but most people don't understand it.

You remind me of Ronja Røverdatter (Astrid Lindgren) She is wild, kind, independent and loves nature. 💕 About money, as long as you can support your lifestyle, that is enough. I am working part time, as I want time and energy for the things I love, like gardening. And yes.. groceryprices.. I travel from Norway to Sweden 3-4 times per year, as everything is cheaper in Sweden than in my country! 😅
