Do you still get airflow into the bunk/bathroom area from the AC when the door/screen/divider is shut, is there a vent? Great vids👍
@WildTouring Жыл бұрын
Cheers Noah, nah there is no vent down the back of the van. So it doesnt get airflow, and it is noticeably warmer down the back when the screens shut. Its not really a huge drama though, because through the heat of the day we leave it open. By the time we shut it at night its generally cool enough anyway.

Thanks for the comment about price of the van, etc. Acknowledge issues with supply chains through COVID, but bottom line - there has been a heck of a lot of price gouging in the caravan industry and in my opinion this van and many similar are now overpriced.. Some vans also have increasing issues with quality to rush them off the factory floor.

Nice run through and quality honest review. Just one question you sort of sounded a little disappointed overall. By the time you add more personal touches you will have spent over $100000. You mentioned Zone. Did you look or get a comparison costing? They seem to be the Ducks Guts! Cheers.

Yeah we nearly went with the zone but it was still $20,000 more than the boab (and over our budget) and unfortunately a few hundred kg heavier than we were looking for as well.

Hey guys so the enduro x atm upgrade involves the size of the brake drum and the coil spring capacity, your van would have 12 inch drums and 1700kg springs, standard form would have 10 inch drums and 1550kg springs. Alko mainly use King Springs, supplied in a range of different rates that are all the same height lined up,you can easily switch them out for 1850,2050 or even 2500kg springs with the 12 inch drum. The chassis also has an unused tank bay in the front if you ever need it.
@WildTouring Жыл бұрын
G'day Craig, that sounds about right mate! I did notice 1700kg springs and 12" drums on our model. I reckon i might use that spare tank bay in the future too, once ive sorted out the next tug!

One thing you could do is put in a solar diverter for your hot water, so when the batteries are full and the solar is still available it can directly run the element in the hot water tank. Basically you treat your hot water tank like an additional battery to store excess energy.

Hi guys, another great video! Don’t bother using Napisan in your toilet cassette (unless you have a heap of it at home given your current situation) We have found the Homebrand from Woolies to be the best. It has a higher percentage of Sodium Percarbonate in its makeup and works better, and is cheaper.

Sorry to hear you have had issues, but once you work them out all should be good. We are very happy with our Willow van. FWIW, we have a Willow 628X with Cruisemaster air suspension built in 2019. I think it may be the only air suspension van they have done. The suspension change had a knock on effect during the build, and resulted in delays, so Willow may be wary of air suspension since then.

@1989cranston2 жыл бұрын
We just completed 8months on the road with 2 kids. I cannot tell you how happy we were to be able to heat our hotwater from our battery system. We would have saved so much money over the course of the trip on gas refills. Never once had an issue or forgot to turn off the switch. A big plus was if we were driving somewhere in the early evenings we could be driving and heating our hotwater whilst also putting alittle back into the batteries via the DC/DC. Personally I think everyone with a semi decent lithium system should 100% do this. Installed a small LED light that was visible in the main compartment of the caravan so when the hotwater electric switch was on the LED illuminated so it was a reminder and hard to forgot to leave it on.
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
G'day Nick. At this point I'm thinking im quite happy to stick with a $20 refill every few months. But It's something I could look into, and have done in the future. How long do you think you run it for everyday to shower the family and wash dishes a couple of times a day? My main concern is that ours draws over 80a (at 12v), not a drama in good conditions. But I imagine several days in shade or cloudy overcast conditions would push the friendship. Same could be said for running the AC off the batteries, but the difference is this would almost always be in sunny hot conditions where solar yield is good.
@1989cranston2 жыл бұрын
@@WildTouring Cheers for the reply Cam. Ours pulls around 110A on AC through the inverter (losses). we didn't actually time ours, we just checked the battery percentage when we switched it on and after some trial and error, we found that using 10-12% of our total battery capacity. So if we were at 95% when we turned it on, we would turn it off around 85%. That gave us enough hot water to shower 2 adults, a 3year old and a 3month old. Naturally, to save on water the kids showered with mum or dad. We have 340Ah of lithium with 1.1Kw of solar. As for doing the dishes we would just boil the kettle for that if there wasn't enough hot water left as we were boiling the kettle anyway to clean the little fella's bottles. When I designed and installed our solar/battery system we knew we would be heavily reliant on power, I originally was going to put in 3x170Ah batteries but couldn't only order 2 due to stock issues with covid a few years back. We actually managed to get away with just having the 2x170Ah for the whole trip. we would boil the kettle at least 5times a day, used the toaster, and toasty maker, run the AC, and use my full-size espresso machine... we basically lived exactly like we would do at home power wise and it made the entire experience that much easier. In peak conditions, we would get 85Amps@14V going into the batteries from the solar. with our Air con, once the caravan was down to temp and the compressor was cycling we would end up being back to near 100% in our batteries on sunny/clear days whilst the AC was running. I am a sparky and heavily sprook getting a good solar/battery combo for vans as it truly makes the experience so much nicer not having to constantly manage your power usage.
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate! Totally agree, so good to have all the creature comforts and not worry about the power to run them. Looking forward to being able to run the aircon on those hot days! 😎

They won’t. The reason why is simple, whilst ever there is a massive demand and a massive wait list there is zero incentive to improve product build quality, they are more interested in pumping out units then the quality. Cheers Terry, we certainly don't have any intentions to 'crush' a company! And we have taken up the issues with the dealer who has been helpful. We also have an obligation to be open and transparent with our viewers that trust our recommendation - this pressure will always keep us honest.

Congrats on the new van. Pity about the issues you have experienced so far (seen it on socials). Mr Buck has put a video out regarding running your BBQ on the bayonet fitting, which I hadn't heard before. I'm sure you have seen it already. Hope you get the issues sorted with hassle. Thanks for sharing.

seems like you got the van reasonably quickly. good to see the washing machine and fire extinguisher both down low ( not like some vans) . look forward to the electric info video.

We did get it quick, got lucky with an allocated build made available for a new dealer in Perth.

Nice work. Love the honesty. As time goes by way too are seeing more and more Caravan manufacturers miss out on lots of important finishing touches. I could go on here for a long time but let’s just say the industry needs to step it up in quality control. I will be very interested in the electrical video you guys do. We spoke earlier about getting a package through us. Just wondering if they have used both solar panels on the roof being different types with different voltages all going into the one regulator.? Or have they use the Enerdrive‘s input? In either case I would seriously consider changing this. Do you want to be able to replenish your battery system while driving as well as roof solar to the best you can. Having separate solar controllers taking care of the roof array and a separate DC charger taking care of vehicle charging will allow you to do this. Consider adding an extra solar controller to take care of that separate array on your roof. Well done the guys at off road living do an excellent job.
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
It’ll all be explained in this weekends vid. There’s two dedicated solar controllers for two solar strings. Panels in each string are voltage matched. Enerdrives solar input is ran to draw bar for a solar blanket. So will get full solar input AND alternator input while we drive. They’ve nailed the build 😉

HiCam well presented by you and wife. Very informative. I guess you know Mrbuckaroonie also bought a new van. If you haven't seen his most recent video on using a gas bbq attached to a bayonet fitting on a van, check it out very interesting on what is legal and what is not.

Great video..nice to see Tiff again in front of the camera. I know you will talk about the battery system in later video...but did you get the battery/ off grid fit out during the building of the van or after you picked up the van. As we like to do thus fit out on our 7yr old van. Too expensive to buy a brand new van.

Hi Cam & Tiff, We love your videos and how practical and honest you are with your advice. With your en-suite sliding door, our van (Titanium) uses a bungee loop strap and hook which could be a simple option which won’t fail with vibration and I’m not sure if have seen or considered a SOG fan for your cassette which exhausts the odours in the same way as the fan in a composting toilet… cheap and easy to install. Keep the great videos coming… loving them. Safe travels…
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Graeme, Tiffs done something similar on the en-suite door but with a child safety strap. Appears to be working well so far. I like the idea of the SOG, I know it runs through a charcoal filter but is there truly no smell outside the van? I'd hate to be blowing toilet smells straight under my awning where we're sitting!
@graemegrieve19532 жыл бұрын
@@WildTouring good point Cam… didn’t consider that as our toilet (new “Ogo” composting) will have vent on offside.

I have a stove top like yours which does limit space. I found a handy hint from another channel-go to IKEA and they have a wooden board with a lip that sits perfectly over the top and creates more bench space/prep. I put non-slip matting underneath. Works a treat✔️ Congratulations on your new van. It didn’t take as long as I thought it would! Look forward to new adventures with the whole family x
