A great instance of dolphins saving humans from sharks was a group of four swimmers who were stranded in open water off the coast of New Zealand in 2004. The dolphins noticed the shark before the swimmers did and saved them from becoming shark food as the dolphins kept circling around them until the shark lost interest and left. Dolphins kill fish skates, marine mammals (they are toothed whales) and kill smaller younger, other species toothed whales just for fun. They're no saints, just wild anumals, they kill for fun or because share niche and play with dead. They kill each other occasionally, area is famous for themsee anytime. This is 100% true. My uncle worked on a military ship. And would tell us stories about how dolphins would approach them. He said sharks would sometimes follow the ships also and that they would run from dolphins. I didn't understand it. Because as a kid I thought sharks were kings of the sea. And my uncle told me "The Dolphins know how to drown them." Drown a shark? I asked. He told me "Yes. Me and my military brothers would watch dolphins swim under the sharks like lightening and ram their stomachs knocking them unconscious. While unconscious the sharks would drown and die." He told me some dolphins would hit the sharks so hard from underneath...it would propel them out the water completely, literally sending them airborne. He said they only did that to the sharks...when the sharks tried to approach the ship, as though they were protecting them.

Dolphins are highly emotional creatures, they love, just like humans, but if you love you will be very warlike. What does mean; how will you respond if someone, something, or even those just like you threatens to hurt or kill someone you love? It means you are warlike, very few creatures are warlike, dolphins, killer whales, other whale species, lions, ANTS, and humans. Warlike is not a negative trait, it means you are willing to fight and die for those you love and your moral imperatives. Why do dolphins help humans in distress or threatened by sharks, for the same reasons humans help dolphins and whales that are in distress. One day humanity may have to face alien races and we will ask one question; do they love or behave as sharks or crocodiles?

It's interesting how these ocean dwellers interact with others in the wild. Protecting various other species (not kin) from dangerous predators just seems to mimick human behavior.

Living in Florida it always amazes me how many dumb tourist think they're going to jump off the boat and swim with the Dolphins..."uhh no you're not"..."why not cap?"....me...."they aren't your friends, they're waiting to run through you like a freight train". This video is a bit skewed, most "friendly" Dolphins are around humans almost daily. Think Ducks hanging out around a retention pond and rubbing "elbows" with humans cause they think you have food. While there are cases of Dolphins saving people etc. The vast majority aren't out there with hearts and pink bows for mankind.

I think the real king of the ocean is probably a huge octopus that we have yet to discover? Like the kraken which I know a lot of ppl probably don’t believe in, but just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Specially when you consider we’ve only explored about 5% of the oceans.

Yeah im going to have to call BS I use to work on prawn trawlers in far north queensland and the by catch which got thrown aft would always attract scavengers, mainly sharks and dolphins. When a pod would turn up small sharks would immediately give up the prime position but big sharks (usually tigers or bronze whalers) never did and the dolphins kept a respectful distance.

Tigers, great whites, makos, and large bulls are not afraid of dolphins. They might be mindful of their presence if there’s a pod, but definitely not fearful. I’ve watched a tiger actively hunting dolphins in the gulf. They are ruthless killing machines.

That's neat. But sharks are not just "considered" the Apex predator....they are. The same way crows will attack and harass eagles and hawks.......dolphins harass sharks. We all know that, should a great white or tiger shark WANT to annihilate a dolphin, they could. The same way a red tail or bald eagle could decide to annihilate the harassing crows, should they want to put the effort in.

There are giants around vents but dolphins and sharks can't sustain themselves in those environments. In the depths there are large sharks but they have a very slow metabolism due to food scarcity, most are scavengers. There are also huge cephalapods.
