Fun fact. Hell is a norwegian verb meaning luck. Helvete (witch also is a place) is the Norwegian word for hell. Also while traveling in the wild and camping is allowed , it is with the condition that you should leave as little trace as possible in nature and not camp in farm fields or someones backyard.

There are also hundreds of cabins all over Norway for free. You can’t sleep in the same cabin more than one night and you have to wash and clean up after you. The two biggest owners of such cabins are DNT and Statsskog. Their websites are only in Norwegian, but with some preparation and translation you will probably find out of it. It’s also free to fish in salt water. That means in the ocean and the fjords only, from land or from boats. So some free meals are possible as well.

Is it dirty in southern Norway? I deal with many tourists during one season and no one has ever seen such a clean country and had such clean air anywhere. Maybe you should check your vision or sense of smell - I don't know - but you must have some kind of problem.

Nobody in Norway begrudges you cheap food.. bring food.. don't rent a camper here , that would be a luxury holiday. In addition to our roaming rights we have the tourist association, they have hundreds of cheap cabins and there are websites with other free accommodation. Simply behave well, and you can exercise your right to enjoy nature freely.. just prepare for the expensive unexpected.. . And behave responsibly.. as we consider everything and everywhere someone's kitchen garden or front lawn.

I did find it surprisingly cheaper than I first thought in Norway this summer. There's possibilities for those who aren't comfortable with driving a RV. We felt it made more sense to rent places and drive a car, as we where three people who like some privacy. In the high season we paid 500 NOK a day for a car (That we scratched up badly on a narrow road 🥲), 550 to 800 NOK a night for places to stay (Cabins and old farm houses), and charging the car on the Tesla chargers was about 5 NOK plus minus pr Kwh. A couple of places we stayed had slow chargers, and charged 100 NOK for leaving it in all night. Gas station coffee is great, but expencive. We made ourselves one of those big thermo cups each every morning before we left, and tried not to spend to much time or money at gas stations. The worst meal during a lengthy stay was McDonald's, as it was just so boring compared to all the other meals. We brought 6 bottles of wine from Schipol, and bought a couple more in Norway. Those where 140 to 200 NOK, so it didn't break the bank (But there was a lot of wines in the 100 to 140 NOK range). We tried to restrain ourselves at the monopoly so we didn't spend too much, tho. A 6-pack of tall boys cost me 200 NOK, if I remember right. When we split this between the three of us, we all felt we came out much better than expected. This ment we had room in our budget to do more activities and eat nice meals, all in all a great trip. People are super friendly and their hospitality blew our minds.

When certain ferry stretches are free or heavily subsidised, it was not really so much for the tourists, but to make life a bit more tolerable for locals who are maybe commuting. Norway has a policy of keeping small communities alive even on small islands.

For us who speak the language ,even living here , it's known, because the media talks about this, but it difficult to know what a tourist wants to know and what not. That some ferries are for free, that we know, that you pay less, when travelling with an electric car, we know, but does it bother tourists?

If I lived in Norway, I would eat Salmon with potatoes for breakfast, Salmon with green salad and maybe wild-rice for Dinner every day but it has to be wild caught, not farm raised (even in the open sea). Norway is beautiful and if it did not rain as much in Bergen I would live there.

Wow once again you two have made a fantastic video. I live in America and have never been to Norway, but I do have descendants from Norway and have always wanted to visit. I appreciate the way you do not put down or condemn higher priced hotels or travel, and allow for those who want to do that. I think showing the free travel and especially the kiack was great. The fact that you had some difficulty in finding trash shows that people are using them and picking up the trash of those who are inconsiderate. Thank you again for a great video.

This is really bad advice, useless. I can be a tourist there for $7 a day. Only idots buy CocaCola 1,5 l for €3,50. ( bottles 1,5 l) if you buiy the same Coke in 8 packs they are €7, 12 liters of orinigal Coke for € 0,90 per 1,5 liter bottle) The free ferires IS NOT MEANT TO PROMOTE TOURISM, they are meant for the local population, but tourists can also use them for free. Because of tourism they are planning to get rid of the free ferries, so tourism have made everything more expensive.

Tip for food in Norway, shop at smaller stores that don't belong to the "big monopoly" chains, such as Meny, Rema, Kiwi or Coop. There are a few in Oslo at least, and probably in bigger cities too. Some gas stations, that are away from very touristy spots will microwave your meal for you if you ask nicely. But getting a portable gas stove is better! Getting a good ice cooler for the car is a great way to preserve food if you buy in bulk. Although ice is expensive, about 3 euros per 2 kg.

There is hardly anything like a Norwegian travel Industry. Companies which are making a fortune on Norway, are all foreign companies, which are hardly leaving a penny in Norway. If you want Norwegians to have any benefit from your visit, - you just have to arrange your own tour and use all the fasilities which are available for you, all over Norway. We really don't mind that you know of all of this.

It won’t last long. It was meant to help locals who depend on it for commute, but now they can’t get on it because it’s full of tourists, so it will either be removed again or you’ll need a special card showing your a local to get it for free.
@chrisd7733

@@tjalve1 I'm sorry to hear that. I guess by making it public you are hastening its end, haha 😆. But I guess I can afford it, as long as they don't take away the free camping 😁. The story is that Iceland used to allow free camping but they severely restricted it because of too many tourists and them not respecting the land. Looking forward to more videos!
@lpdude2005
@lpdude2005 Жыл бұрын
@@tjalve1 Of course, these free ferries are just a plus for everyone. The tourists, on the other hand, pay a lot in Norway anyway. They pay several thousand in VAT and taxes on petrol and diesel and an average of NOK 2,000 in toll fees. In addition, they buy quite a lot - even if this video gives the impression of something else. We have 25% or 15% VAT on all goods. This year there is a 35% increase in tourism in Norway due to the low NOK - which has again accumulated many billions and not least new jobs. There is hardly a school student this year who has not had a summer job. It is always important to have a complete understanding of the consequences and not to take one thing out of a chain of things that belong together
@tjalve1
@tjalve1 Жыл бұрын
@@lpdude2005 cost isn’t the issue per se, but free ferries for everyone just means that interest in the rides are too high, so the locals that need the ferries (and the free price was intended to help) can no longer compete with the queuing of tourists and can’t use the ferries for commute. Thus, the initiative does not work and won’t make sense to keep as is.
