I'm a retired Park Ranger; and my advice is to NEVER ignore that Uneasy Feeling. In the military we would often set up camp, but when it's dark, quietly move to another location that you have scouted out ahead of time. Stay safe!

When a man is watching you from hiding, you are right to leave. And he was more visible than he probably thought he was. This is the behavior of a predator. Listen to your instincts, always. As you did. And never be afraid to offend a man who behaves as a predator. It is not pleasant to have to defend yourself after an attack begins. Even if you defeat him you will possibly be traumatized by the experience. It is better to slip out of his clutches before he realizes you are onto him. I speak from experience. I have escaped a man in the woods by acting calm and then disappearing at a moment when he couldn't see me. When he first passed me on the trail, he made me a little uncomfortable. After he passed, I stopped and took a drink from my canteen and looking back, like you, saw him in the distance through the shrubbery, watching me. Later I thought I could hear him behind me, so as I rounded a turn in the path I headed straight up the mountain as quietly as I could, hiding about 30-40 feet above the trail in a depression and staying quiet. When he finally realized further down the trail that I had disappeared he went completely berserk, swearing and beating the bushes, so he absolutely confirmed what he was up to and he never found me. After he gave up looking, I took another route out of the woods and got away safely. Trust your instincts. Always trust your instincts.

You did the right thing by following and trusting your intuition. If a situation doesn't feel right you need to get away. One piece of advice though is that you avoid camping next to a noisy stream. It makes it so that you cannot hear someone or some animal approaching. I'm glad that you're safe.
@stevesebzda5706 жыл бұрын
Gonagain and Bushcraft Vanessa , correct, Noisy streams should be avoided. Just a fisherman possibly, but I would imagine if there is one place to come across someone it would be along a stream (they are roads in other words). Difficult situation. A shame nicely you couldn't have made contact and show strength. That would have eased you also (even upload their picture and let them know too). Perhaps having someone seeing you have your weapons at your hips would show strength. I think they just disappeared quickly on their way possibly, so good call being you didn't know. Make contact next time if you can, you can always leave after that after sizing them up and seeing why they were there. You can always still leave like you did, I'll say again. That noisy river/stream nearby was the reason you fealt vulnerable and unaware. You should have re-camped and had silence except for a slight sound from that stream. It sounded like a river in your ear in other words. Cheers. :) [ edit: With that "noisy 'river' in your ears " the sound on the video sounded like you only had ten 5 or ten feet of alerting nature around you. That's way, WAY too little of a distance around you of an alarm of breaking branches and leaves, especially with a dog moving in them too. The "motorized chainsaw" you heard earlier didn't help. The 'raging river' was the trouble though. You can't even cock you gun and have it heard. You could have chambered and shifted that firearm several times noisily but that river stopped that even. Good call moving/leaving. Too many people (even that chainsaw) I'll say again. Yes, difficult situation but great video I would imagine usually though. Cheers again, Steve ]] :)

Learn to trust your gut feelings. They are the ancient warning system that will help keep you alive. Good for you for getting out of there! Now you can make more content and maybe even have a new subject to touch on that being your natural warning system. Everyone has one but few practice how to use it especially in the woods. Good video Vanessa!

This video brought memories of something I experienced... I did the pilgrim route to Santiago in Spain, I walked 6 month and most of the time I camped in the wild. I had nights on graveyards, in gypsy-camps, I slept alone in an old abandoned house with doors that slowly opened and closed but one time... I still think about it... It was in France and that day, late in the afternoon, I went into the woods to find a spot to sleep and as I walked and looked around for a good place, I had this strange feeling. It felt like a sphere of danger - a feeling of someone who hates me was watching me. I don't know how to describe but I remember very well the negative "energy" that made me nervous. You must know when I entered the wood, I saw this old sign with text on a pole. First I thought the text was written by a child because it was irregular but on the other hand, a pole in the ground with a sign screwed to it 2 meter above the ground? It started getting darker and more than once I looked behind me because I felt someone close to me. That feeling like any moment someone runs to you screaming...! I got in my tent and felt afraid, I didn't know what happened to me, why was my heart beating, what was going on? I was in my sleeping bag, as quiet as possible so I could hear the most. Nothing happened but my fear remained. After 10, 20, 30 (?) minutes I suddenly heard a branch breaking loud and clear! My eyes wide open, even my mouth was open and I knew something was going to happen. For minutes it was totally silent then... another sound of a breaking branch but this time it was different, like a slow footstep and, the most scary was, it had come closer to me! This was certainly NOT an animal! It sounds stupid but I waited for the moment the zipper of the tent would be opened in one fast movement and I would see the face of a maniac who came for me. Even now I'm writing this, I feel something of the horror I felt then! I waited and waited and suddenly a 3rd noise of breaking wood, again louder and also from closer distance, something walked slowly around my tent now... Again silent followed, total silent. This time it took so long it made me crazy so I got out of my sleeping bag and, as quiet as possible, opened my tent to get out. I had to see what made me scared and maybe I didn't care any more, I don't know but I had to see it! As a snake I crawled from my tent to a ditch nearby (you see more from a lower position). I had my little Swiss-knife opened and now I would die fighting. How good I watched and listened, nothing, absolute not a single sound or movement I noticed so after a pretty long time I went looking for the unknown something in the pitch dark. I mean, it has to be there otherwise I must have seen or heard something! No, I don't like to fight and yes I would rather run away from it but I just wanted to not be scared any more so I walked slowly in direction where the last sound came from. I made a complete circle around the tent but heard or saw nothing! After waiting a bit longer, I went back in my tent, a little more relaxed now, I listened for a while but heard nothing so I tried to sleep. Now the part I can not explain - every time I tell somebody what happened they think I was dreaming or I don't want to tell it, whatever... Ok, I was almost sleeping when all of a sudden there was the sound of someone walking very close by, it was not more than 2 meters away from me, I clearly heard the slow walking. I am 100% certain I was awake, damn I even remember I heard my own heart beating. After that, I have no memories, I thought about it many times but there is nothing in my mind after the wake-up. The first thing I remember was I walked out of the wood, felt confused and I kept looking back but saw nothing... So, Vanessa, I was happy you listened to your inner-voice and left. Thanks for reading ;-)

If you'll send a detailed acount of the incident to the tv show " Cuarto Milenio" , would be posible that they'll edit a tv chapter with your acount and anothers similar, and that they'll determine if that suposed stalker could be human or not. I know not everyone can carry a gun; not everyone wants to carry a gun and that is perfectly fine. I respect the decision not to carry. Bear spray works good but the best way to win in an attack.... dont be there to be attacked. I know that was very unnerving but it is better to be safe rather than be sorry. The important thing is to remain safe. The trash people leave behind, shows they have no respect, or consideration for nature or other people and broken glass means lack of safety for the animals and other people who want to enjoy the outdoors. The locations that you pick to go camping are awesome, I would enjoy seeing and experiencing those places myself. Yes there are places here in the states that are as nice but the videography that you present makes it absolutely beautiful. A hunter and prey dynamic exists in humans, I have had similar situations while camping alone, and yes I was armed but I have found that meeting the other person or persons on my terms and at the time of my choosing is usually unsettling enough to establish who is the hunter, bring some light fishing line and string a perimeter around your camp with cans filled with rocks as an alarm system, if God forbid you are ever attacked do not fight for yourself, fight for those you love as if protecting them and you will be in a mindset that provides a significant edge. This is why the roman army was defeated by women defending their villages in the teutoberg forest. The Teutoburg Forest is a range of low, forested hills in the German states of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. it happened In 9 AD, and many other places in Germany because a German mother protecting her children is a dangerous thing. It is in you already never hesitate to unleash it when it is needed because the best weapon crafted by man is useless without the heart and hands to wield it. And you have that heart Vanessa.

Vanessa another sneaky idea is to place size 12 work boots outside your tent or bring another sleeping bag and stuff it until it looks like a large man is in camp with you sleeping, anyone observing your camp will think twice and not know you are alone. Set two plates and cups by the fire. Think about getting a flare gun at the boating store and hooking it to the thin fishing line around the perimeter of your camp, a flare at night will scare mountain lions bears and humans, plus it is a good alarm system that lights the area up.

In Germany, pepper spray is classified into two categories. The first type of pepper spray, such as Mace, Sabre and other brands used for defense against human aggressors, is considered a serious weapon in Germany and is subject to strict regulation. According to the German Arms Act, weapons are defined as both firearms and all other portable objects intending to “remove or reduce a human’s ability to attack or defend.” Anyone interested in possessing pepper spray, or any other weapon, must satisfy rigorous conditions outlined by the Arms Act and undergo a lengthy, highly regulated process involving licensure through the German government.The second type of pepper spray in Germany is reserved specifically for protection against animals. According to USAG Bavaria’s German Polizei Liaison, Gerhard Maenner, animal-repellent pepper spray is not considered a weapon in Germany and anyone over 18 is authorized to carry it. The label must read Tierabwehrspray, which means “animal defense spray,” or in some way indicate that the pepper spray is only for protection against animals. The only reason for possession must also be for this purpose. The spray is available at sporting goods stores in Germany.Pepper spray is sold in Germany to anyone over the age of 18, as a defense against wild animals. It is also accepted (technically illegal, but the police don't care) that women or vulnerable people may carry one to protect against assault or other aggression

Glad you came out safely! I'm an hammock camper and despite beeing a man my knife and my hand flashlight always sleep besides me. Remember that a strong beacon of light in the dark will blind any atacker and will give you time to strike him/her first. May it never hapen but if it does be prepared to REALLY use whatever weapon you choose to defend yourself. Remember there is nothing worse for a defender as to hesitate, because the atacker will take advantage in the next second. Still you have chosen wisely, stay safe!

I like your videos. My one piece of advice for people in a siruation where they do not feel safe. FORGET THE VIDEO COMMENTARY. You need to tune into your surroundings and assess your situation. Talking into a phone or camera us distracting. Worry about your life first. When you got to the car you should have left the area immediately. Voice and sound carry PREPARE to defend yourself and GET OUT of the area. Keep your wits about you. If you are actively being pursued put a geographic feature between you ans your pursuer. ÌÈ a hill, a river etc. You may or may nor know how many people are out there. Be Careful and be safe. Your safety is more important than a KZbin video.

Vanessa: love your' videos. It takes big ones for a woman to go into the wilderness alone even during the day time. Not to mention your' attack dog. :O) One suggestion for at night. It would be better to use a red lens flash light. you loose your' night vision with a white light and can not see anything beyond the light. You would be surprised how much you can see in total darkness when you use a red light, even when you turn off the light. Try it sometime in complete darkness. Learned that a hundred years ago when I was in the Army.

Hi Vanessa- You kept your wits, used your brains and got out safe- all good ! I am so disheartened about the trash ever where too. Humans continue to spoil the mother earth and future generations will live in a cesspool of garbage---so sad.

Always trust your gut instinct, very sensible to leave if it doesn't feel right. The situation was probably heightened because you were in a different location, but if it doesn't feel right inside you, best to get out. Not been to Bavaria before...if you need a bodyguard, give me a shout...you're better looking than young Nathan that came out camping with me last week 😂😂😂

Two questions. Can anyone tell me what the little round stove with the fire is and what is the gear belt she has on her waist? I'm interested in both of those.

Good call getting out when you did, definitely was someone watching you. Anyone genuine whatever the country would approach and politely say hello, the person watching you was taking cover behind bushes/thicket and slowly leaving so as not to make noise which says to me the person didnt have good intentions. I would stay away from that location for good because whoever it was might be waiting for you to return in the future. I am lucky i have two big k9 dogs which i know will protect me. I was watching your dachshunds body language and you could see the dog was listening in the same area as the person that had been moving too. Take care and stay safe. Atb Bill.

@@WildWomanBushcraft Did you report the incident to the authorities? Given that you are always carrying the GPS. You should be able to give a precise location and video. People who engage in predator behavior don't just do it once. As someone else said, he will be back there again. While he didn't get to commit a crime this time, the next person might not be so lucky. There are have been terrible incidents along the Appalachian trail in the United States, that began similarly to your situation here...

@@jeffprice6421 I think she was someware in the Bavarian woods - most of this woods are no wilderness at all, an always very near to the next village - its not comparable to the American Wildernesses at all... And because this woods are always near the next village and Germany is densely populatet, you can meet all kinds of people in the woods all the times.... So this situation must not have been dangerous = it could have been an idiot, who whas randomly near here camp and only interestet what this alone women/person is doing there.... Camping in the economic forests ist not very usual here in Germany... But it was good that Vanesse has left... Greetings!

Vanessa, it is such a shame that you had to leave. It might have been simply another person camping and enjoying the woods as you were doing, but since you didn't know, I can understand the decision to leave. In the long run, and for your peace of mind, I am sure you made the correct decision. Like you, I am very upset with the way people throw their "garbage" everywhere! Almost every day someone is throwing trash out of their car into my yard! I even left a very large trash can next to the road and my driveway, yet still they throw their garbage on my lawn! Whatever you take with you, you should ALWAYS take back with you and properly dispose of it! If for any reason a person could not bring it back, they could at least bury it in the ground deep enough that it would not cause harm to people or animals going through the woods. I enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one. I wish I could go with you on one of your trips and learn more about the uses of natural wild growing herbs and plants, and also to learn to intelligently speak German. Keep having a wonderful time camping!
@tbusch636 жыл бұрын
Wayne Thompson very well stated and very correct in context! Peace Brother I too experience the trash syndrome! I never thought of putting a garbage can along side my property. But, with the idiots today? I feel, they would be within arms reach of the can and still drop it in my yard or on my street! BS! Their parents should have slapped them upside their head a few more times in my opinion! My 2 boys do that? They will pay Hell if I find out!😡😡😡

Trust your instincts GOD gave them to you to help you. If it is legal to carry a firearm I would. But even so if you are forced to shoot someone to protect yourself you still lose. If you can walk away it is always best to do so. Stand your ground only if you have to in order to protect people and property. Trust your dog if their hackles are up I’m thinking it is a pretty good confirmation. PS: don’t put to much faith in the car if you are not leaving the scene...

Good that you left . This person knew you were there . Should of said hello to you by lurking around this left a bad feeling in your tummy . Walking stick that a knife can be attach to for a spear is good . Small rocks in metal can that are attach to line to a stick or tree acts as trip wire for early defence .The creek was a good escape route and climbing trees for defence . Blow whistle 3 times is SOS for help . all the best Howie
@lanah86785 жыл бұрын
Who was going to hear the whistle? The man, if he was a good kind, would have yelled a "hello" and then went on his way, or at least was a bit noisy to show he wasn't hiding being there. But he just hid.

Susan Lawless I like your train of thought! She / everyone should go with their gut feelings more! They are there to protect you. As for the butt munch claiming a gun isn't necessary? Let him argue with a .45 cal pointed at his face/Heart and see if he wants to try some shit! You are correct! You can't use it, if you don't take it... Windbreaker, hoodie, Umbrella, fire starter, Cordage, tent, shovel or gun! I believe Women should be able to do what ever a man can do without fearing for their safety! A gun is an AWESOME EQUALIZER! Just use it prudently! IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, PULL GUN OUT! Shit goes sideways? Use gun to straighten it out! Peace and love to you both💖💗💓💞....Piss on the others!😂

TheWildsourdough TheWildsourdough lol. You are absolutely correct. I do carry but in the wood would use bear spray. We have alot of bears in Florida. Besides Im not certain but I dont think guns for carry are even allowed in her part of the world. Personally it looks to me that homeless people may frequent that part of the woods. Another camper wouda said hello and offer reassurance to a lone girl. She made the right call leaving. Sadly not all people have good souls.

Great survival instincts! Your intuition is your best friend. The voice inside that says, "on guard!" Plus, him creeping thru like that gives away big bad vibes you cant ignore. The yellow flower is St Johns-wort I believe. My pet peeve: visiting the local state park lake early in the quiet morning, then maintenance revs up a super loud leaf blower to blow a few leafs thru the parking lot thats more than a couple blocks long! How rude lol ✌🏼peace to you n your pup! Nice to see your vlogs. Good times trekkin' about!🗺

Vanessa, maybe it might be a good idea to get a small calibre hand gun like a 22 . Vanessa, I believe in this present day it's not so much the animals we have to worry about but it is the human kind that can leave us in fear of doing the things we love to do. I think your a wonderful roll model for all women and a good teacher for both men and women when it comes to surviving and enjoying the beauty that nature has to offer us, thank you from a fan.
