Mmmmm beer! Being of roughly 1/2 German descent there is a special place in my heart for beer. Being in my late 50s I don't drink so many now,my "weekend warrior" days have come and gone,well,there may be a vestige hiding in me. :) Over the last 20 years or so I developed a taste for dark beer,*very dark* beer like porters and stouts,the darker the better! Thankfully there are now many American micro-breweries all around the country. Some are too expensive but others are well within reason.. Maybe you could carry a few small mylar bankets with you,they are very easy to pack and weigh next to nothing. Could have been a big help for your cold night. They can be found for low cost too. Amazon and eBay are the obvious choices,just don't let them hit you for shipping or charge more than $1 per blanket.

Hi there Vanessa. Sorry to hear about that man walking around your camp. I am a man & have 2 sons, even though we are men we still always keep an eye & an ear out. We have come to a habit if alone or in a group, of before we camp out we scan/recon the area at a distance of about 100 yards in every direction. Thanks again for all the videos you share with us. Take care girl & keep enjoying the great out of doors.

I also like beer for lunch and also diner and supper. Regarding keeping warm in your hammock if the weather turns cold. If you have an emergency survival blanket as they are about the size of an envelope and made from space suit material they are easy to carry and you can use this to line your hammock. Then pull the ends over you and put your blanket on top or even wrap yourself in it. These little space blanket emergency blankets are handy even for non-emergencies. I have improvised an emergency shelter using one and though it wasn’t very comfortable it kept the rain off. I often line my sleeping bag or bivvy bag with one if its likely to be cold at night. They only cost a couple of pounds or in your case euro’s. When you have finished with it give it to the little kids (Kinder) to play with, they will love it. Dogs have a higher body temperature than humans so give the doggy a cuddle to keep warm.

Hi from Colorado. Glad to see you were able to overcome that frightening camp trip and are at ease once again. Even being a guy can be uncomfortable too, too many weird people nowadays, but I carry protection all the time so not so bad. I really thought you were going to drink beer and shoot at the empties with your sling shot. Beautiful area. Always have appreciated Germany for the green scenery. Was stationed in Spangdahlem Germany many years ago, beautiful area too.
@kennlabarre24036 жыл бұрын
A super video -- thank you! I agree with you: the area was peaceful & beautiful; I'd be reluctant to depart. I could almost taste the beer -- yum! It was an ideal location for it, just sorry the nighttime temperatures were colder than expected. It's what makes bushcraft so enjoyable though.

Hi! The pink flowers are known as Himalayan balsam (Impatiens gladulifera) in the UK, where they are classed as an "invasive species" - my local conservation group regularly removes a lot of these from the park to stop them spreading- next time I'll try eating the flowers :) Nice Tyrol hat BTW - got a similar one when I was in Münich this May!

Vanessa, I am enjoying your videos very much! One thing I wanted to pass on to you, though... if you are caught by a thunderstorm, it's a very bad idea to huddle close to the trunk of a large tree... tall trees tend to attract lightning, and if the tree is struck, the charge can follow the phloem layer to the ground, and you wind up in the discharge path. Finding shelter in a dense thicket of younger, smaller trees is generally a safer option. Good trekking and keep enjoying the wild!

Hi Vanessa .. I must have missed this one (or forgotten .. old age 😊). A nice outing .. Phinea looks like she is very good company .. and a good alarm system too 👃👂 😊. Your catapult (we called them 'Catties' back in my days) brought back many happy memories of a 'misspent' youth .. thank you 👍. As a young boy living in Durban, South Africa, my friends and I made many Catties from wood sourced from our local forest (Burman Bush .. very dense (thick) inside). The rubber came from strips cut from an old car tire tube and the piece of leather to hold the stone missile .. 'salvaged' from 'somewhere' .. 'anywhere' 😉. We spent many happy hours roaming in the Bush getting up to all sorts of mischief 👿😊. If the Nature Conservation Rangers caught us with our Catties, they would confiscate them (take them away) 😯 .. but then we would then go and make more 😁. Our shooting technique (method) with our catapults was a bit different to yours (in my opinion .. more accurate .. and less chance of injuring the hand holding the catapult). One again Vanessa .. a very nice outing thank you (Dunkle Schoggi .. Yumm 💜) .. take care out there 👃👂👀 .. LG .. Tommy

Great looking natural fork slingshot, wish that yo made a close up of it and told us more about it. I would suggest that you hold your slingshot sideways, establish an anchor point like the corner of your mouth when you pullback the pouch, use the tip of the prong as your sighting reference , and for starters just use single bandsets, then move to double when you are more comfortable. I shoot slingshots as a sport, bushcraft and hunting small game.

Looks like a very nice place to hike around and camp, and doesn't appear to be overly traveled by other humans. When you started setting up camp with all the wind I wondered why you didn't stay down in the gorge a bit to be more protected from the wind. I agree, I feel much safer in nature than in a city. -- I like the idea of a hammock but I sleep on my stomach so they have never worked out for me. -- Are the nuts in the pine cones big enough to eat? Here we have Bull Pine and they have huge cones with big nuts. At the right time of year you can find the nuts on the ground and easily pick up a couple hand full to munch on.

Hi Vanessa; It's Ok to Chugalug (Swallow Quickly) Beer and burp afterwards..! =) The weather is always unpredictable, the weather people can only predict what the weather might do, they are usually never right on the money about weather. Always try to be prepared.. if you don't have enough room for a sleeping bag at least try to bring some extra clothing or a full size blanket or a pullover sweater. Your small blanket was very sheer (see through) not much warmth to it, you have to protect the body core temperature, most important... even another flannel shirt like the one you had on would have been good..awesome video..! I saw what we call here Black Raspberries... it also makes great tasting Ice Cream too. Did you bring some Chocolate on this trip, I so love Chocolate..! =) take care and be safe out there.....

I love the way you film your video's, makes me feel like I am exploring the woods too. Very nice touch on the Scorpions' "Wind of Change whistling with your dark silhouette. The part about the dead birdies shows me that you have a tender soul. Vanessa stay safe and keep the videos coming.

That video brought back fond memories for me... eating young hazel nuts when they were tiny and seeing you bite down on the shell...that was me years ago hehe. And the blackberries... collecting them when young too. You're a tough woman just sleeping with that tiny thin blanket...we all know that no matter how hot it really is, your body feels the shock of a cooler temperature as it drops between 3.30 and 4.30am...yet you did it! Well done you! And that pooch is far too adorable lol. Best wishes as always

Great video. I love exploring new places in the woods. I never leave trash in the woods, like I always say, the only thing I leave behind is my foot prints 😏 The part of the video would have been a great commercial for Paulaner Hefe-Weizen. I am so lucky, I live in America and a new local place started selling Weihenstephan 😀 it was hard to find here before. I'm glad you didn't let the bad experience stop you from enjoying the outdoors. Great video 👍

Ha Ha I was cracking hazel nuts while i was watching your video. I also have DD camping Hammock and tarps. Also never camp under pine trees as the branches break easily in the wind, and pine sap is also hard to get off your equipment. Beer tastes so much better out in nature. Enjoy.
