There's a challenge to obtain quantitative data with something so nuanced and arguably subjective. At the end of the day, I always think a new runner should find a shoe that makes running as easy and fun as possible (to avoid getting discouraged on the front end).

As someone who uses stability shoes (and has terrible flat feet), even different brands/models can feel different. But in a nutshell, stability shoes were made primarily to passively support overpronation. So using it for anything else might not be the best idea.

Running is a great medium for bringing muscle imbalances, tissue restrictions/immobilities to light. If injuries start occurring or perhaps more importantly, start reoccurring, it's most likely time to see someone trained to assess and address imbalances/restrictions/immobilities instead of rolling the dice and hoping a new pair of shoes "solves" the issue(s).

I do overpronate but I feel better running in stable or/and guided neutral running shoes. I stayed a few years without using stability shoes and I restart using then since last half of 2022. Now I need to adapt myself to run long distances with a stability shoes like my Asics Kayano Lite 3 or the Mizuno Wave Inspire 19. For now ,my stability shoes are to do short runs up to 10km max. A d I feel good and faster running in then but my feet get a bit sore ...

Great question! I had been thinking about the same idea. The last few years’ shoes of increasing stack height adds to the problem. Especially the early carbon plated shoes that promotes pronation and with high stack makes it more injury prone.

I did run Valencia back in 2019 with a pair of Kayano 25 and they wrecked my knees. The Escalante a year before was absolutely brilliant instead.

Great points, I really appreciate your evidence-based approach. Can you please share the reference to the 2014 systematic review?

I over pronate, using neural high cushion shoes. Only problem is how fast I need new shoes, shoes warp after 150miles. Only reason I am considering stability shoes is so they last longer. Some warp slower than others. But maybe after this video I just need to buy more shoes all the time because I have no issues with injuries.

I’m against shoes with arch support they don’t let your feet do what they were intended to do

Be careful with these stability shoes. Ive been wearing them this whole year and have had ankle problems this year. Doctors appointments, physical therapy and xrays. It was the shoes. Go get fitted by a professional

I'm a stable runner with minor supination and the Saucony Tempus is my "golden" shoe. I choose the Tempus over all others. Without the Tempus I'd be F'd. I like that it just bounces along running slow and fast.
