Will a Washing Machine DESTROY a Nintendo Gameboy?

For the longest time I've wondered what would happen if my mom accidentally washed my Nintendo Gameboy when I was a kid. Now as an adult I know.

@@sanjaysomnarain1 not sure yet. Its sitting in my test room as we speak. The question is if I feel safe running it as-is in my wash room, or if I should run it out side. Also considering risking my GoPro 10 for the inside view of running it w/ the concrete as well.

Will it survive a concrete block? I don’t think it can handle that type of abuse and it will explode i would definitely recommend standing far from it while running that test Our LG is 16 years old and still going model WM2050CW. It will probably last till 20 years. The door gasket has mildew on it unfortunately due to not cleaning the washer frequently enough 😢

Lol you remind me of a boy who grew up in my neighborhood. Even as a little kid, he was always repairing bikes and lawn mowers… until on day he put a lawnmower engine ON a bicycle and created his own moped! Drove them up and down our street past all the houses, testing his work. He has his own thriving auto repair [family] business and a towing service with a fleet of trucks. Fifty years now. My younger sibling once accidentally threw the Game Boy version of Yoshi's Cookie in the wash before because it was in their jeans pocket still. It still worked and still does long after the wash. It didn't go into the dryer since my mother air dried everything as much as she could. Nintendo has/had a tendency to overengineer everything. It wouldn't surprise me that Nintendo factored in some degree of durability in regards to water. And I'm pretty sure that the DMG-01 is a concrete block in itself.

I did something similar with a Pokémon Y cartridge, the only thing that happened is now, the letters bump out. Actually fits the 3Ds

That's amazing. One way I dry my electronics is placing the device in Crystal kitty litter or white rice for a period of time. I was surprised that you were able to get that Gameboy working again. Great work.

Most electronics are manufactured wet. Service centers dishwasher stuff all the time as a first step - goo or dead bugs can short out contacts so its a troubleshooting step. As long as its not corroded or super wet it'll be fine, relax.

Nice transition to Atlas VPN. Guessed the gameboy would work or the video wouldn’t have been shown. However, I could never mistreat electronic devices like that unless it was my piece of crap HP laptop. Never had a front load washer. Is it normal for water to be present when loading?

Thanks for the great question. On the water being present - I did tests/troubleshooting/diagnostics on this exact machine in some videos. I showed people how to run various tests that forced the valves to operate to show if they worked or not. It was residual/leftover water from those tests that wasn't pumped out as that test was skipped. I cut the video out showing it draining as soon as I turned the washer on. Normally there shouldn't be any water in the tub that is visible.

@@bensappliancesandjunk Thanks for the reply. I figured it wasn’t norm., it would generate problems ie. mold, mildew. I’ve heard of problems with smelly machines before specifically side loaders thus my question. I keep my top loader lid open and ensure the soap dispenser is drained just in case. Love your videos. Great info.
