In Bengal, we do not need metro, industry, any sign of progress. We read Rabindranath, see uttam kumar, satyajit and enjoy tea with intellectual talk. And oh we also need 2 rupees/kilo rice.

agree with Tukai DAS... the way things are progressing, I don't think even my grandchildren can ride the entire planned route of Kolkata metro... like the Barrackpore line, complete Barasat line etc..

দুয়ারে 2 টাকার চাল, 20 টাকার পাউচ্ আর মাসে 500 টাকা ভাতা এর বিরুদ্ধে কথা বললে বাড়ি জ্বালিয়ে দেয়া হবে, এমন রাজ্যে মেট্রো তো দূরে থাক, দুদিন বাদে রাস্তাঘাটও দখল হয়ে যাবে সরকারি উদ্যোগে।

Seriously, this is not happening at least in the next 15 years by the looks of it (unless WB Govt. itself takes over the project and fast-tracks the construction). And given the narrow width of the Jessore Road, its going to be a traffic nightmare in the days to come, rest assured. There seriously needs to be a bypass/ring road to bypass this entire Airport-Madhyamgram-Barasat stretch. Enough of protecting farmlands within the Metropolitan area, WB Govt. must purchase all such lands immediately, and attend to the woes of daily commuters. A ring road should be built (connecting New Town-Rajarhat) such that existing Jessore Road is used only for local transportation vehicles upto Barasat. But for vehicles going beyond Barasat (either towards Habra-Bongaon-Petrapole or towards Krishnanagar-North Bengal) must have an alternate signal-free access for quick exit and entry for the city. Metro cities across the country have built or are building tremendous infrastructure to ease traffic congestions, even at entry-exit points. Govt. of West Bengal is least interested to build superior infrastructure for Greater Kolkata region. And the people have now voted the very same Government to power, so cheers to them.

Sir, I just want to say. Barasat metro is extremely very difficult , if ever going to happen in future according to its view of geographical conditions as surrounded.But why don't railway government step forward to make this branch of eastern railway ie Sealdah- Bangaon route into triple or Quadraple route to runs multiple emu trains as possible. Because this is the most crowdiest route of eastern railways.

You didn't listen him carefully..he told that, survey report and DPR (detail project report) will take five years, whereas implementation period is uncertain and indefinite, which means it may not start even in next 20 years, forget about completion.

@@shngain100 DPR was prepared till barasat long back..DRP till New Barrackpore stands valid as no realignment is required..but after New Barrackpore, realignment to underground is proposed due to encroachment issue..hence new DPR to be prepared for rest of the route..Here, we are are talking about New Barrackpore just after Birati..not the Sodepur- Barrackpore..!

Just throwing money at any project is not enough. The reason for less budget allotment is the slow pace. Kolkata metro is the slowest metro rail project in the country. Although the Kolkata metro is under ministry of railways, the responsibility of relocating encroachers lies with the state government. Our state government has shown zero to little interest in that. Other metro systems like Namma metro or Chennai metro are getting good budget allocation because they make things work. There is negligible presence of the BJP party in Tamilnadu still Chennai metro got 63k crore budget allotment this year. It's not like they don't face problem of encroachment. Their government relocates people and compensates them handsomely which our government has clearly failed to do. Even the companies working on the Kolkata metro keep complaining about little help from state government and some of them have already left the projects.

This metro line is badly needed and the construction along the Jessore road makes more sense than along the local railway tracks as it will be much easier for majority to access the metro. In the morning the trains to Sealdah are overcrowded and the buses to other parts of Kolkata are also overcrowded and the traffic is also immense near airport. It will give some breathing space to people of Barasat and also people coming to the city from other parts of the district.

All of your videos are excellent with the grafics and amezing editing. You are the best you tube channel on this subject. However, it's not synonyms for Kolkata Metro, as you rightly said, the only progress of our metro we can bank on, is Hope. The kind of time it takes to build on route (like Joka, Barasat, Dakshineswar etc), the rest country finishes several routes in multiple cities...still they don't have what we have - Hope.

Solution: Lack of space: Underground Space but vocal complaints due to ground vibration: Elevation Space available: On ground Metro is not underground, but is the only solution to railways where there is land acquisition issues and resident complains.

That may also be true because even cities beyond Kolkata and Durgapur in South Bengal have no access to local public transport except for overcrowded auto rickshaws ferrying people to nearby local train stations. If there is WBTC, why isn't it serving West Bengal as a whole? Why only Kolkata?

@@metropolitantransit7276 once one of most rich region of India, west Bengal have now turned into a place where everything happens if it's politically viable, people aren't priority, politics is. . With all ficaso which happened in past 2 months, don't expect any support from center without official request which I am sure state government will not do, because ego is too big to keep aside. Anyways people get what they choose. Enjoy khela!

Actually all subdivisional governments have power over public transport so they can just ignore peoples' demands and do what they do just like what you said. Even here in Canada in the Province (we don't say state) Ontario there is barely any public transport development despite having metro 30 years before Kolkata did.

I am living at Barasat but unfortunately another long long years require to buit up Barasat metro connection which will painful for us.We are daily passenger unable to tolarate the huge gathering of railway passsenger of Bongson local

Why don't they think of extending the Barasat Metro to Kalyani taking the Barasat Barrackpore road and then following the Kalyani Expressway. The latter part could be fully elevated. There is ample space along Kalyani Expressway to build a Depot so that problem will also be solved.

Possibilities of introducing metro in Siliguri, Asansol and Durgapur should be explored on priority basis as these places are growing at rapid pace. If things are planned from now onward, implementation of projects in these cities may not face much hindrances. When other states are introducing metro services in several cities, why should we at Bengal remain as mere spectators. Hope concerned authorities will look into the matter seriously.

I think Asansol-Durgapur and Siliguri should have at least 25 km each of metro line. But I think Assam will have its first metro in Guwahati before these two cities

Kolkata is a metropolitan city but kolkata doesn't have any tall skyscrapers over 300m. Metro in kolkata is good but where are tall skyscrapers

Rather than skyscrapers it needs to provide employment to both white collar and blue collar jobs. It needs to build 2-3 more Newtown areas especially on the Howrah side

Kudos for an excellent and very informative series 👍 When the first episode came out, I was hopeful that there was at least some positive news about this line. But all hopes came crashing down after seeing this last episode. They want 5 years just for surveys and other preliminary work?! Seriously?? Also, the state desperately needs to tackle the problem of land acquisition, otherwise we will NEVER get any good infrastructure. But knowing how the state govt works, it seems like a pipe dream and we will have to make do with this creaky infrastructure. Also, do you know if the Barrackpore metro is also stuck in an infinite delay like this or is there some hope on that front?
