Allen was the best pure athlete in his draft class, but the big question was "can he put it all together" and he did. I'll always say Buffalo was the best place for him to go, and any other team probably wouldn't have made it work for him. Would love to see you guys check out some of his highlights, he's just insane at times with the plays he can make.

He’s not a product of anything. Every elite QB didn’t get drafted into a perfect situation (besides Mahomes), most of them didn’t, yet they went on to become elite QB’s because they aren’t a product of their surroundings. Had Allen been drafted by Denver or Indy or Cleveland he would still be destroying everyone.
@jamess.931
@jamess.931 9 ай бұрын
@@axe2grind244 now I agree somewhat but at the same time another team may have just benched him or traded him off after his first season. If we was just moved to 2nd string then he wouldnt have grown as much as he did being #1 for Buffalo every year. No doubt another team could have done the same but Buffalo had been searching for their franchise QB for decades and they knew he was it for them

one of the reasons why he was able to improve so much is because he didn't come from the traditional QB developing camps and schools. Most (if not all) the QBs drafted into the NFL get there after decades of high tech coaching, critiquing their passing form down to the littlest motion, with tens of thousands of extra passes in spring leagues and summer camps. Josh had none of this extra coaching till he got to the NFL. Here was a kid in the NFL without an ounce of specialized coaching the rest of the country gets for a decade before they hit the league. He said the first time he had such a coaching session with Coach Palmer, he was in the room with half a dozen other pro qbs, and they were breaking down passing form, and everyone in the room was told "looks good" till they got to him, and every little thing he did was basically wrong. He realized he could get a LOT better if he worked on that. And he did. See if a QB has a 50% completion rate and he's been to every QB school and coach, he's probably hit his ceiling already. but Josh was the definition of an unpolished gem.

I’m not really a bills fan. Most QB’s, or players in general, come from money…come from athletic families…blah blah blah. most don’t come from places like Fireball California. Most players don’t go to Wyoming, or another similar group of five school, and most teams would give up on a player like Allen after the first miserable season…and so would all the fanbases. Josh Allen is a story that’s actually a story, and player that I love to root for. Can’t stand him when the titans play the bills or when I’m matched up against him in fantasy football, but I love him the other times. So glad y’all checked him out.
@andrewambrusko3651

Saying his first season was miserable is an overreaction. He went 6-5 throwing to players like kelvin benjamin who gave him no seperation whatsoever. The second the bills gave allen a team to work with he showed a lot more success, but his 1st season wasn't a dumpster fire like everyone says, he was put in one of the worst starting positions in the nfl while you had qbs like mahomes throwing to kelce and tyreek hill day one.

You've been feeding my Buffalo sports love recently, and I thank you for it. The Dominator, RJ, and now JA. Bills fans have been starved for good QB play since Kelly and Flutie in the 90s. So when Allen finally started to play up to the level of his incredible potential, it was such a sigh of relief for all of us. Also, I'll suggest you find a video about the insanity, and also generosity, of the Bills Mafia. Fans who will dive through flaming tables before a game, and then give money to an opposing player's charity afterward. Very proud to be a member.

A couple years ago during the off-season, he got private coaching to improve his throwing mechanics, using computer-generated biomechanical models and other feedback data. He radically improved his accuracy. He has abilities that can't be "coached" into an athlete, particularly ARM STRENGTH. He has to consciously choose to restrain himself from throwing the ball too hard so his receivers can catch it without suffering ruptured blood vessels or broken fingers. He's very similar to Brett Favre in that he can make throws that other quarterbacks can't (long-distance, high velocity frozen ropes). Also like Favre, he can be reckless with his throwing choices and often gets burned. Also, too often, he'll run dangerously by not sliding to avoid contact. He plays like a daredevil. No fear.

Josh Allen is one of my favorite stories in my over fifty years of watching football. I watched his first year in the NFL and saw a very determined young man who was a great leader. I just knew he would fix his mechanics because he exuded character. I never doubted him. I’m a Vikings fan but Josh Allen quickly became my favorite NFL player. I was thrilled to see him finish a narrow second in the MVP race in just his third year. Even people who initially didn’t like him going into the draft said he had a low floor but potentially a high ceiling. I was not surprised that he raised his floor and reached a very high ceiling. Aside from being a freaky athlete, he put in the work. And his team mates immediately loved his infectious personality. He’s truly one of the faces of the league now.

Yeah, 50% completion isn’t great at any level, but you see it a bit more often at the college level. Anthony Richardson, who has a similar style and build to Allen and was just drafted in the 1st round, had around a 54%, so it’s not a total killer if the physical tools are there. Allen took a while to develop because of playing at smaller programs and injury. He also had to contend with high winds in Wyoming and didn’t have a great supporting cast at Wyoming or for his first year in Buffalo. Once Stefon Diggs showed up, his career changed in a big way.

Someone with a really interesting story is Jordan Mailata, an OT for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was an Australian rugby player who had never played American football in his life, but he entered the "International Player Pathway Program" which gives non-Americans a chance to try out for NFL teams and the Eagles ended up drafting him in the 7th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Now he starts for arguably the best offensive line in the league.

One thing the film narrator did not mention was the significant contribution Jordan Palmer made to Josh's development. Josh spent spent several years under Palmer's tutelage during which time Palmer calmed Josh down and improved his method of delivering the ball. During an interview on the Rich Eisen show in 2021 Palmer made the following comment.... “Sky’s the limit,” Palmer said. “If you put a list together of the most physically talented players to ever play the position, I don’t know who else is on that list, but (Allen) sure is. He might be at the top of it.” Josh further blossomed under the guidance of Brian Daboll, former Bills OC and current head coach of the Giants.

If you want an example of a QB with arguably the best mechanics and pure arm talent, check him out. Note: By pure arm talent I mean his pure arm strength and accuracy when his feet are planted. Josh Allen and Mahomes have cannons, but they also build this through their athleticism. @7:35, Brandon Beane addressed that, he said he watched years of his film & his comp % isn’t really indicative of his play. Beane said a lot of his incompletions were throwaways, and playing in Wyoming also comes with lower level offensive weapons…that stadium was constructed as a wind tunnel (I’m not sure if that was intentional tho haha) and stats don’t show you all the times he should’ve been sacked but was able to evade and turn the play into positive yardage (which he still does today). Beane’s way too nice to ever say this, but Allen also didn’t have the high level of coaching that other QB prospects had since childhood (professional football camps & exposure to scouts). Wyoming was the very first time he actually received professional level coaching, so imagine what NFL coaching could do. It was definitely a risk, but thankfully the Bills saw that the positive far outweighed the negative…and thank god for that cuz it was really depressing to be a Bills fan 🤣

He is quick, agile, accurate, strong, durable, and can hurdle and stiff arm 300lb dudes who tackle for a living. And he just keeps getting better. A lot of QBs have been great a certain aspects of the game throughout history, but none as well rounded as Allen.

I'm from Wyoming and saw Allen play in person a few times in college and watched most other games of his on TV, and his problem was never the physical skills, I think his main problem was his physical skills grew faster than his football IQ, that's just my own personal observations though as someone who has watched him from his early days at Wyoming until now

Makes sense. He plays like he believes he can do anything and make every throw. Football is a team sport and when you ask players to do to much themselves then they look like the problem. It will be interesting to see how he does this year overall. The week 1 disaster against the jets should have reminded him. He’s been stellar since

Between the second and third season, he went out and worked with jordan palmer, who's a great quarterback trainer, And he did things like having throw on sand so he wouldn't maintain his balance.. Also, he got his entire body, throwing motion, digitally mapped and had to learn a whole new throwing mechanic. Because he was just using his arm now. He uses his whole body and waste when he can, you know, remember to Do that, but you really notice it. When hes running through his left and he stops. Resets his Body, so his left foot is forward And lets it rip very accurately... And the touch that he's learned to put on the soft passes Is out of this world nowadays... Sorry that's my guy, I live in buffalo I can tell you where he lives but I won't...

He does things nobody can do in the most violent sport on earth, I’d sure as f hope you’re impressed. Dude is a QB who often times is the biggest guy on the field that can jump over 6ft corners, stiff arm 300lb linemen and smash 250lb linebackers….and throw a ball 60 yards on a rope. He doesn’t make sense.

It’s not all that surprising that he took some extra time to develop when you consider all the playing time he missed out on by not starting as a freshman or sophomore in high school and only facing 2A competition to start college. Dudes a stud though.

The last couple of years feels like we are in the QB renaissance for the NFL. For YEARS we had so many sub par QBs it made you wonder how the league managed to survive. For every Manning, Brees and Brady there were guys like Kyle Orton, Chad Henne, Jason Campbell, Terrelle Pryor, EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Matt Hasselbeck. Even the better QBs in the league weren't exciting. If you got fired up by QBs like Tony Romo, Joe Flacco, Ryan Tannehill and Matt Ryan then you were just desperate.

This was cool. A little more info for you. Wyoming is not a big time college. It is not unusual for schools to rescind offers to players that are not highly recruited. Allens last year at wyoming was bad partly because the very few good players they had the year before, graduated. Allens rookie year in the NFL was doomed. He wasnt even supposed to start. He got thrown in at halftime because the starter threw like 5 int in the first 1/2. The Bills had no talent on offense in 2018 and out of the 10 offensive starters around Allen, they only kept 1 as a starter for the following season. You guys really should watch his highlights. They are incredible!!

Big Wyoming football fan here. Wyoming really has not been a truly relevant college football program since the 80s. It's the sad truth. Allen's prestige has actually helped recruiting at my old school, the future is bright.
