Will Changes At DCF Turn Things Around For Children In Foster Care?

Governor Baker introduced a new set of reforms to the Department of Children and Families yesterday, including major technology upgrades to improve communication between foster parents and the department, hiring more social workers, and several new recruiters to bring on new foster families. The change follows several years of trouble at the department, including budget cuts, a drop in foster homes as families grew frustrated, and high-profile deaths of young people in state custody. To discuss, Jim Braude was joined by Secretary of Health & Human Services Marylou Sudders, and Peter MacKinnon, president of the local chapter of SEIU Local 509, which represents DCF’s social workers.

Dcf needs to go into the circular file system forever. Not working, unfixable, waste of tax money.

Probably not. Ct dcf had to overhaul their system in the 1990’s but problems still remain. They continue to fail to protect the children in their care

They need way less money funneled into them not, more. Terrible failure stemming from a nice thought, but not reality. You can't "save" kids without violating the family's rights. People truly need to decide , do you really need the government involved in every single aspect of life, under the guise of safety and protection, or do you value your constitutional rights as an American.? Which is it? "Safety" or freedom. People need to choose now.

I agree there needs to be reform. Safety is more important than freedom especially when it comes to children because no one is advocating for them. Children are abused and neglected causing them to not be functional members of society and then become a victim to other problems with society as an adult, such as poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, etc. If a child is being abuse or neglect their rights are being taken away from them so in turn so should the family's. If you cannot take care of your child and in turn causing trauma your rights then you end up with people in your business. I work with children who have been in and out of foster care, and no I do not work for DCF or a state agency. There is so much flaw with the system but what I have heard kids go through at home is unimaginable and I see the impacts of it on their behavior and health.
