AIs are indeed at an early stage to be able to replace humans at work or especially at their expertise. Right now, what' being offered is the ability to increase productivity both with chat bots like chat GPT or like image generators such as Bluewillow.

I personally believe that this whole AI thing is just a panic attack from the world, yeah it's getting really good, but on the other hand, phones were also a massive worry, and now everyone uses one.

@@DiversionG - look up the works of the university of Leiden in the Netherlands together with Tencent. They are already pretty far into that matter and their fully automated cucumbers are already cheaper to produce (in running cost - the initial investment is still huge since it is all purpose built and experimental) than conventional ones. They just drop the plant seedlings at the greenhouse entry and the grown fruit get dumped on the other side with nothing but some technicians supervising the machines.

Mnnn not really, I don't think phones is comparable to AI which has the potential to learn. They call them smart phones but it in the end is just a dumb tool that doesn't have the capacity to become sentient.

@@EyFmS I'm not comparing smartphones to AI, I'm comparing the sheer panic they both caused/are causing to people. Smartphones haven't ruined humanity or socialising like many thought it would (most likely), and AI isn't going to take over the world.

​@@Beautiful_Twisted_Fantasy Well it all depends on the use, smartphones have definitely impacted socialising and erode it....just look at the interaction of people in public places or even at home while having dinner. It will probably not take over the world (right now) but make alot of people obsolete, what are we gonna do with all those soon to be unemployed people. Right now governments aren't taking care of people living in dire conditions and their numbers are getting higher and certainly the private sector won't either....so what will they do with the future masses? Most probably we will be reduced to a lower number, which isn't necessairly a bad thing unless we become close to extinction. I think we need to be extra careful with this and not let hedonism get in the way, it might be our downfall.

AI, specifically ChatGPT, but not just it, are really cool and interesting, but all it’s actually doing is predicting the next word it’s going to say, very similar to what mobile keyboards already do. Again, really cool, but there’s no real need to worry about an “AI takeover” when the AI in question is basically pulling words out of a hypothetical hat and seeing if it makes sense in context to what it is/has been talking about and/or what the user has asked

it was never about takeover but copying human emotions and there are still a lot of black boxes in LLMs so we can't just pretend LLMs are the same as complex ML algorithms that use stats to complete the next word the stats come in to help the DL model to be more proficient, but we are yet to understand how it works but of course you can always not care about the math that is involve and just think it's a program like most computer scientist do but hey they love stealing the work of mathematicians/Physicists and pretend they know how it works. Complex ML algorithms in your phone can be reproduced DL behavior is much harder to reproduce thus why we are not in consensus.

Personally, I think AI is way too easily biased. AI learn from their surroundings, and if they see anything, they will learn from that. Including falsehood. They have a hard time fact checking because, after all, they are always learning. However, unlike people, the AI sees every source of info equal, so it would be immensely difficult to code it to fact check, but it could be done. AI at the moment mostly can't tell from truth to false, and it needs a lot of work.
