People always focus on the top end tech chips. The real market is the production of the chips you find in cars and appliances. The older not so technical chips make up most of the market. China will take over this market due to the cheaper prices of chips. This older more mature chip market is what makes up most of the revenue in the microchip market. If Chinese companies swallow up this market then there will be no research and development money for the Western chip makers.

Now China is the biggest producer for almost every industrial products of the world. The US keeps doing the same thing over & over again, and expects different results.
