While it is true Greg that the message regarding food storage has not been repeated as much as of late, it certainly has not been 20 years since it was reiterated. "Some Church members opine that emergency plans and supplies, food storage, and 72-hour kits must not be important anymore because the Brethren have not spoken recently and extensively about these and related topics in general conference. But repeated admonitions to prepare have been proclaimed by leaders of the Church for decades. The consistency of prophetic counsel over time creates a powerful concert of clarity and a warning volume far louder than solo performances can ever produce.” Bednar 2020

Growing up when things were tight we supplemented with food storage. I have two buddies doing something similar now. I live close enough to fire prone and earthquake areas that 72 hours kits are clearly wise counsel. If some see food storage/emergency as 2nd coming prep that's fine, but its pragmatic advice for living in general.

The reason some of those extreme durations have not been openly taught is that (from my understanding) some governments banned those extreme preparation times because they were fearful of citizen uprisings and they not being able to control people through food shortages. So, to abide by those laws, they had to "tone it down" or speak more ambiguously as others have shared via the Bednar quote. I personally have lived off my food storage during times of unemployment.

Not sure of Pastor Jeff's motives but we need to give people the benefit of the doubt. Just because he doesn't agree with the LDS church entirely doesnt mean he isn't a good person. I feel as President Nelson has stated, we as LDS members are the people who need to prepare the world for the 2nd coming. However I feel millions of other good Christians around the world will play a part as well. We certainly have more in common as Christians and need to work together to spread the gospel and hope to the world. We are all in this together ❤

15:49 really funny little story about “prepping”. In late 2019, I was a part of the Daybell/Vallow Facebook group trying to bring attention to the missing kids Well, on this Facebook group there were a handful do people who didn’t know any Latter-day Saints, so they thought we were really weird, and in their minds the church was connected with Chad Daybell and his spiral. Super dumb. Someone started a comment thread about how crazy and weird those “mormons” were for keeping a food supply or storage…a lot of latter-day saints in the group corrected and pushed back on it, we were torn apart in the comments for how stupid we were, and how the pepper mentality was harmful. I left the group because of this… And I find this all really funny because what happened in 2020? Everyone was buying up the toilet paper, and food all over the country. My mom even said she had some Facebook friends in Utah complaining about “all those stupid Mormons” buying all of the toilet paper only to have several Latter Day Saints comment and offer to share some of their toilet paper from their supply they’ve had stored away. 😂

@pdnwy 18 күн бұрын
I live in Rexburg where that evil demon Chad did what he did. Stupid that there were some insane opinions thrown around about the church when it was quite obvious Chad had taken things his own direction far beyond church doctrine. Also insane that toilet paper was flying off shelves when all I had to do to get free toilet paper was go through a drive through & ask for extra napkins with my order. 😂 Also most conservative Mormons were still out living life & ignoring COVID for the most part. We definitely weren’t the ones hoarding toilet paper! 😂

And prepping is never stupid. Preppers are always called stupid till something happens & everybody wants what they have. 😂 if everybody just mildly prepped for times of hardship, no one would ever find themselves on the stupid end of a catastrophe at the mercy of others who decided to be smart.

If you watch the recently released "Homestead" movie (by Angel Studios) that's a central undercurrent/conflict. Anyone who thinks the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints no longer emphasizes preparedness and food storage has not looked up the topic on the church’s website! All the old teachings are still there along with lots more helpful information including specific counsel by area. Instead of stating how many years of food storage we should have it says that after accumulating a 3 months supply of food we are used to eating we should acquire as much of the original basics as we can! My husband and I are the preparedness people called in our Utah ward. One of the first things we did is to survey where the people in our ward were at presently. We were not shocked but were dismayed to learn that among the active people who showed up at church over 2-3 weeks, only 10% have a year’s supply of food they could actually live on independently.

President Nelson has taught recently that preparing physically and to not stop preparing like they did in the book of morning is just as important as the spiritual preparation. There are prob more LDS peppers now than ever before. It’s still a very much alive concept because we have had so many natural disasters and the world in general has caught on to prepping because of it.

There is a revival towards God/Christ going on right now. I see God working in the lives of so many, leading them to a deeper and more contemplative prayer practice. That sometimes includes an organized religion and it often doesn’t. Inside the walls of a church can be a perfect place to hide from God. Just because we practice a religion, doesn’t mean we are having a transcendent experience with God. I pray that God continues to pour his spirit on all, whether in the walls of a formal church or not. And may we all draw closer to each other in Christ.

When it comes to preparedness, I live in the path of Helene, about an hour SE of Ashville... we made it through because I had SKILLS, not just supplies. Someone can steal your supplies, your cooking equipment, etc. - they can't take your skills. If worst came to worst, I knew we could start foraging edible plants 😂 I still have a lot more to learn - when preparedness was more commonly spoken of, these skills were more common. We also used to have more connected communities, so people could support each other and fill in the gaps for others. To me, preparedness has to include community, friends, family on a local level. When the power was out, trees blocking the majority of the roads, we couldn't even drive over to help other ward members. Lack of gasoline, too. So we checked on our neighbors! We knew people that lost their whole house, and lots of people north of us watched entire homes float by... goodbye to any food storage 😢 skills, mental clarity, Holy Spirit guidance, and community are huge when it comes to survival in the biggest calamities.

I love that part at the end about the treatment of the LGBTQ community; 'stop being jerks'. I couldn't agree more. Like Elder Uchtdorf recounted several years ago about a biker on a Harley wearing a shirt that said something like, "Don't look down on me because I sin differently that you do." Why should we single out that sin as being worse than others? Sure, premeditated murder is the worst. Single that one out. But have compassion for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. They go through a rough time. I one who has somewhat opened up to me on what she has gone through since she was very young. Like 10 years old. She has very much struggled with it. She has had people say rude things about gay people in front of her, not knowing her struggle. She has felt that local church leaders have had firesides targeted at her and a few of her friends. Of course they need to be blunt about the details of the law of chastity, I have no problem with that. But it needs to be done in a loving way so that those kids who struggle with it don't feel ostracized, that they know they are loved, included, and that there is always room for them, even if they mess up and give in to these powerful feelings. They need to know that they have not 'failed' as human beings, but that they have given in to something that won't lead them to the best God has for them, and will always be welcomed, despite their flaws that are not necessarily more severe, but likely just different, than those others are dealing with.

At 15:32 my mom still is one of those doomsday preppers, sge literally has food stashed everywhere. Under her bed, in her closet, in the kitchen living room etc. She like a lot of members from the 1980s have food storage that they bought in the 1980s. Its no good when you stuff it in places youll never get to till 30 years later and you have the entire Elders Quorum packing your stuff to find roaches got it 20 years ago. I do believe in reasonable food storage but it has to be rotated once a year or however its mentenally edible because i know if rice is 10 years old, im not eating it. At 17:19, i find it interesting that there is disagreements on the millenial reign. There is a scripture somewhere that says there will come a time when the saints will cry day and night for deliverance. I believe this will cause the Saviour's return, He comes to a people that want Him. Unfortunately when Babylon is doing well we are comfortable. Only when Babylon falls and the desperation we will have as the beast will reign and make life a living horror for the saints, that in itself will cause Christians to unite in prayer and have the Saviour to come and save us. In reality the saints should of abandoned Babylon along time ago and established Zion as the Lord commanded us. If you are not relying on Babylon for your survival then it dose not matter to you when it falls, life will continue as normal and it will be of no affect. But if you totally rely on it with no back up your going to suffer when society collapses. Money can be worth nothing overnight. Change it to food a years supply for instance and you don't go into panic mode. Give yourself time to think of a plan or it might weather the storm a bridge untill society resumes normality. I have been made redundant having a years supply of food and six months of money for bills bridged a gap and gave me time to get back on my feet. We call it the pride cycle, but when the muck hits the fan I believe many will return and I believe God allows us to suffer when the system we support fails then wanting the basics we call on His name. These big churches offers ease by saying you only need faith nothing else is required, despite faith is an action, see James 2:18. As latter day saints we believe in agency or free will. If you go back to Sodom and Gomorrah and listen to the conversation Lot had with God, Lot said if there were ten righteous people in this city would you destroy it? God said no he would not, why? Because people would still have agency, the tree and Satan in the garden was in opposition to God allowing Adam and Eve agency to choose between the two. When Lot left Sodom there were no righteous people left therefore the up coming generations would only know evil, and not good. That's why God destroyed it as no opposition no agency. I believe at some point the wicked will cast out the righteous from among them. If we cannot offer the alternative then they have sealed there own doom as we can no longer reach them. In revelation 18:4 it says; 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. That's very similar to what God said to Lot, we will eventually become that bad. Therefore God will end the telestial world. Jeff right idols do have to be taken down, good show guy's gets you thinking!

If we're to follow the pattern shown in Helaman and 3rd Nephi, there's plenty of persecution there prior to Christ's coming. And while many think a cataclysmic event happens and Christ immediately shows up, a careful perusal of 3 Nephi shows a passage of years between that cataclysm and appearance of Christ. And Elder Bednar has said that we should not look at the Book of Mormon as a historical document as much as a training manual for what is to come. It WAS written for our day.
