WIll Duct Tape Kill A Tree?

In order to myth bust, all the tree-killing ideas that are online I have done several experiments over the course of 2 years to test what actually kills trees and what doesn't.
I came across an idea for killing trees where you cover the top of the tree with a plastic bag and tape it at the bottom. I thought why not just duct tape the whole tree stump and see if that works.

People want to know because we have a BRANCH to repair, not the entire tree.

of course not. does not make any sense. Now if you cut the tree down to the stump it may die anyway even without the duct tape.
