I dunno if anyone has already said this, but for the cutscene parts, you can hold X or A depending on your console, to skip the whole thing. The transition is still a bit slow but it's still faster than waiting for it to fully play out 👍🏻

exactly! I am all for competition! Right now I'ma with 2k23 but I will be keeping a close eye out on what updates and patches EA provides over the next 1-2 months and will highly likely purchase especially with EA provides for career mode as I do enjoy grinding and seeing my player becoming better and better gradually

Really good review. I have played hundreds of hours of 2k23 and after a few days with EA game it most fits what I want in a golf game. Its far from perfect but with time I feel most things will get addressed and fixed.

Good vid! FYI, for Career Mode EA said there was an issue with the 1-3 full rounds setting pre-launch, so they disabled it temporarily and will add it back in a future update.

Great video, thank you! I love both games. Can see myself playing both regularly. A few things EA should do tho....1) make hitting the meter more difficult on the highest difficulty, I personally don't see much difference between settings 2) Let you see your club distances when you preview the hole on "Simulation" difficulty (w/o all the aids disabled it's really hard to know what club to use if you don't have your distances memorized) 3) fix the endless loop you get in when collecting rewards that's forces you to restart the game. Really fun game though....like you my expectations were not real high yet I'm having a ton of fun playing the game....every mode too, career, online tourneys, quickplay, online head to head....it's all really good IMO.

My brother and friend play 2k23 every Friday at the same house and during the week we set up private matches. With EA, we got together yesterday at the same house and it was horrible to play private match (as you point out - only strokeplay and only the host can be a pro and no turn order). We did local quickplay and the 2 biggest, glaring issues are 1 - Local QuickPlay is set up where there is no controller assignment - that means everyone has to swing with right stick or left stick. I swing left and the other 2 swing right stick. 2 - With no controller assignment, each person can hit the x button and the other golfer will address the ball and the person is locked out from doing anything until they tell the other guy to hit th o button to release it Our solution was to play with two TVs and two PS5s, where I would play left stick swing and they played on the other TV with right swing stick. It was tough to make sure both TVs had the same settings as we played different courses. With private match, there is no way for the host to set the difficulty settings for everyone - each invited person uses their own settings, which means we can't make sure everyone is playing with the same difficulty settings. Personally, I love the game mechanics, but we just want to play with the pros (which we can do in private match) and couch local quick play is horrible because there is no controller assignments.

Great review. Spot on. EA took me a bit but I will say the more i play the game the more rewarding it feels at times. To me, the courses play more like in real life with risk/reward. Recovery isn't always super easy despite the percent lie issue. The ball mechanics blow 2k out of the water. But for community, creativity, customization it's 2k. Praying EA nails ranked in the future.

This game is definitely challenging, even with easier settings turned on. Just finished grinding to buy Dustin Johnson's driver spec this morning for $18k. I applied it before I left for work and saw it gave me +6 in yards. Putting is frustrating but overall rewarding. I'm still hitting my driver swing slow between 1-2%, no matter which swing tempo I choose. Looking forward to a 3-click swing method.

The graphics, announcers and overall presentation is great. The gameplay is a lot of fun! Reminding me of Tiger 11 one of my favorite games. There are some glitches. I hit into a couple imaginary trees. Some of the green readings are off!! Those things can get fixed. Enjoying the game though. If anything I hope this makes 2k step up their presentation and graphics on their game.

Im 250+hrs into 2k and about 8 with EA. Love the career mode but the swing is so slow compared to what in used too lol. The tournaments in ea are great, and i enjoy the tgc tours, but daily/weekly/season long events is a W in my mind. I have 2 issues; no weather aside from wind. And the swing creator. In TW07 you could practically build your swing from scratch. (Pretty sure it was 07). Courses are beautiful. I really hope they dont abandon this game like Rory. I’ve heard many say the swing mechanics seems slow but what is more concerning is the input delay. I’m on PS5 and my settings are correct(plus no other games affected). Pulling back on the stick and waiting for my golfer to do so…..ugh. Still having fun, great video!

Phenominal breakdown of absolutely everything...I've been spending a day doing my own one of these, the project has now been deleted in Davinci, it aint needed as this is the most I've ever agreed and shared the EXACT same points with someone, OVER PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING. Like yourself, the more time I invest in it, the more enjoyment I'm getting from it. I'm a having a bunch of fun even with the weaker areas of the game which I dislike. I can deal with most things and have learnt to adapt to EA's way of setting the game up, the only thing that will drive me away is this disappointing putting system and the broken grid bead system...that sucker gonna send me to the nut house I guarantee. I absolutely hated this game for a day, the physics, ball rolls, ridiculous broken putting beads (Everyone in comments telling me "you're a crap putter, you putt to hard, you putt to soft, you fastest it, your not good spec'd high enough") etc etc lol. If they can fix that alone, I'd probably end up playing EA PGA Tour more than 2k23 at the moment, and I play 2k23 ONE HELL OF A LOT. I think both golf games can exist in the same space too. We've never had a perfect golf game to be fair but we now have two very good ones competing against each other in the space we love which could be very important for us golf lovers moving forward. If EA get back to releasing year in year out like we had from the early 2000's to 2012, the future looks good for us videogolf lovers.

Thanks a lot for this - really in depth look and honest opinion. By the sounds of it they’ve rushed it a bit to release for the Masters and it needs some decent patching/tweaks but potential is there. Career mode is the real sell for me and it sounds pretty great, though I think I’ll leave it until they’ve sorted the number of rounds function - like you I usually do 2 per tournament on 2K so disappointing that’s not in from release. Lack of 60fps also disappointing given it has been built exclusively for the new consoles. Having said that the visuals are leagues ahead of 2K and that plus career mode, all the majors and a fondness for the old Tiger games makes me want to pick this up!

I fully subscribe to a lot you say here. One thing though: I feel that the tempo and power interact with your swing plane: I have a feeling that if you hit a perfect swing plane, tempo and power interact to give you longer (or shorter) ball flight, yet perfectly on target. This feeling is somewhat confirmed by the fact that if you hit a perfectly overpowered and fasted drive, you get this 'explosion' animation in the game. Overall, the game is more about 'feel' and pre-shot decisions than executing precise mechanics (which is obviously much more important in 2K), which suits me fine personally but may not be liked by everyone... If only they would fix the draw/fade as you describe perfectly...

Hi Respawn - great review. I am sitting on the fence, but your video fleshed some of the issues out for me. I've been watching heaps of players, and the one thing that did strike me initially is that not one player hooked or sliced a shot, either off the tee or approach shots to the green. Every shot was pretty much in the fairway off the tee ?? Theres that dispersion area for the shots but 2K is a lot harder in that respect. I dont see any stats for the rounds? I dont see anywhere to save your best shots ?? Anyway - thanks again, I'm still not sure but I guess I might give it a go and see what happens, people seem to be enjoying it. Cheers Doug

My largest issue so far is the randomness. As you said even if you hit all mechanics well it will randomly just go wherever it wants. So frustrating. Yes it might be more “realistic” but I shouldn’t be punished at random when my actually skills are on point. It’s still a game and I feel like I have no way to truly improve.

Hi I really enjoyed your video I have the game and it was so cool to play it while the actual masters was being played.i play Dual Universe and found it real handy while I was doing a long haul mission to switch over to EA and play the golf.But here come the bad part while I agree with you the game has all the classic things we love,but after the Easter break I haven't been able to play there was an update I'm not sure if that was the problem.I just hope they fix it real quick cheers keep them coming your good at it.

Brilliant analysis. I played my 10 hour trial today and your analysis was pretty much everything I observed. I ended up buying the game as I will enjoy both games for different reasons. I hope EA patch their cameras, give is much more camera flexibility as you pointed out. And revamp the clumsy UI. But if I were to give the new game a score out of 10, I would say 8/10 with the potential to go to a straight 10.

Good review, really hope they prioritise the 60fps patch, give us more camera options. EA PGA Tour is a fantastic golf game that's more on the simulation side than 2K. One of the developers said you'll be able to select single rounds instead of 4 for career tournaments very soon. It was already in the game, they had to remove it due to a bug.

For anyone really who’s interested in the dispersion of the game versus real life, check out the DECADE system. Essentially in real life even the best players have a shotgun dispersion, not a sniper rifle. And even the best players don’t know which shot is coming out each time they swing. So this ‘random’ dispersion based on timing (poor swing means bigger dispersion) is really accurate and something very appealing. I didn’t like how you could ‘red fast’ in 2K and know which side you’d miss on, as this doesn’t happen IRL.

It’s all the screen clutter putting me off. Worked out how to get rid of the blue lines and white swing lines but all those icons at the bottom do my head in. Wish the green grid lines would go when I hit the putt as well.

Best review so far - agree completely with you. Although because (for me) the swing mechanics, cameras, control, precision, etc. massively outweigh the career options and graphics, I'm sticking with 2k. Fundamentally EA just doesn't play as well.

Been playing video golf since Leaderboard on the Commadore 64 computer. Played this yesterday on my sons PS5. Looks like I will be getting a PS5, for EA golf and RE4 remake.

FPS was a HUGE game changer. I’m on PC and it was auto-locked at 30. Played like 10 rounds with it on and it felt clunky. Found the FPS setting, set it to Unlocked and it’s 1000x more playable. But yeah to the points of UI, feature sets, playability bugs………. It’s EA and this is the first golf game they’ve ever put out in the age of being able to update after release (not counting Rory….that was a stepping stone). They’re going to update the hell out of this game for years to come and it will not be the same game. Plus, the game is literally JUST launching today. It’ll likely see a couple round of updates over the next couple of weeks, but some content updates in months to come. I’m super excited! 2K is still a great game, but it is more of a SIM…. EA is very close to that, but still more for the playability aspect and less of the “if I don’t pure this shot, it’s going 30yds right” frustration that casuals won’t enjoy.

A lot of what you say about the swing mechanic changes as your players skills improve. If you play with one of the pro golfers it’s way more responsive to what you’re intention is. And yes the ball will stop on the rim I’ve done it me then I’d like.

EA is banking on Masters nuts buying this game. Both games are good in the ways you pointed out. I feel in my opinion that EA has you thinking around the course more as far as what type of shots to hit. Granted I've only got about 7 hours put into this game as of today so I haven't had a chance to get really in depth like most have already. But I like what I see so far

Surprised to hear you didn’t point “Ball Spin” a major difference in game play for both games…EA has kept the basic skeleton from Tiger Woods ‘14. changing spin directions in flight vs setting up backspin/roll pre-ball strike…makes a difference in the game play approach…I may give this a try at some point but thanks for the review…Football needs competition like this…keep up the good work and get well

At 9:57 I was wondering if you were gonna talk about the bug that's in that chipping challenge. When I chip it on to the green in that challenge it doesn't give you any stars for chipping it on to the green. Kinda funny but they really need to fix that. I hope a patch is coming out soon.

Make sure you are using the chip type shot. I did the same thing cause the game defaults the shot to pitch. So if you don’t change it, it will not count.

Great Review. 60 fps mode is going to be rough to do, because rtx 3090 custom water-cooled system is barely maintaining 60 fps @ 1440p on alot of courses... Hope it's just not very optimized and a patch is in development to stabilize the framerate.. there is no dlss or fsr for pc players atm either. Maybe a rtx 4090 can do 4k 60 native... No idea how they going to have ps5 and xbsx doing 60 fps and keep it looking crisp @ 4k.

Yeah I watched a video of a guy playing on a rtx 4090 and from the tee box they were around 80 fps avg. In the fairway around 90-100. On the green over 100 fps.. For a golf game that's not very optimized 😂 Either way that's going to be interesting how they increase fps cap to 60 on the consoles soon and maintain that 4k res. I love golf either way so looks like I will be calling EK for a new 4090 water block soon, because with EA's track record, I am not holding my breath for dlss or a patch on pc that has meaningful performance improvements for the rtx 3000 series cards, even though they are way more powerful than those toy consoles... 🤟

Anyone know how to set it up so 2 players can play casual together..same house..two controllers...but one player using left stick to swing and the other using right stick to swing. It keeps changing both players when you change it in the player profile. So far I'm not impressed.
