I can see why he would have thought it might flop. It's one of those movies that is extraordinarily well-written, but could have easily been a flop if not for having the PERFECT cast every step of the way. Fortunately, the cast was beyond perfect!

I mean, in the end Caan is totally right. Will is so completely over the top, but thats then what literally MAKES the movie. It wouldn't have worked any other way, but I get at the time filming it it seems like it might not be the right move. The movie works because of Will, which really is a testament to him.

Our local theater every Saturday in December runs an older Christmas movie and today was Elf and the movie was jam-packed. I sat next to a couple in their early 70s who had never seen the movie and laughed the entire time. It was such a joy to see people enjoying this movie as much as they did 15 years ago. And I think the burp scene is everyone's favorite scene.
