When I read through the lovely comments on here it makes my heart glad. All these folks rooting for a young man we’ve never met but who we want to be happy, with his cat and his lovely cottage and all the outbuildings. You're doing such a great job fixing up your new home. As for the satellite dish, consider making it into a cat bed, attached to the wall by the mounting bracket. If it's a Starlink Dish, you maybe able to wire it to provide heat in the dish itself for a comfortable kittie experience.

I know, I live on a busy city street near a fire and police station, so I hear all the sirens when they drive out, and all the traffic. I love my place and I'm grateful, but I would run away and live in one of Jude's cupboards in a heartbeat. Just for some peace and quiet. Long ago when I was young, I had a place out in the countryside and I loved it, but I had a divorce and had to leave the house and property behind. At least I had it for a few years.

Just a little tip, next time you remove a plant from it's pot and the roots are as crowded as the strawberry plants were, just gently manipulate the roots loose with your finger tips, so they can break out of the root ball, and spread out. How lovely to use your dad’s gardening tools. We have my mum’s garden spade which is over thirty years old now , a lightweight one which I tend to use most. When my dad had his heart attack many years ago, dad took over the baking and cooking 💕, whilst mum did the garden, hence the lightweight spade dad got for her. Just a thought Jude, when you are preparing an outdoor bonfire, don’t stack it up days or weeks before, do it when you are about to set fire to it. At this time of year hedgehogs are hibernating in this sort of woodpile and many lose their lives to the fire and they are already getting short in numbers. Loving the weekly vlogs by the way and love seeing Sven too!

I'm an old lady now. Every time I lose one of by kitty babies, I think "That's all my heart can take, I'm not getting another cat." But then somehow a cat finds me instead. I have a kitty now that someone abandoned where I was living before, and I just had to take care of him. That's how it happens. If you don't go get a cat, one is bound to come get you.

When transplanting, if the roots are going round and round in the pot, you need to tease them out a bit or they will continue to grow around and the plant won’t do as well as it could. Long time gardener here 😉

Yes, my garden helper does this, in fact she's harsh with the root ball and splits it up a lot. But the plants thrive on it. I used to wince. But I'm over that now.

Put it on a small stone berm near your raised beds. Plants strawberries / herbs , etc. in small pockets in the stones. Place the dish on top. Make sure it will hold water. Fill with pretty rounded rocks & crystals , etc. Can create a miniature garden with a few potted flowers , twigs, moss etc Lay the rocks to form landscape. Can have pond or river ! Layer 3-4 layers of rock. Adding potted plants as you go. When finished, fill with water to bottom of top layer of rock. You just made a bee , butterfly, hummingbird water garden. They sir on the rocks, rest & can drink their fill. Refill when you water the garden. These amazing pollinators will visit your garden frequently for your great resting , watering paradise. You can remove the connection if you want. I would keep it. Could use as a small trellis; sign post for a cute sign you could make; hang a twig/ vine wreath, add or change each season, with all natural items from your land. In winter if you cover it , have it as a feeding station for the birds. Add suet & fruit to the wreath Refresh a container of water daily, they to will thank you & bless you all winter. When Spring arrives, it goes back to the pollinators. 😊🦋🐝🐞🌱 ❄️🐦‍⬛🐦❄️😊 A gift to them & you ! Happiest of Holidays from Alaska, USA. 🙏🤗

No one ever finishes in time for Christmas, so don’t worry about it. Most real homes are messy with Christmas baking, mom is way behind with wrapping and food preparation, the floor needs washing ( or at least sweeping!) and chaos rules! At least that’s the way it is in my world. I loved your video Jude, a bit of country calm amid the commercial insanity of large cities. I’m grateful to live in a smallish town, but even here the traffic is mad. After 2 trips to Scotland, I’d move there in a heartbeat if it didn’t mean leaving my loved ones behind. I lost my mum to Alzheimer’s at the end of last year. She was 94 & I miss her each & every day. Just know that there’s a whole raft of people out here rooting for you. I have 2 cats (Greedy Benny & his sister Misty, & a rescue Jackshund Penny) they bring much joy as Sven does to you. Hugs Bonny lad xx

Take some time during the winter to learn about the different plants on your property- both beneficial and invasive. Then make a plan to prune everything now and come spring. Trees-trim them high enough off the ground that you can mow under them. Check fertilizer/epsom salt needs of shrubs. Your property has come so far already. Also investigate that open shed for possible use as a garage. I admire your tenacity to build a life for yourself. I see solar, canning and freezing in your future with your garden.

Thanks for showing the bonfire. I really had hoped to light a fire on Solstice just as the sun was setting but it was so cold here in Chicago that I was just monitoring the chickens to make sure my girls would be warm enough thru the night. Watching that little moment has wrapped up my weekend and all the baking. Now I need to wrap! Glad to see the new improved door sweep to keep out the cold.

Beautiful moment at 14:55. There is something absolutely primal about standing mesmerised by a fire outside on a winter's night. It is one of my very favourite things (in quite a short list) about winter. Captured here perfectly. I'm also very taken with the lights on the eaves along the front of the cottage. It's just right.
