The GMO stuff really trips my trigger. As an Ag. Management student, I realize that every time someone crossed 2 strains of wheat to get a bigger yield, or 2 breeds of hogs to get less fat, you have created a GMO. Humans have been selectively crossing plant varieties for tens of thousands of years, and selectively breeding animals for thousands of years, as such, there is virtually no food products anywhere in the world that are not GMOs. If you outlaw GMOs, we all starve.
@JustaFewAcresFarm3 жыл бұрын
Genetically modified organisms are significantly different from traditional cross-breeding. GMO's are created by splicing genes in a laboratory from other plants, animals, bacteria, etc. These genetic qualities could not be achieved via cross-breeding. I do not believe we would all starve if GMO's were eliminated, but I do believe there are a lot of entrenched interests that would like us to believe that.
@joshk.62463 жыл бұрын
@@JustaFewAcresFarm OMG yeah how do people Not know the difference between GMO and cross-breeding ( Hybridization ). Hurts my brain. I explain this to people at work all the time. It's ironic in the "information age" how folks are just so uninformed for so many things.
@schmuckpuppet48423 жыл бұрын
GMO's are also a way to control the global food supply and monopolize the markets. GMO's can be trademarked and as such become property of some multinational corporation, while the community becomes dependent on a cheap source of food. This cheap food pushes out the more expensive organic food, as Pete already explained. In some cases the GMO's only work in tandem with particular herbicides or pesticides so that farmers ultimately become dependent on those too. That;'s when the food supply gets entangled in a global web of interdependencies which is virtually impossible to get out of. A corollary to the phenomenon of GMO's is the way in which agriculture has become mechanized. The only way for farmers to compete in the market is by mass producing single crops which leads to monoculture. In the meantime, the farmers have to borrow from the bank in order to play the game. Most farmers don't own their own land, equipment, housing, and in the case of GMO's, not even their own crops! The whole point about organic and locally produced food is that you create an economy that is not dependent on outside forces. If you haven't figured out by now that globalism is a scourge, then you probably never will. Control over the food supply is a communist wet dream. Henry Kissinger famously once said: “Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world.”

I get why people ask those questions about GMO,they're afraid of the chemicals. I particularly care about that in my vegetables. So many things can be considered GMO.I am a very small farmer,but for my family only.I do not sell publically. When I buy from others my concern is mainly pesticides. I have Parkinsons,most likely from the pesticides my family sprayed on our crops in the sixties and seventies(we had a huge farm). If I buy from someone else I always ask if they've used pesticides directly and if they haven't I'm fine with that. I don't use use pesticides and I call my products homegrown and most people are fine with that. I'm always glad to see your videos and happy that the market goes well. It is the best way of life to buy directly from the farmers.
