Good effort this week. I am so glad you are adding a turbo to that Diesel Landy engine because otherwise you would hate it. It would be soo slow mate. Driving on the National Highways if you are in a slow vehicle it is so dangerous with the impatient drivers all wanting to get past. This way you should be able to travel at the National speed limit up long hills and inclines. Also glad you are making a lightweight because weight is the enemy in a light truck. I wish you luck at keeping it under 4.5 GVM though BUT if anyone can do it you will. Kudos to Mrs Jeff keeping us entertained especially with the bloopers at the end. Top work guys. Cheers..

Nice and interesting build. That is a good idea to take the cab of an old but iconic truck and marry it to a modern chassis. I've seen this being done on another channel and the finished truck came out wonderfull. Those old 1950's, 60's.....chassis, as much as we love them, have outdated components made when road speeds were much slower and plus parts availability now is almost impossible for drive train, brakes etc. 🐞

My first reaction for the gearbox mounts would be to remake the top alloy parts in steel, would allow you to use the factory rubber mounts and crossmember and then just make one unique part to fix all the issues. Plus it's a pretty simple part.

Love the build! You can still get the factory two-piece turbo exhaust manifold from Toyota, then you just need to find a second hand turbo intake crossover pipe and your basically done with the turbo system. The turbo crossover pipe uses the same non-turbo intake manifold, all bolts up; then just add more fuel like you said.

I’m sure someone has already commented on this but…I figured I’d give my $0.02. Propane and oxygen can be used in the same way as acetylene and oxygen torches. The propane tank fittings (at least in the US and looks as if AU=same) have the same left hand internal thread as acetylene tanks. Easy enough to set up, buy/rent an oxy bottle, and torch set up from harbor freight or equivalent, (or pay the big $$ for Victor). Bada-Bing Bada-Boom. Real heat! You won’t regret the extra space taken up by it, in a small shop. I work full time from my home garage 24’x26’ and it’s worth the space it consumes.

Rules for loading in Australia are you're allowed 60% of your wheelbase hanging over the rear axle centrelines. So if your wheelbase is 4000 you can have 2400 behind the rear axle. That's fixed as part of the vehicle or load projection. Providing you don't have more than 1200mm overhanging the rear of the vehicle or 3.7m behind the rear axle. Lesser of the 3.
@MicahBell_18603 ай бұрын
Overhang is 3.7m or 60% of the wheelbase (whichever is smaller)

I think keeping the bench seat even if it is not a proper 3 seater is worth a consideration from a looks and vibe perspective. The view through the back window will be meh if not. Even if the floor has a little hump, it will still get you out of a pinch if you need the extra passenger. That and if ya wanna be clever and challenge yourself, make the middle of the back rest top half fold down so you have a middle armrest box type thing. IF it all fails? Well you have a LPG torch now to make the fabrication f***up go away ;)

@barbarahotham85333 ай бұрын
As the motor is a non turbo, you most likely need to consider an intercoller . Not sure if this is a indirect injection engine but putting a turbo on a non direct injection can cause internal overheating and ultimate major engine failure. Putting a turbo exhaust temperature gauge with an intercoller will help reduce the risk of piston /combustion damage. Have had a few friends caught with that problem. Most turbo conversion specialist are well aware of the issues now. Best of luck regards, GH.
