It's amazing how docile these parasitic predators are. the slime is a defence mechanism so they may have been frightened or annoyed when handled in the tank - but still didn't bite. they only bit a human when literally forced under extremely unnatural conditions.

And parasitic is such a strong word. They're not like a tapeworm or botfly that would use your resources and make you sick slowly without you knowing. They're just feeding on/killing other fish, which is a pretty natural thing that happens lmao. It's unfortunate that they're so demonized just because they're invasive and different than other predators we have here. (Obviously, them being an invasive species is still a huge problem. Not trying to negate that.)

They don't bite warm prey so to bite a human is unnatural to them. They bite fish, who are similar temperature to the water, not 98.6 like a human. So to them we are not a food source but a surface to latch onto if needed but not bite and feed from.
