Positive criticism from a fan but also an audio technologist ; if I’m not wrong it seems like it’s an SPL based device. Also if I’m correct I believe it seems to be simply reading the full frequency spectrum as most units designed to read spl do. If this is the case, that would explain the reactivity of the meter was indicating to me it was tied to volume, most likely calibrated around 1khz as per industry norm. If you had turned up The volume knob on the boss pedal it would have chugged. The Chug pedal hit higher on the meter because the SPL in the room was significantly higher. If you want to actually make it more of a ‘chug meter’ put a LPF in line with the input signal, adjusted for say… 600hz and below… to at least measure the thump of the chugs. Hopefully that all makes sense. With the filtered input now active, use a known rig that chugs, dial it in for a ‘good chug tone / volume in the room’, then calibrate the spl meter ‘chug meter’ to that. From there on, anytime you have another rig you want to see, will it chug, you can see if it makes it to the previous calibration mark. It’s a bit wonky of a ‘test’ but at least it would be a better meter for your use. Another solution, different but reasonable, is to maybe use the output of the microphone to pipe to a DAW plugin that displays the signal as a visual EQ / real time analyzer, and then take that EQ curve displayed in the RTA and compare it against a previous known good chug. To rephrase, use the mic to determine an average EQ curve across the full frequency for a known good chug using an RTA plugin or a EQ plugin that displays an RTA display. If an eq curve for the known good chug matches at all to the ‘chug’ currently being tested (by comparing the graphs/RTA signals) you could consider that to be a way to test chugs using graphs and meters.
