I'm pretty sure 9 out of 10 would have deemed this machine a lost cause ! Then you came along mate ! Good to see it move under its own power. 🌵

I nearly left it there myself, only that they went out of their way to leave it for me that I went and got it.

On the Pakistani truck channel that steering repair would have been considered a complete remanufacture although they do some amazing stuff with what they have. Getting the used oil from work is all you need for these machines only run occasionally and saves the pocket book as I know how these old machines can get to be an expensive hobby. 20 years ago they would replace batteries in delivery trucks every 2 years, guess where they would wind up. I would take my junk ones in because when he got new ones he had to turn same number in. Of course this would happen on a night when I worked late. Just getting the most out of the resources instead of scrapping and recycling before it’s time.

Yes mate I love that channel. Very interesting how they work. I do the same with batteries here. Some machines have between 2 and 4 in them. Only one usually fails but you always replace the set so I get the others. I get around 12 months out of them then bring them back in and they get the scrap value in the end.

Great video. Thanks Steve. Where i used to work as a teenager some 35 years ago, same industry as you, we had a chamberlain front end loader as back up. Looks very similar to this one, except ours was auto and had power steering. The engine had all these pin holes in the side of the block so when in need to be used, we filled it up with water. We would get 20 mins or so out of it. Lucky yours is not like ours, it was stuffed! Cheers Evan.

Hi Evan. Yes mate I know the ones you mean. One I have here had the auto in it but they took it out because of how useless it was. But I’m sure they had their place. The block must of been bad in that one. It must of been corrosive material it was working in. It’s a wonder this one isn’t the same. She sat for a long time. Thanks again mate

We have supacheap in NZ some stuff is ok some is crap, I drove an old Falcon Cairns to Sydney with visegrip battery clamps,used sump oil all the way the old girl was past it, threw another 250 in it and got real battery cables from a wrtecker, good as new,love seein this old gear run again, we werent allowed to use any old oil in trucks Volvos were really particular about servicing warrantys and all that.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 7 ай бұрын
Hi Bryce. Yes mate it would be the same. For the home workshop it’s not bad stuff but I don’t really use them professionally. Nothing would stop a falcon mate. We don’t use old oil either. We are very particular at work with oil samples. The European stuff especially is very touchy with sample results. I do bring home the old hydraulic and transmission oil though. Fine in this old stuff I have here

Congradulations Steve. Awesome job. There is hardly anything more rewarding than bringing something back to life, that was destined for the graveyard. These old tractors were built to last; like everything was in this era. No power steering, just like the one I cut more teeth on in the early 80's.

Usually the fan blades bust and cut my knuckles no matter how careful I am. Wish I was closer, I'd be helping you with some of your projects. With basic maintenance the old machines could be around for another 100 years or more. A lot of old products did not have planned obsolescence like the new shit that is sold today. If anything major happens that affects the world, the old machines will allow humans to survive. I see you have a nice gash on your left hand. As always you have my full support. Jim and Speed.

It looks like it's worth spending a bit of money on for a handy yard crane. I have never yet seen a Perkins that is easy to bleed. I know what you mean about Supercheap you have to know what you are buying there to get gear of reasonable quality. Here in NZ I found a small privately owned auto shop that had good quality at reasonable prices. They specialized in restoration parts and would spend the time helping to find hard to find parts. Sadley they retired last year and couldn't find a buyer so closed their shop.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 7 ай бұрын
Hi mate. Yes I will get it to a reliable and useful stage I hope. I will certainly use it. No Perkins are always hard to bleed, as basic and simple as they are. Those shops that you talk about with the older blokes helping you are a dying thing. They were brilliant the ones I knew, but as you say they retire and not only do you lose that great service but they take their knowledge with them. The majority of the parts shops now are people wanting your rego number of the car and still seem to get it wrong. I sometimes go in for a part for something I’m putting together or redesigning but I can’t supply a model or anything because it’s something I’ve come up with. That’s where I like eBay because I can source it.
