Since the gravey has sausage in it, will it still store for a long time? I really like that chef-mate sausage gravey. I've opened cans of it well past expire date and it's been fine.

I thought I'd seen all your videos and this one pops up ... 3 years old. How funny. I've made biscuits and gravy by the gallons and FD I probably have 50 one gsllon bags Mylar bags put up. I recently discovered that gravy but have not tried it. I mix the biscuits and gravy together then put it on the sheets. I like your way better Once again I've learned grom your videos. Thanks man

Do you freeze dry the biscuits in the same batch as the gravy? ie 2 trays of gravy and 2 trays of biscuits?

Yep.

So just wondering...If you're using a packaged gravy mix, which typically won't have the shelf life of a freeze drying process, could you put the dry mix through the process & store it without rehydrating?? Most of these mixes require just adding water...what say ye?
@EpicenterBryan3 жыл бұрын
I don't see why it wouldn't work. I Haven't tried it though...

Wow, I would not have expected such a glowing review for this item but its very encouraging. I wonder if it would keep well long term considering the high fat content of the gravy? Great video though, keep them coming.

If you'll use boiling water and seal in a Mylar bag with ziplock or and large thermos etc for 20 -25 mins it will all be reconstituted way better and still be piping hot when you opening it ... doing it in open air will not reconstitute it as well ... you just have to figure out through experience your water to batch ratio you prefer ... as well as biscuit to gravy ratio ...
@kimmididwhat7 жыл бұрын
Yay!!! I was wondering how ling it wood be until you did these... I FD sausage and gravy quite a bit. I grew up with it being served for Sunday morning breakfast. I use Jimmy Dean sage and maple sausage mixed. I thought about keeping my biscuit prices snd sausage separate as others have suggested here, but honestly, in an emergency, I don't think many will care about the ratio of biscuits to gravy. Great job as always! Missed Jenny though... 😀😀😀

Lol wish you posted one day earlier. I made double batch of biscuits and the chef mate graveyard. (For a canned graveyard it is very good). I mixed some with the gravy and some if separately to mix together when I rehydrate. I am thinking it might be best to rehydrate the gravy a little runny then add the biscuits mine is still in the freezer I are at this time I will let you know how mine turned out

Brian Bell I prefer FRESH Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage. Then I make my buttermilk biscuits from scratch. And 2% milk & unsalted butter & all purpose flour, for my made-from-scratch gravy. The end product is only as good as the quality of the ingredients you use in it in the first place. If you’re using mediocre canned ingredients, then there’s NO WAY it’s EVER gonna be terrific. It’s just gonna be mediocre.
@AdmiralPreparedness7 жыл бұрын
Maybe next time, keep the two main ingredients separate until reconstituted and then add them together...

I am new to your channel. Based on the name of the channel, I am assuming you are storing food for a future consumption date. However, I don’t know if you are creating a vacuum storage container for the freeze dried staples. This might be necessary for long term storage.
@EpicenterBryan6 жыл бұрын
The use of oxygen absorbers eliminates the need to vacuum seal.

Jennie’s right. 😤🤐
@donnanorris29396 жыл бұрын
I would’ve preferred you to show what it looks like when you freeze the biscuits by themselves and the gravy by itself, and then show how it looks after you add the unfrozen to gravy on top of the unfrozen biscuits, and then showed how each one looks when it is unfrozen and cooked. I would’ve wanted to see the consistency and everything up close. You have to have the control group of the experiment with the ingredients separate from each other, and then put them together before freezing to compare it with the other.
@arcticgypsy7 жыл бұрын
I wonder about baking very small biscuits (maybe the size of gnocci?) to get more of the separation of biscuits and gravy.
@EpicenterBryan7 жыл бұрын
Let us know how that works out. I've got enough stuff to run another 7-8 batches before I have time to try smaller biscuits.
@kristiereed14037 жыл бұрын
I like your experiments but you don't tell how to actually come up with your results. How much water per food, how long to soak and such.
@EpicenterBryan7 жыл бұрын
We will try to do a better job in that respect. Since we experiment, we don't always document stuff.

Hello Brian. First, let me start by saying, 'I am 72 years old and I have never had biscuits and gravy in my lifetime ' !!! THERE IS NOT ONE THING HEALTHY ABOUT BISCUITS AND GRAVY. Now, I am a very serious prepper. I tried marshmallows once but don't fool around with treats and stuff. I freeze dry 98 % different kinds of meat, veggies, potatoes and gravy. Casseroles, spaghetti, beans and ham hocks, chicken Alfredo. I guess you get the drift. Protein and Carbs. No gummy bears. I happened to watch your video and thought maybe it would be nice to have an unhealthy treat if those zombies really do come. I bought some Chefmate sausage country gravy and made some biscuits. OMG !!!!! I have never had gravy this good. From now on, all I'm going to freeze dry is sausage gravy. (Just kidding) Thanks for your videos. I find them very entertaining. Cute bunch of people. (I do think Jenny should have tried the biscuits and gravy) hon, you don't know what your missing. 😊

Thanks for the comments! Glad you like the sausage as much as we did (except Jenny). I don't make a habit of stopping for biscuits and gravy at convenience stores. I'm not much of a breakfast kind of guy. But every few months I get a bug. And perhaps one a year I'm out for breakfast and get a chicken fried steak. Oh yes, with this same gravy on top! Yum.
