Will it Freeze Dry? - CANDY! - Taffy, Skittles, Red Vines, Mom Blakeman's candy

Here is the long awaited Freeze Dried Candy video!
We did some Taffy, Skittles and Red Vines. We also Freeze dried some Mom Blakeman's candy that was sent to us by a channel subscriber!
The Skittles and Taffy are must do items. You will go crazy over those. Skip the red vines or you will make a trip to the garbage can like Janet did. The Mom Blakeman's candy actually freeze dried and didn't make a mess (just a few drops of oil on the tray) but we think it's way better fresh from the package.

Freeze dryer hack: go to test menu, turn on tray heaters, 130+ 5min then turn on vac, and turn off heat. Let puff then turn off freeze. Let cool below room temp. Turn a long time into an hour! 🔥👏

Any issues we need to know about the chocolate coating?

The chocolate is soft right when it comes out of the machine I let them sit a few minutes and it firmed up. They haven’t lasted long enough to know how it stores. They are like the best ever malted milk balls!

I'm so glad you liked the Mom Blakeman's Kentucky pulled cream candy. My grandmother would make that for us every Christmas. I was hoping it would do better in the freeze dryer.

Those candies taste better freezedried. You have a cult folowing for the freezedried skittles and I'm one of them. I wonder if it will work for jelly bellies and girl scout cookies. Tropical flavored licorice is sooo good, dark skittles are my favorite and taffy is a solid second favorite.

I'll be doing the Skittles next for sure (for the grandkids) I've done ice cream (Yarnell's Lemon Icebox Pie) and Strawberry Cheese Cake frozen yogurt. Both were really great. Ice cream sandwiches become really hard (the cake) but are great if cut small enough. NOW! I want to know how the fudge-cicles would do! Or Sherbet!

How do you store the candy? If you want to just snack on them, will a zip lock bag keep them from getting sticky?

Do taffy pieces need to be unwrapped?. Can cotton candy be freeze dried? What about anchovies?

This was a really fun video to watch! That Kentucky candy at the end was interesting. I image it may have gone a little better if it had been cut much thinner... not “wafer” thin, but thin to where you could put it on the tongue. Great video! Thank you. 😊👍 ~Sharon

I've been told no. But lots of people do things that have a very thin coat. They say the outer coat makes a mess. We will have to try it.

Skittles have a shelf life of about 6000 years. The only advantage to freeze drying must be the taste.
