I'm old. I cooked McD's pies back when they were actually good. Let me give you some hints. McD's pies were frozen when they were put in the fryer. In fact they had to be kept very cold. I think the freezer was around minus 10 f and that was critical to the timing. The raw pies were coated with a thin layer of sugar glaze that made them bubble up on the outside. Later, they started making baked pies which aren't nearly as good.
@SandraWeierman4 ай бұрын
They then added the cinnamon sugar once they were out of the frier later on when as you said not all that good. I don't buy them anymore.

Oh!!! I had most rest of the set of these as a kid. There was a milkshake maker that was pudding based, the hamburger maker was rice cripes with vanilla wafer buns, and fries were bread. We never managed to find the Nuggets or Apple Pie maker. Honestly it was a lot of fun to play with and easy to refill the ingredients to make more. No ordering specialty stuff. A lot more fun and easy to get than an Easy Bake Oven.

Fried a lot of those when i worked there. Those pies can pretty volatile, when they are just slightly cracked and you put them into the fryer, frozen btw. When those damaged ones starting to puff up they suddenly burst their filling into the hot oil. Got a few ouchies from them! And there was also a coating on them wich was quite starchy. Was probably starch and water, wich was the reason the pies get that blistered and bubbly outside layer.

Ive made fried appke pies really easily. I just use egg roll wrappers & pan fry in 2-3 inces of oil. I also use those flavored cream cheese. Wildberry on the inside & dusted with sugar is awesome. I also make savory ones with chive/green onion & ham. I've used refried beans & cheese, ham & swiss cheese with or without the green onion cream cheese. I don't cut holes in it though & i seal the edges with just water. Then make sure it's really well sealed so nothing leaks out. Theres nothing funner, ie scary, as having the cream cheese start seeping out. But it doesn't happen much & you can quickly scoop it out. I use a wire spoon thing & a metal spoon to help me flip them & then to scoop it out.

The chocolate and caramel was basically their take on the deep fried mars bar. You could almost certainly use sweets like cadbury's heros or quality street (unwrapped of course) as fillings for a sweet pastry. Something else to try would be to make them some an ice cream filling using more of a filo style pastry, pop them in the freezer to make sure the centres cold and flash them in a fryer to crisp only the outside.
@ilovemyservicedog88624 ай бұрын

I'm not sure if you might know but you can find Pizza pie in India. It's actually the only pie item that has been in the menu ever since McDonald's started in India and it has been constant. It's a vegetarian item and it's not called a pie rather "Pizza McPuff". It's very good and my best memories of childhood include burning the top of my mouth and tongue eating with and cooling it down with an iced tea. LOL But you should definitely try to make a homemade version of it for there are multiple recipes of it. It would definitely be lovely to see you recrreate some other vegetarian items from Indian McDonald's and get Phoebe to try them. OMG it sound so exciting!!!!!

I made egg rolls for the first time a few weeks ago and it reminded me of the old school mcdonalds pies. Do you get egg rolls in england? Here you can buy the wrappers fresh at most supermarkets and asian markets all have them. Its similar a bit in texture but thicker I guess. Maybe some dumpling wrap might work better. Springroll wrappers are completely different much crispier and like phylo pastry kinda but not layered.

The McD apple pie was one of the very few food items of theirs that I enjoyed. Then they stopped frying them, as a move to 'healthier' menu items, and baked them instead. Now, I eat fried food possibly twice a month, and really liked the mouth feel of the pie - it was stupidly hot, crumbly and sweet - in a totally different way to every other pie. Now it's just a baked pie, and I'm not so keen on them anymore. There was a 'Mc Pizza', but it was a tremendous failure, and I think McD try to pretend it never happened.😆😆😆 You might want to try a 'Mc Fish Finger pie'.
