Will It Run? 1929 John Deere GP Part 1 - 'The Relics' Antique Tractor Club Saves Another!

Hello all and welcome back! In this video, my friend Tony decided he wanted to bring another one home... So, we head to IOWA to pick up a 1929 John Deere model GP (General Purpose). This tractor seems to be in decent mechanical shape, and the engine is LOOSE! After some tinkering - will it run? Let's find out, together!

Have pat Detwiler put new rims on the wheels he is reasonable. Btw kenny that head is 100+lbs. If you need any information on the clutch im not that far away. H&J in north Dakota has valves. If you just need the valves ground bring it over neighbor does head work. He did my valves.

Hello sir I restored one in 2004 completely and still own it. if you take the head off to inspect valves when you put it back on make sure that you put the pressure washers behind the nuts and you follow the torque specs that head will crack mine didn't but I have heard many guys that have had that problem. Looking at the video it appeared that it only had compression on one side. I love my 31 g p I got all my sheet metal from detwiler's and many parts from knk tractors have a wonderful Easter and good luck with your project

Too bad. GP Allis Chalmers WC, and Farmall F20 had the same 6 bolt center rims. Past tense I had F20 24 inch round spoke rims for rubber. Unique tractor. Thank you Kenny.

@Kenny Kizzle Rusty Nutz Ranch They were standard French & Heckt. Most Midwest manufacturers got castings from them. When you see F&H on wheel weights that is who made them.

Nice '29 John Deere GP, great find and great save! Congratulations Tony on getting his bucket list tractor. I know you and the Relics will have that thing running in no time. It had decent paint and all straight sheet metal and it ran fine except you could put it in high gear and walk around it lol ! 3 toward gears my 50 series you could put it in 1st with throttle at lowest setting and walk around it I tried it

@@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch I have a friend with two ARs; one went through a fire, the other was wrecked. The wheels are good. He was going to make one out the two tractors but he’s in his 80s

​@mattthescrapwhisperer AR are different wheels I believe they will hit the breaks on a gp. There is not much space between the breaks and gp wheels on my 29 gp I got my fingers pinched when I was rolling it around the shop.
