I used to work for my grandparents in the summer. They were wheat farmers and ranchers. My uncles got to drive the newer 70s trucks, but us grandkids got the the older 40s trucks. I got the green 48 with the 2 speed rear end with a manual lever switch on the dash to use it. Had a lot of good memories in that old truck. It’s still on the farm but it’s relegated to yard art status now. Great trucks in their day. Every farm had at least 2 of these old trucks on the farm as water trucks, hay trucks or grain trucks. Seeing them are pure American nostalgia. Hope you get it going again.

I know a guy that had a higher speed pumpkin made for the rear end with four something gears. Not sure if it's a 4:10 or 4:56 or whatever. But he also put a four-speed automatic Allison Transmission from a big truck and a Cummins from a 1988 Dodge Dodge pickup and put them together

1 1/2 and the 2 ton trucks both had the 235 oil dipper engine that came out in 1941 for the big trucks.the difference between the two trucks is in the rear end! The 1,1/2 ton rear end was a single speed with 6:17 rearend gears and the 2 ton trucks had 2 speed rear ends 6:10/8:10 ratio's to give it the extra power to pull another 1/2 ton. Which was very similar to a four-wheel drive pickup truck when you put it in 4 low. But with this two-speed rear end it just do the rear wheels alone. But both trucks at 2:35 cubic inch oil Dipper engines with the sm420 transmission.

The 1948 1.5 ton also can have a 2 seed rear end, if it is in the 6409s model. The 4409 looks like the 6409(s) but it does not have the 2 speed axle whereas the 6409 (2 ton) & the 6409s (1.5 ton) does have the 2 speed 'axle'. Now I hope I'm wrong because then that would mean that the 1948 Loadmaster I'm getting will have to be the 6409 (2 ton) rather than the 6409s (1.5 ton) because it does have the 2 speed axle (i.e. rear end). But either way I'm sure I'll be happy with the truck that will (God willing) be shipped to me within a week or 2. He (the seller) said it is the 1.5 ton but he could be wrong ??? The link bellow seem kind of funny. I have to 'highlight it' then right click the choose 'go to'........... . Maybe for you it will work easier. www.gm.com/content/dam/company/no_search/heritage-archive-docs/vehicle-information-kits/chevrolet-trucks/1948-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf 2024-09-22 John from Rockport TX

you will need 4 sets of points one for each truck plus a spare for each.
