This awesome work truck was left on a property after it was sold. The new owner would love to return this truck to work on the property, but will it?

Since that thing is going to be pulling heavy loads, I highly recommend getting the exhaust valves changed out to stellite, install hardened valve seats on the exhaust valves, and bronze valve guides, so that today's unleaded gasoline will not eat the exhaust valves out under heavy load. Any good machine shop can do that. It was made in 1970 when gas had tetraethyllead in it to protect exhaust valves and seats. That's a Rochester 2GC two barrel carburetor. HEI debuted in 1975. But it is a very worthwhile and easy mod to do on any 1974 or earlier Chevy.

Hi Bryan. Yes, I sell all of the ones I buy. I get them road-worthy, cleaned up, and then sold. Lately though I have done quite a few that aren't for sale, like the 64 Riviera and this truck. For those I just help the owner get it going. You can be sure all of my videos will be good for all ages.

HEI didn't come out until 1975, so it may be a later motor. Glenn Campbell
@billywird7 ай бұрын
Well sir, a tip from experience. When you are fooling with a HEI ignition system it is a good idea to NOT!!!!!!!!!! have any excess fuel leaks that can spray onto that distributor as it can cause a maximum fire and without any type of fire extinguisher it is a watch it burn scenario. Ask me how I know. Those trucks came with a 350 engine generally and those engines were of course 4 bolt main blocks and tuft ridden crank shafts (extra hard mains and rods for severe duty use. They also came standard with the double roller timing chain setup. That engine has been replaced and it is somewhere between 197 and 75 if that is the original intake manifold to that engine. HEI did not come in until 1974 if memory serves me correctly. The 1973 engines were the last year for factory ignition points. Of course, the advantage to the HEI setup is you do not have to clean dirty ignition points. When I used to go to the dirt track with a friend of mine (he had a car he raced, and I was a helper bee). Most of the high-end racers used the HEI right out of the box as it was consistent at higher RPM's The bed on that truck is period correct and if it were mine, I would repair the floor (that is if the frame is sufficient).🥸👍👍
@whattherust7 ай бұрын
Thank you for the info. I was not aware any SBCs had a factory double roller chain. I saw this truck a few weeks ago. It was recently sold and the new owner is making it road-worthy.
@SladeM.2 жыл бұрын
you said it had the passenger truck dash and 72 was the last year they did that? The 67-72 heavy duty trucks like the one in the vid used the cabs from the half ton-1 ton trucks. same with the 73-87's

Hi,What kind of fuel You use,those engines used added lead, Saludos
@whattherust2 ай бұрын
I use regular unleaded unless it is a high compression engine, then I use super. It is true that the lead is gone from gas today, but it takes quite a few miles to cause valve recession, and some old engines are quite resistant to it no matter the miles. Lead additive just isn't worth it, in my opinion. Great question!
