I was given a '76 Valiant sedan by the original owner several years back. Up into the '90's, I would've looked at it as a great donor vehicle. It was clean, un-molested, and so strangely optioned I was laughing at all the stuff. The woman didn't order the car, it was one of the last ones one the lot at Town & Country Chrysler-Plymouth (Seattle). Low-level rim, vinyl seats, V8, HD cooling, HD suspension, "Road handling package," map light, passenger door mirror, carpet, 4-speed OD gearbox. I still have the car and it came all the way across the country...I've done a bit of upgrades, powertrain, brakes, chassis. Built it to drive & enjoy. Tabs are $0, insurance is cheap, my cattle dog can ride in this & my truck; everything else is off limits for the most part for him. Cars like these are perfect in this context. Low-cost, easy to fix, upgrade- the caveat? Drive & enjoy them, lowering your cost to own & operate your personal transportation. Squeeze the nickels out of them that you put in & didn't spend on a payment, taxes, tabs, future repairs that take a specialist...

Hi Tony, great video and I find it oddly satisfying to watch…almost like I was there doing the same process you did. Whenever I see an old car, especially a luxury car, that’s been abandoned or junked, I always wonder what happened in its life that took it down the path of no return. I also picture in my mind, how the car shined as it rolled out of the showroom and somebody was very excited to buy that new car and bring it home and show it off. Kind of sad because I just love cars and think that each had a personality and played a potentially important or exciting role in somebody’s life. In any event, it’s a great video and L look forward to watching the transformation to the big wagon. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Great content Tony! I had a 75 marquis brougham. I found the Mercury a very luxurious vehicle at the time. I understand the comments on saving this but the reality is they have absolutely no value. I remember an individual in town that was going to “save“ 5 vehicles that were sitting in his driveway, they were cars from the 60s, the truth is he Purchased them for next to nothing, 65 Riviera, 68 Lincoln, 69 Datsun roadster, convertible, 68 Bonneville, 71 MG, those vehicles sat from about 1981 to 2017 , sat in his driveway in rotted into the ground, Lowered everyone’s quality of life, property value, but he insisted that he was going to “save”them , got old and died of a heart attack, all the vehicles were towed away for scrap metal, easy to get romantic ideas about vehicles, truth is those vehicles were too far gone, the value was never there, and it would’ve cost a lot more than they were worth to fix, it’s so easy for someone to get into that kind of a trap, the highway to hell is paved with good intentions

Tony, I completely understand why you would get a parts car like this to finish your Country Squire. It's the best solution these days. This car would take significant work just to get it to driver status, and if anyone has tried to revive one of these cars, then you know it's neither cheap or easy. How did you get it onto your trailer? If you're not doing anything with that drab green colored cup holder console tray could I pay for shipping plus a little extra and obtain it from you...only if it would fit in a Country Squire comfortably. My '74 Squire has the similar olive green interior as that cupholder. Thanks!

I'm not sure why that car is viewed as a parts car. I think that Mercury could be restored and it would be a really nice car. The paint isn't bad, neither the vinyl top. The interior and trunk aren't trashed. Yes i understand the interior is going into the Country Squire but i just HATE to see a beautiful car like that go for parts. Put a NOS hood ornament back on that front end, buff and wax the paint and give it a second chance on life. If it was all rusted and trashed i would understand but that car is really too nice to be used up. Guess i'm optimistic too much.
