Dan, to get a key made. remove one of the door locks, the GM key number is on the tumbler. A good key shop can look up the code and make a key. Just did it for my 57 Nomad. Same key for ignition, doors and trunk.

Dan and Dani, I had a thought… Your new Nomad is so special, such a very beautiful survivor that she deserves something special. Once you have restored her mechanically could you take her on a road trip to Alberta and team up with my other favorite uber talented loonies at Cold War Motors? I would give my eye teeth to see the Master of master panel molders, melders and beaters help you to ease the bumps and creases out of the roof and hood of your glorious car. It would make such a terrific two hander bringing your two excellent channels together. This is not to knock your own growing panel bashing talent, but Scott simply works pure magic. Just a thought Dan, Scott Newson is such a talent that your Nomad could only be the winner.

Kinda bizarre that it's light blue with a white roof, a brown dash and gold seats. Then it has nearly every option and trim piece, accept A/C and it has a manual w/ an OD. Then the guy took a later 307? Put 283 power pack heads on it and made is super quiet. Not knocking it, very cool, shane you got ripped on it so hard after it was a giveaway from some old lady, at keast it ended uo in hands that appreciate it. Good to know things like that are still possibly out there. Hopefully you make videos and get enough to pay for it and it won't be too much if a hardship, just living in Canada is enough already it's amazing you can afford to do anything accept pay taxes and not starve while freezing in a snowbank. 😂

Easy way to tell if it's an original 1955, 265 is to look down and see if it has a standard spin on oil filter. It it doesn't have an oil filter, it's a '55. If it was ordered with the oil filter option, it's a remote canister filter that hangs off the side like the old Stovebolt I6's. 1956 they cast in the oil filter boss on the SBC and it stayed there for ever after that. Great Find Man! and it's in good hands for sure!
@Zero-Fox-Garage
@Zero-Fox-Garage Жыл бұрын
It has a spin on filter you could see when he was messing around underneath with the starter. Definitely a later block, and has some corporate GM blue on the block too. Might be a 305 with the powerpack heads bolted onto it...but we won't know til Dan runs the numbers on it. At any rate, not a 265.

That's what I get for having it playing in the background while I'm working on other things..... lololol.... I missed that part. But it's also why I love Chevy's, everything is so compatible with everything else, that all the VIN tag will tell you what was supposed to be in there, not what someone put in there to keep it on the road... lol@@Zero-Fox-Garage

Wow what a win! Of course you had to buy her. What a truly beautiful car and so, so original. Yes please we want to see more, much more of you keeping her as an original 1950s time machine. No hood scoop hot rod mods on this sweet baby, just love, care, roof and hood debonking and Turtle Wax out of the original tin! The interior and electrical windows and seats are amazing - superb to see on a 1950’s dream machine. The blue and white colour scheme is so 1950s summer holiday ice cream flavour… Jeez she’s to lust over. Bridget Bardot never looked so good. 🥰

So glad to see you buy this for yourself. I traded a gorgeous 2012 Camaro 2SS convertible completely tricked out for a barely running 71 Camaro with a small block of dubious origins. A former father son project, and I LOVE it. No one said much about the’12 Camaro, but I get thumbs up, yelling “love your car!”, and conversations every time I drive the 71. Happiness is underrated today

I know exactly how you feel....You think you paid too much...."losing sleep" oh, what have I done!....and then you realize what it is you really own....Been there and done that Dan....I've had my Nomad for 40 years....and watching you "beam" as you started tinkering, brought back so many great memories of getting ours back to driving condition....They are a unique automobile and production were low numbers...Ours was a 1/4 miler running in D modified production and raced for about 9 years after it was built, but that's another story....The point is, it was a complete car and you now know how valuable that is now...I'm happy that you own your new Nomad and anticipate all that you will do on improving it...I am here for you should you need any advice on whatever you might need to know from big to the small and to those "insignificant" little issues that you will experience....Congrats and best of luck...

The love your showing for this car is fantastic. In 1973 my ex-wife and I were able to purchase a ‘56 Nomad in about the same condition yours is in. Watching you today brought back the excitement I felt. I kept that car for 17 years taking it from pillar to post and back again. When I finally sold it a part of my heart went with it too. In the end it landed with a guy I knew would take care of it and keep it nice.

I once had a 35 Chevrolet sedan body that had the roof totally jumped on and caved in. I took a floor jack with a 4 x 4 and a 16“ x 36“ piece of half-inch plywood up against the roof and slowly jacked it all up. It was amazing how easily it all popped back out. if you’re careful, yours should easily pop out real nice with a few taps along the crease. Without even hurting the paint. Try it when you get the seat out. Pull down that headliner and try it. Good luck. Smitty.

If it truly just needs a patch panel for the floor, do a Fitzee style "cut and butt" and it will be more or less undetectable. A full floor pan will still have front, rear, and side blends to the original car that the car guys will recognize, and ask you just how bad the whole floor was. Keep the fix simple for a first rate refurbishment, almost a restoration. Now if the inner and outer rockers are more or less a mess, then maybe the full floor pan will have the bigger long term return. But like Danni says, if you take the whole interior out, it could be a big challenge to get it back together. I've seen you do it, so whatever you decide will work out. Good score, and best of luck!

Dan, that 'Acme Thunderer' whistle is a relic itself! They are usually chrome plated brass based on the Original Flight Jacket Whistle as worn by RAF & USAAF pilots and aircrews during World War II. Referred to as the “Ditch” Whistle, at times as it was used by pilots who had been shot down in the Ocean to attract attention from passing ships. Check the date on it. Want to sell it? This is about the funnest DD episode I think I've seen. It's just so cool. I completely get the whole, oh it was a major chunk of change, but oh man it is so good. Well deserved! Congrats!

Awesome. Do the floor plans, do the brakes, keep it original as possible. What a sweet find. All the parts are probably worth your money back on the purchase.

What an incredible score!! I think you show a lot of content on this one. This car being as nice as it is, buy floor patch sections and make her solid again

The ‘55 is may favorite Nomad and arguably the best looking one. To find a Nomad in this condition is a rare thing indeed. I believe that this may be the first tri-five that you have with a complete headliner😊! The color of the steering wheel and dash lead me to believe that the original color may have been cream or brownish. The spare parts that came with it is a treasure trove and could take the edge off of your initial investment.

The videos I love the most, are the ones with Murr in them. You lucky to have him as a father ,he’s a great easy-going guy. I remember seeing this car back in the 1990s when I was cruising down portage Avenue in my Camaro
