Will It Start? 1974 Ford Gran Torino Sport Brougham 351W 2 Door Hardtop

The 1974 Ford Gran Torino Sport Brougham is getting some attention again! Been sitting in the salvage yard for about 15 to 17 years. Ran when parked and guess it smoked like a chimney stack too! Still has it's original 351 Windsor with original miles on it! Factory matching numbers and all original from front to back! I'm still puzzled about this car. Why did anyone not grab it after all these years? I remember it sitting there for ages but never payed any attention to it.
Some updated history I found out about this car!
It had a repaint sometime in the 80's or 90's, found evidence of that. Think the rot around the tires and opera windows was from sitting in the salvage yard though that's old news. What I did find out for some new news is that a dealership turned this into a Sport before placing it onto the lot via the dealership's discretion and I'm not complaining! To what I've been told by multiple Ford clubs that this can be considered either a 1973 1/2 or a 1974 due to what a Ford dealership did. Whatever happened to this car along the way it will now and forever remain to be called a Gran Torino Sport Brougham!

I’m going to pin this comment as internet experts are crawling out of the woodwork in traditional manner. I’m tired of explaining this car so going to say it here. The parent company wanted the dealership to liquidate some of their spare parts so they had the dealership slap ‘73 stuff onto this Brougham. Some of the front was spray painted blue by someone as I found some spots with body putty so that why there is blue paint. If you don’t know nothing about a car and it’s history I suggest you keep to yourself. I know everyone wants to be an expert and rely on info online or the books though with a vehicle like this it won’t ever be in the books because of decisions made. VIN is a Brougham though as I explained it was turned into a Sport with ‘73 stuff by order of the company. This was a thing from automakers and sometimes dealerships even in today’s practices. I know people won’t like this though that’s the history of this car. Even had 23 people step forward trying to claim that they were this car’s owner at one point. Amazes me how people in the car community have a lot of issues though not surprising as it’s online where everyone is an expert. Last time I’m going to do this nonsense in explaining this vehicle. If you don’t like it then that’s on you.

Ford has rubber caps on the valve guides as seals to stop oil getting into the combustion chambers an they go hard over the years an can even fall apart an let to much oil past the guides that will cause it to smoke an with the rite tools you can change the seals with the heads on the motor in the car

Back in 1979/80 I bought a 74 Gran Torino from a Ford dealer in our area, Copper color, brown int. with a 302 engine and C4 trans. Like it ,only had a couple of months, was stolen. Went to see it at the tow yard after the Boston police found it vandalized and destroyed. Miss that car . Great channel, GREETINGS from Boston ma.

That’s too bad. A lot of good cars have come and gone. Like our late father back in the 60’s traded his Ford Woodie for a butcher hog though back then they didn’t know the value of said cars.

1974 had a sport coupe. I owned one and I miss it. You’re thinking about the 72-73 fast back. Ford only built the fast back 2 years. The 74 Gran Torino he’s working on has a 73 front grill and bumper which tells me it was in a accident at some point. You’re right there is no such thing as a Gran Torino Sport Brougham.

@@TheDirtCatBrothers wow. I wasn’t expecting a retort. Sorry to bust your bubble. Just look at the grill of a 73 compare that to a 74. 73 also didn’t have an opera window until 74. All gotta do is look at old sales brochures. By the way Brougham was a luxury trim level which had all the bells and whistles. Gran Torino Sport is just that a Sports package of the Gran Torino. Keep in mind that car is 49 years old you’re not going to know when that front end was replaced I know this because I was in high school in 1979 when I had my 1974. I don’t drive Fords anymore. I’m retired and enjoying my Tesla model Y. Good luck on your project problems.

This one was put together with parts replaced at the dealership to liquidate stock from what the parent company wanted to get rid of. It is a 100% Brougham but with ‘73 Sport stuff on it. Build sheet to this is all Brougham but never changed for accommodate the Sport stuff. That’s what I know from the car’s history and how it is considered a 73 1/2 Sport Brougham

Hey man I saw your other video where you rescued a cyclone gt. About 1 year ago I too rescued a cyclone GT from becoming one with the Earth at a body shop in georgia. I noticed you rescued two or three cyclone/gt Montego body style cars, do you happen to have any extra trim? I'm on two or three Facebook pages dedicated to those body style Mercury cars. I'm not real hard to find my logo is a Trans Am bird. I recently posted a KZbin video updating the progress on my red 70 cyclone GT car. I'm looking for a Nike swoosh for the passenger quarter window or possibly a set that matches condition. I only have the driver side and it's in really rough shape but if I had two that were in rough shape I'd be good with that as long as I had a set. I'd be willing to buy one or a set if you have them. Great videos and if you're willing to share the information what junkyard did you rescue those cars from

The Montego MX is a beatbox for it’s getting torn apart for the Cyclone GT. All parts that are coming off of it will be either used and/or save back in case something happens. The salvage yard I got them from don’t have any more of those types of models.

Sorry no such thing as a Sport Brougham. In fact there wasn't even a Sport in 74. Thats justa 74 Gran Torino Brougham. There was a 73 Sport but no Broughams in 73. Hey, but its a car and its still nice.

Long story short. Ford wanted a dealership to liquidate some stock and they had this roll off the lot with a ‘73 Sport grill and front on it
