Glad I waited and watched from the beginning. (actually OCDs wouldn't not let me) Back in '75 or '76, I was 11 or 12 and my friend Robert Ramos' moms blue 61(?) Rambler wagon was parked and broken. Wishing we could fix it for his mother and with very(emphasis) little mechanical experience, Robert and I went to taking it apart. I do not remember how far we got but that engine compartment was just full of nasty oil... as did we post haste. Apparently, we were using his uncles tools. He proceeded to chastise us in spanish followed by pointing at the block from the wheel well. At the time I didn't understand the significance of a rod poking out of the side of the block but, the inflection got the point across. I don't remember what motor it was but this video brought a flood of memories! Thank you for what you do!

In the other video you ask about the back windows going only half way down. Back in those days AMC/Rambler was more interested in safety than most other manufacturers. The unibody construction and other things like the windows were part of the safety. This as you know was before car seats for small kids so they limited the size of opening so small kids couldn't roll the windows down and climb out while going down the road, You will find this is a very neat car and very high quality. And easy to work on.

To save the starter and battery, to check for spark just flick the closed points and see if you have spark at the coil high tension lead. The back windows only go down a little as a safety. Sleeperdude - Hello from Southwestern Canada. Loved this video. Like you, I'm very good with this stuff, and also like you, I'm not afraid to say that I'm not an expert. I saw this video and saw that it fits my own experiences over the years since 1974. Great video, and thanks for bringing an oddball car back to life. I own a 1965 Acadian Beaumont myself - those of you on the American side don't see those very often. They were Canadian-only produced cars that were based on the Chevy Chevelle, but had a GTO dash, different grill, and different taillights. Built only in Canada by Pontiac Motor Division. Owning a car that's different is great - and your Rambler is definitely different. Thanks for bringing it back to life.

Really love your show, and the fact that your family and goats are involved. Just a tip: when you're starting an old motor, have the throttle open wide. When it's closed, you're creating a vacuum in the engine, which acts like a brake on the motor. Obviously, you have to be prepared to quickly back off the throttle once the engine starts, so you don't rev the motor to death. Keep up the good work :)

I like your find ....the 59 rambler👍 I myself had found a 64 Nash rambler that was in cherry conditioner except for the left front fender which had been replaced with a metallic green one that was slightly I would say wrinkled but I bought from a young Indian guy who had bought it from a little old lady who didn't drive anymore and had it parked in her garage for 8 years and it only had 66,000 miles on it.needless to say it drove like a top....it was a 164_6 and he sold it for $175 to me....best deal for a car I ever came across and this was in 1987 👍🙂 loved that little rambler....the only problem I ever had with it was the exhaust manifold had cracked and I parked it so I could replace it but it got towed because in our City which was Newark, CA they had a city ordinance that would tow your vehicle if you had it parked in the street for more than a week....hence it got towed because I delayed parking it in my driveway the night before and the city tow service grabbed it 😔 and being I was only working part time I couldn't afford to get it back out....oh well

In the early 60’s my Dad bought a 1955 Rambler coupe, same body style as this one. Didn’t have an engine. He put a flat head six from a late 40’s / early 50’s Full size Nash in it. Both cars were manual transmission. The really interesting accessory on the 1955 was that it had vents for air conditioning, but all other components were gone. Some advice from a 70 year old who has been wrenching all his life. The first thing you should be doing once the engine will turn over with the starter motor is run a compression test on it. This will reveal to you a ton of useful information. If you have a dead cylinder or all cylinders are equally low or whatever, those readings can more accurately steer your diagnosis than just randomly hunting and pecking. Knowing the basic condition of the engine early on makes everything else easier and makes you look smart. A quality 12 volt test light, a quality remote start switch and a quality timing light are the essential tools of diagnosing.

I had several Nash as well as Ramblers in the 1960's and loved them. The way I would work under them was block the wheels on the driver's side and then go over the top with a big 3/4 inch hemp rope Tied to the Door post and hook it to my pickup and role it up towards it's side and block it with 4" X 4" X 4' on the front and middle and back and then worked on them including changing the Transmission and Clutch. I want you to know that car was just as nice on the road as any Ford, Chevrolet or Chrysler Product. And you could travel in it without a Motel. My wife then was a Nurse and she traveled all over within 100 miles of home working as a Home visiting nurse and she loved that car and she would sleep in it many times over driving home. Many young kids liked them because of those bed seats. You would see them at the Drive Inn' Movies a lot

My Mom had a 59 American,3 on the tree, I was 16 and I drove it a lot. We lived in South Daytona and I remember that my Dad and I came up to Rockwood and on our way back home we stopped at Perry,Ga and we went 290 miles on 10 gals of gas , it was a reliable little car, Paul McCarroll

I remember when I was about 14. One be my friends parents had a Rambler station wagon. Had something called a hydromatic transmission. You put it in gear with buttons on the dash. Timing makes everything work. Good job

These car were sold in the Netherlands, as a Renault Rambler! A cousin of me had a later model Renault Rambler. That one was a four door and it looked a bit like a smaller version of your white car! I mean the car you collected the Christmas tree with! He bought it new and only used it to go to school, were he was headmaster! That all was years ago, but he still drives it. For the rest of the time, it's parked in the garage! 😊

Great video. Nash and AMC built great engines, durable and well designed. The flathead six was bullett proof, reliable and fun to work on. The fastest, (relative term), and most economical combination was the flathead with three speed overdrive transmission. Nash and Hudson merged in 1954. The original 1950 Nash Rambler was retired after 1955, resurrected with body updates in 1958 as the Rambler American through 1960. Once again, the 1950 car had a major body restyle in 1961 and was finally replaced in by an all new car in 1964. The owners of these Ramblers LOVE them. Keep the original engine, they are great fun just as they were built.

If I recall correctly, some early AMC may have been a Positve ground systeem, if so your positive cable gets connected to ground. Not sure, so do your research.

And with countryside use of mind we solve all sorts of problems, but sometimes it feels like chasing your own tail fixing old motors. 3x left is also right 😂🤣👍💪Please stay safe!

My sister and I used to have a record of “silly songs” with the beep beep song on it. We would play it and run around in circles speeding up and slowing down with the song. We loved that song. Good memories:)
