Man of many talents. My uncle use to have one of those back in the early 80's. Use to think it was strange a motorbike with pedals but now I'm older I'd love a bike like that 😁

I bought a PC-50 new in 1976 in Montreal, Canada. Most mopeds were 2-stroke but this 4-stroke ride was great! It was a reliable and easy starting bike and was easy on gas. The pedals wee useless except for starting it and keeping feet off the ground - it was like pedalling in first gear. But it moved along nicely at about 30 mph with the motor. I added a scooter skirt on the front which also looked nice and rear foot pegs and a padded seat on the carrier rack for the occasional passenger. I hope you post when you get it fully operational.

I'm sure somebody mentioned it already but the screws are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw and fit is slightly different then Phillips. Thats why they will strip easily. Great buy, cant wait to see you restore it😁

BuzzerAuto. Yes sir. Every rice grinder owner should buy a JIS bit or screwdriver. Suddenly the work is so much easier, and no stripped and buggered heads.

Any screw with a indent on the head ,like a center punch mark , is J I S. Oh good more tools for the shop.

what does 'different then Phillips' mean?
@STho205
@STho205 5 жыл бұрын
Alex Roca. Phillips screw heads have a pointed bottom to the well. A phillips bit is supposed to torque out or jump out on its own when tight. JIS screws are just a crosscut somewhat like a flathead screwdriver. You stop when they are tight. Phillips bits and screwdrivers won't properly fit in a JIS screw. The corners don't reach and the point jumps out, buggering up the center of the slots or the screw cant be tightened all the way. Hope that helps.

I used to have a Honda PF50r (same bike but 18" wheels, downtube mounted tank and more "modern" styling of the headlamp casing) and you have to start the machine on the centre stand (2 ways to start, if cold 1st start turn on fuel tap, actuate choke mechanism, stand on pedals and pull engine de-compressor lever, turn over engine by pedalling then release decompression lever and apply a little throttle, when the engine is running evenly (usually have to "back" the choke off a bit), apply the rear brake and take the machine off the stand --- the other starting method when the engine is warm is to stand to the side of the moped and use the pedal as a sort of forward kickstart having eased the engine over tdc also applying a little throttle and then following the same as previously (starting and stopping is similar to Mobylette or Puch mopeds of the same era)) because the starting one way clutch works via the final drive so the back wheel has to turn when starting the engine.

I had the PF50DXR Novio. Starting is just as you say, I got just over a year before my stand started to bend. I loved that wee bike, went everywhere on mine and as it wasn't restricted like the newer ones it would do 42mph and gave over 100mpg

That little lever is a de-compressor lever you push that lever in start to pedal the bike then once you get a bit of speed up you let go of the de-compressor lever and it should start, That lever on the side of the casing disengages the engine from the pedals and back wheel so when you run out of fuel or break down you can pedal it home instead.

My first bike when I was 16 (I’m 54 now) was one of these. My old man and me restored it and had loads of fun. The decompressor was badly worn and my Dad (who was a welding engineer) took it into the machine shop of one of his customers and got it rebuilt. Learned loads on that project and the bike lasted a while until the con rod snapped on the way to school. It was a long push home and time for a proper bike then.

I soon got fed up being left behind and getting laughed at by my mates on their 'Fizzies' so I dumped it down the arches and got an AP50.
