Ya'll have so much fun...reminds me of my days as a "Wheel & Track Vehicle Maintenance Technician" (63H20) MOS, while in Viet Nam. Our company was looking for a way to be a little more efficient at getting Transportation vehicles into our shops for major mechanical repairs and get those vehicles back into the driver's hands to transport supplies to combat areas faster. Myself and a buddy of mine came up with the idea to send out a couple of "Contact Teams" to the motor pools to do those minor repairs. The company commander liked our idea so much, he said..."What do you need?" We asked for at least 2, 3/4 ton ambulances that we could convert to maintenance vehicles with tools and some limited parts. Sorry this post is long, but, we saved those transportation companies , on average, 2-3 weeks by eliminating red tape and get those ole deuce and a half, 5 ton tractors, escorts, etc, done within a couple of days. Again, sorry for the long post, but, you guys bring back a lot of memories...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, and if I were a little closer, I would love for this ole 76 year old BAMA BOY to go with you guys just once before I run out of time...haha. For all the Mack’s y’all find you still don’t know much about them! Whenever you see the Econodyne label it’s a differ power curve than a Maxidyne, it’s more narrow. Maxidyne will have 5,6 or 7 speeds where trucks like this one will have 9 or 10 speeds. Some will have Mack 10 or 12 speeds and Eaton 13 and 15 speeds. Most of those years had Eaton 9 speeds, they shift better than the Mack 10 and 12 speeds. That same years Superliners were the same E6 350’s with 9 speeds. Nice job though keep finding them and saving them! Good ole trucks!

I worked in a mack truck bodyshop for many years and found out a while back that if had a gold Bulldog, it was 100 percent mack.

Mack Bulldog Ornament Color Designations 1941 - December 1941 thru September 1944 the chrome finish was replaced by Mack Gray 775R, a painted finish. 1967 - Starting for the 1967 model year, the original “gold” ornaments signified that a vehicle featured the Mack Maxidyne engine and Maxitorque transmission. Mack trucks with other components used the chrome plated ornaments. 1980 - The engine color was changed to Andes Copper thus, the Maxidyne gold bulldogs were no longer used. During the month of March, the gold bulldog changed to silver across our product line. (SED#757-80) 1992 - Starting with the introduction of the CL model in the 1992 model year, CL models with the Elite trim packages utilized the gold ornament. The CH model with the Elite high-level interior trim package may also have included the gold ornament. 1995 - CH models for the 1995 model year with Pedigree Powertrain utilized the gold ornament. (SED#1122-94) . 2000 - CX models with the Millennium Gold Package utilized a gold Bulldog with a gold base. (SED#1202-00) 2007 - Starting with the 2007 model year, the gold ornament indicated that a vehicle had an all-Mack powertrain, i.e., Mack engine, Mack transmission, and Mack axles. This is its current usage. 2019 - Starting in 2019, a copper ornament was added to signify electric power, starting with the Electric LR model. 2020 Starting in 2020, a black ornament was added as a feature on the Limited Edition Mack Black Anthem model.

9 speed Mack trans.its a Mack I knew it would start .Thats a nice old truck. If that long usually the brake shoes rust to the drums.. probably has algae in the fuel need to drain the tanks and change the filter. 6500 is a steal for that truck

He probably has a bad head gasket on his air compressor, especially if he is losing coolant and he is having a lot of water in his air tanks… if not he needs to change his air dryer filter and see if that alleviates some of the water issues

I like the old R models, the first truck I drove was a 1966, R model, then a 74, and a 77. The 66, and 74 had the 237 Mack engine. The 77 had the 283/285 horsepower Mack. The 66 had the Mack Quadraplex, and the 74, and 77 had the 2 stick 6 speed. I pulled dump trailers with all of them. Rough riding, but good dependable truck's.

Gold Dog from 65' & in the 70's Ment the truck had a Maxidyne Engine under the hood . For what ever reason the gold dog wasnt on the hood during the 80's. not even on the hood of the purebred Bulldogs. Then in the 90's the Gold Dog returned on the hood of the "pure bred" Macks . meaning it was 100% Mack drivetrain & thats what it means to this day although Mack engines & automated transmissions are rebranded Volvo componets . 3 oil filters tells me that is a E6-300 or E6-350 Mack . From the factory , R685 is a E6-237 Engine , R686 is a E6-300 Engine , R688 is E6-350 Engine Mack hasnst had a manual transmission of their own since 2018 or 2019 . Unless you special order a new bulldog with a Roadranger manual transmission, most of your new Macks come with Automated (Automatic) Transmission . Mack

Highway Transport Mack trucks have two signature bulldog hood ornaments, and only true Highway experts know the difference between them. A gold bulldog ornament indicates that the vehicle is 100% Mack, whereas a silver bulldog ornament indicates it isn't.

Why don't you put a second alternator on service truck and run battery cables back to your batteries so as you are driving to your next start up you can make sure that the batteries you brought are fully charged. You could also jump start people from that connection.

Silver dog means that it IS NOT all Mack, from the factory. Some part of the drive line is something other that original Mack equupment. A Gold bulldog on the hood means that it is ALL MACK driveline components installed from the factory.....an undisputible FACT!!
