If the shifter flops and doesnt act like it should it is out place with the shift rails and it will be in 2 gears and bind up. The shifter is usually spring loaded and that can happen when worn and it gets forced somehow.Pull the shift tower off where the shifter goes into the transmission.You should be able to see the shift rails.Line up the gaps in the rails,thats where the shift stick end goes.Reassemble with the stick in the gaps and it should be fine.If in the field the shift stick can be used to realign the rails but a medium sized bar or large screwdriver works better. Good as it runs I'd check that ,then the tracks.It had zero give and that is what happens with a messed up shifter. Definitely worth a look and is an easy fix. That little dozer is definitely worth a second chance,even a third or fourth.

I have the identical machine, your blade probably wouldn’t go up because the linkage isn’t connected. I’m willing to bet the brake bands are stuck to the drums, it wasn’t even trying to move, if it was the tracks holding it back you would at least see the sprockets trying to move…under the seat there is a couple little access covers to get to the brake bands. The transmission gearshift should be over to the left and ahead is reverse, to the left and back toward you should be 1st gear forward. That HD6 still has a lot of life left in it yet by the looks of the undercarriage!!! I would love to have that winch for mine!

I enjoyed you guys getting the crawler running and moved. I owned an AC HD6 for thirty years for logging and plowing. The carco winch probably is gear driven, and that center button is pulled out for the free spool. With the tracks froze up, be careful not to feed it the onions because it will damage the final drives. Good luck with it.
@grandicornis Жыл бұрын
You could probably use a bottle jack and a length of pipe to force the track upward but you still have to deal with the tracks that have been on the ground all these years.

Pull the shift handle out of the transmission and make sure it's not stuck in two gears at the same time. That would bind the transmission and lock it up
@AcreageHappenings Жыл бұрын
That used to happen all the time on the WD-45's after the shifter peg would wear a little bit. Spent many a time removing the circlip, pulling the shift lever out, sticking in a screwdriver and aligning the gears correctly then reinstalling the shift lever. Got so good at it that one could do it in a couple of minutes each time.

Try a high lift jack on them tracks . See if you can lift the top side of the tracks some . Or a tractor bucket get in there and get it moving up and down. Just a thought I know you can only use what you have to work with . Does the winch work when it’s running? Don’t know what you could anchor to but try pulling the dozer while trying to get it in gear! Just brain farts best of luck !!
@DontbeWily Жыл бұрын
I could not get it to engage. I am thinking it had to have some hydraulic pressure to run. I couldn’t get the blade to move. Hydraulics probably have lost its prime
