My dad used to drive one Mitsubishi Fuso The Great. It has 8DC9-3AT2 (Twin-Turbocharger Intercooler) with 440 PS of power. He hauled heavy steels with throughout Java, Indonesia. He and me love V8s 😁

Always surprises me how long Japanese trucks stuck with big-capacity, non-turbo engines; particularly since Japan is kinda hilly… I guess the lower heat output meant a smaller heat-exchanger and hence a lower cab. Even the ‘90s British-market Hino FY275 8x4 tipper chassis had a 15.8-litre straight-six nat-asp at 270bhp while the competition offered 9-10 litre turbo sixes at 290ish bhp. I hope someone is saving the best of these quirky and respectable beasts 🙂

That kind of trucks are really sought after here in the Philippines because we Filipinos really prefer manual injection pump engines because they are really easy to work on and the reliability of it because we really use trucks a lot here. We get surplus trucks from Japan with over a million kilometers and then convert it to LHD. As long as it is well maintained, those surplus trucks that we got from Japan can run another million kilometer and even more.
@jantzangeloarenas3524
@jantzangeloarenas3524 Жыл бұрын
And also to add, we love these kinds of engines because of the power it gives. Not gonna lie, we tend to overload here that's why we need the power.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder Жыл бұрын
Hi mate great comments. Yes I’d rather these mechanical engines as well. More realisable and can be repaired on the road. Any Japanese stuff is good reliable equipment. I have no doubt that you will get that many kms out of them. They are fairly steady but strong and reliable.

Japanese trucks of this size are completely unknown in Europe! The heaviest Japanese model available in Europe is the Fuso Canter with a maximum permissible gross weight of 8.5 tons! But most trucks from Japan do not have a maximum permissible gross weight over 3.5 tons!
