Great video Steve, on a magic old banger,looks like 104 inch bbc,Wrights at Mt Isa had 5 of em as tray truck spec,22 foot, i think from memory a very narrow sleeper box🤔318-n65 which i think were actually 304 running accessories, n60-290, n55- 270, not sure why Inter used centre outlet manifolds there is a school of thought that it does'nt help with the breathing, stay safe cobber 👍

Hi mate thank you. It’s a fairly rare truck here now I think. I do know of a few but not seen much at shows. I think it’s 290 this one. It’s so quiet compared to the Kenworth. I have 2 transtars with v8 Detroit engines and both very quiet. Hopefully one day I get the time to get her on the road again

Super awesome truck. Love those old IH and especially with a Jimmy. Those naturally aspirated 8v71 are rated at 304 hp @2,100 rpm and, more importantly, 800 @ 1,600rpm. Thanks for sharing and keep up the cool videos, matey.

Hi mate yes I realise when I watched it last night before posting it. I was just saying to my partner before I read your comment that I need my remote microphone that I have. I bought it and haven’t yet set it up. It goes on my shirt so that will help. It was hard work loading it. It put us behind the rest of the trucks on the road but still enjoyed it

For a truck made in 1969 that's in alright condition really, that's a long time ago and would have done some hard miles in its day. Your correct on the injectors Steve, for some reason the engineers at IH put N60s in the 8Vs I guess they thought they'd be better on fuel it's true because @ the 290 hp rating they were getting 6.2 mpg as a semi. Thanks for the upload.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder Жыл бұрын
It is in great condition for that age mate. I wish it could talk. Yeah mate I know just by going off the sound of them compared to my other 8v71 trucks that these are derated in power. I think they would use more fuel with the engine working harder to do the same job as one rated at 318 but maybe not. But it’s fine for what I will do with it. Hopefully I can get it to an on road condition
@andrewking4885
@andrewking4885 Жыл бұрын
@@stevesplacedownunder Your correct in that the de-rated 8Vs were a bit noticeable in slightly less power than the standard 8V. My brother said that. He had an Autocar with a 290 hp and pulled a quad float with it and a 35 ton CAT excavator and it went alright. Sounded like a Symphony going up the Gunalda range near Gympie QLD. The trick with those natural 71s is when your going along flat cruising and then hit hilly country as soon as you hear the engine lose it's note or one ounce of speed downshift real quick and hammer down . Detroits don't have a 50% torque rise like a Mack as you well know. You would also know that those exhaust manifolds have the outlet in the centre like the 8Vs in the White Road Commanders which gives it a different sound compared to the normal ones .

Hi mate, I really don't want this to sound like a downer and criticism but at the start of the video I can't hear much of what you're saying to camera. Hi mate it’s no problem. I actually only realised before posting that it was quiet. I only just got out of bed about 20 minutes before 🙄. I have a microphone that clips to my shirt but haven’t yet set it up. I never even gave a voiceover a thought before posting as I’ve never done that. I’m certainly not taking it as criticism mate, your one of the great ones that follow and I like the feed back. Another bloke has pointed it out also which is another long term follower. Leave it with me mate. I’m still new to it all. I’m recording others today as I’m off for Easter so I will try working out the Bluetooth microphone. Don’t ever feel bad for offering feedback mate. I want it to succeed also. It’s when random people abuse me that don’t follow is when I don’t listen. Thanks as Always Norm
